Scharl was a game programmer in his past life. But after his early death, he was unfortunate enough to be reincarnated as a little worm while his memories from his previous life were intact. But he soon discovered that the world he was in was an extraordinary one; and he wasn't an ordinary worm either. Thus, powered by his great curiosity and desire for survival, the story of a man reborn as a little worm began.

Chapter 1: I'm A Worm?
There has never been a dead person who returned to tell the tale of the afterlife. That's why some people say "death is the final adventure." You can't return, but there's surely something out there. *** "Where am I?" someone asked one's self. But there was no sound, only undisturbed silence, and complete darkness. It was only someone's thought. "Is this the afterlife? Why is it so dark? This place can't be 'heaven,' did I perhaps fall into 'hell?' Hmm..." "But I, Scharl, certainly wasn't a sinful person when I was alive, so how could I fall into hell? Besides, they say hell in a realm of endless fire and devil, but there's none of those here, so this must not be hell either." The person, "Scharl," seemed to have convinced himself. But it was indeed true that he was not a sinful person before he died. Scharl was almost a loner when he was alive: He had only made two friends in his youth and liked spending time alone during his free time. But it didn't mean he was indifferent or apathetic towards the rest of the people around him. He always tried to be as friendly as possible and avoided offending people. That said, he had always avoided conflicts since he experienced physical bullying during his elementary school days... "It seems I'm back at my first question again." Scharl sighed helplessly in his thoughts. "Is there anyone out there who can answer me? No?" Again, everything was just his thought so no one could hear him. Time passed quickly without him realizing. "Is this some kind of a total isolation experiment before I get admitted somewhere?" After an indefinite period, Scharl suddenly started to feel something. The feeling was familiar yet also unfamiliar, and the sensation eventually became clearer until he finally found something completely shocking. This moment was the time Scharl acquired a new sense of touch, or a sense of body, to be more precise. And it was also at this moment he realized the answer to his questions. Scharl was greatly surprised. He was rendered speechless, or not, but frozen in thought. He was alive. But the most unbelievable and shocking fact was that his body didn't feel like a human at all, but a creature that's most likely a worm. The thought of himself being reborn as a worm was too horrifying. Scharl was too sure that he had already died. In fact, he could still remember that he was carried into an ambulance after a car accident that severely injured him. It was very unfortunate that the ambulance didn't make it to the hospital before he died from loss of blood. He died at age of 24. A dead person can't possibly have a dream, so the only thing that can explain his current situation was reincarnation: He had gone through rebirth. It wasn't hard to accept that he had gone through rebirth. What was hard to accept was being reborn as a tiny worm. Such a terrible fate! *** "Being a worm is really terrible. I can't do anything else but feel my skin and struggle..." After some time... "Okay, it seems that these tiny hair-like things I feel on my skin are helpful. I could squirm way better now." Scharl was not fond of studying little creatures like worms when he was still human. Hence, he didn't know those tiny hair-like structures were his "setae," used to anchor his body segments so he can move through soil easier. Thankfully, there seems to be knowledge that originates from his genes that allows him to control his body instinctively. "Still, I can't see anything. Sadly, worms probably don't have eyes. Ugh, this life would certainly be a drag if I can't see anything." Suddenly, a mysterious, artificial female voice sounded, or at least Scharl thought so. He has been in this dark emptiness for a long time, yet it was his first time hearing such a voice. But in reality, it was more like a telepathic message that went directly into his mind. The voice said some words from a certain foreign language, but Scharl was strangely able to understand it. Perhaps it was the so-called "God Tongue," a language that can be understood by every creature in the universe. "Detect 'Complete Spiritual Lifeform', grant 'Spiritual Lifeform Status Rune'." "Initialize 'Status Rune', link 'Eye of Truth', access 'YdRéWwTæhii4WvjfFoügsA...srGlgf6xxL'." Even though Scharl didn't get the true meaning of the mysterious telepathic message, he was still instantly astounded by the words he understood. "Am I in some sort of a game world? Or perhaps a sci-fi movie? Surely, even if I'm reborn as a worm on planet Kepler-22b, something like this can't be happening, right?" Scharl couldn't help asking doubtfully. After all, what he just experienced at this moment was something he thought can only happen in the web novels he had often read when he was in high school and college. Briefly after, a strange screen of countless symbols suddenly manifested amid the dark emptiness, catching Scharl's full attention. But in reality, it appeared directly in his thoughts, as if some sort of telepathy was used on him. [Superclass: 'Spiritual Lifeform', Class: 'Animal', Subclass: 'Intelligent Animal', ..., Soul: 'Normal Human', Soul State: 'Deformed Soul', ..., Creature: 'Mystical Worm', Sub-type: 'Devourer Worm', Stage: 'Hatchling' ..., Self-Identifier: 'Scharl Rogers, ...', ..., Spiritual Power: '10±', Mana: '10±', ..., Innate Physical Abilities: 'Thermal Vision (undeveloped), Spatial Sound Perception (undeveloped)', ...', ..., Innate Magic Abilities: 'Devour (incomplete), Purification, ...', ..., ..., State: 'weak, hungry, thirsty', ... Emotion: 'astonished, excited...', ...] The information was conveyed in the form of foreign symbols, yet for some unknown and strange reasons, Scharl was able to understand them. Scharl never would have thought that the information about a single hatchling worm such as himself would be very long. It took an unknown period before he finished reading the symbols. "Haha, it seems I'm in a completely different world now," Scharl sighed inwardly. "Hmm... But at least, it's not so boring now that this wonderful thing came up. I never thought I'd ever experience this, it's really as if I'm living inside a game." After some time, Scharl eventually learned to eat as a worm through his instincts again. Thankfully, the soil tasted delicious now that he is a worm, and some places underground actually smell so pleasant. After that, Scharl only did three things as a hatchling-stage worm: eating nutrients from the soil, wriggling through the soil to explore, or sleeping when he is tired. A simple lifeform indeed offers simple life...
