She dragged herself awake. All night she tossed and turned, haunted by Kieran’s face and the darkness surrounding him. Her tears had dried, but her whole body ached, and her head was pounding. She slowly got from bed and walked to the window. She had to admit that it was a beautiful view. The house was surrounded by forest. To just reach out and touch the trees. After a few minutes of looking out, she attempted to open the window. But it was locked or nailed down or magicked shut. She hated the feeling of being trapped.
