CHAPTER NINETEEN
MISSY POV
Well it's been an eventful day, what started thinking it was the first day I had had no drama from a mate bond I have no memory of, when suddenly Carmine, wait it's not Carmine, well maybe it is, I don’t know, it does but doesn’t look like him, whoever it is said his few snide remarks then left, that was a relief. I didn’t understand why Carmine had been like this.
Before I knew it, he was coming back downstairs, roaring and stalking toward me, the pressure around my jaw and neck almost cutting my air supply off. My hands grabbing at his hands, trying to get him to put me down on the ground.
I can’t speak, his eyes glaring into my own, I am muted by their beauty as well as their terrified of their blazing, I know he is not happy, but all I can do is stare.
Then ummm, another Carmine walked, well more like ran in, his face draining of colour as he takes in the scene before him.
“GABRIEL! LET HER GO! PUT HER DOWN NOW!” he’s yelling at his brother, twin brother no less, trying to get him to let me down. I don’t want them fighting over me, I am nothing to them.
“GABE! Gabe you need to calm down, I need to check on her, do you want to go to your bedroom or your office or your room and I will come see you soon. Suddenly his breathing picks up again, but this time I have his attention on me, I watch his jaw continue ticking.
Through his gritted teeth he begins. “That’s what started this! There is freeking lock on my bedroom door!” he is still huffing, still angry, but agreed to let me go and put me down, Carmine watched him leave before attending to me, which I was grateful for.
Carmine checked on me giving me a clear bill of health, with the red marks disappearing fast, and told me that we would be having lunch with Gabriel, I smiled at him, even though I wasn't so sure, I nodded when he suggested I could shower and change before lunch.
I heard him walk down to the offices, and disappear into a room, I couldn’t help it, I ran upstairs as fast as I possibly could, darting into my room locking it swiftly behind me.
I went straight into the bathroom, showering and changing into a sundress with blue tones, along with a nice pair of flat sandals. Pulling my hair into a loose tie I made my way back downstairs.
Taking the last step, well about to place my foot down on the floor from the last step, I am grabbed, spun and shoved into the wall with an ooommph!
Gabriel grabbed me again, or should I say ambushed me as I came to the last step, I didn’t even have time to breath, I screamed then bit my lip to shut myself up. He was glaring into my face again, he was growling, and making noises from deep in his throat.
It almost sounds like he is saying ‘mine’ amongst all the noises, I am sure I heard it twice at least. I didn’t have the nerve to say anything, still fearful that he might want to hurt me, even though he has been really quite gentle aside from the collisions with the wall.
While I think my thoughts are funny, I dare not speak them aloud right now, I don’t think he is going to find my antics funny right now.
It was then that Carmine had come running in the front door of the Palace “Grunt! Leave her!” he said sternly.
Grunt then turned a little more to look at Carmine, his demeanour settling and a small grin making its way to his face, as he released me. He extends his hand to me I took it gingerly.
Making our way to the dining room and sitting down ready for the staff to bring our meals. Gabe hardly took his eyes off of me. He asked questions, of which of course I really didn't have very many answers for him but he did make me giggle at his repeated attempts, in turn he was smiling and he even managed to chuckle too.
We finished our meal and our conversations continued with Gabe relaxing enough he managed to tear himself away to return to his room to get something he wanted to show me, running from the room excitedly.
“He ran off like a young pup, he is so excited to show you something. I'm so sorry Missy I only went to the Guesthouse to get my things. I thought he was in his room.” Carmine said.
I smiled wide and laughed and said “it's okay , he just startled me, his eyes were different, so was his voice, I wondered what was wrong with you, he grabbed my arm and pulled me toward him, he did make some odd noises, but he didn’t hurt me. I'm sorry I screamed.” Feeling a pink tinge grace my face, I looked down.
Carmine laughed at me, full on laughed, causing me to blush further, not only my cheek, but now my ears, chest and throat, I am seriously embarrassed, even though I am horrified too.
“I would have told you about him, honestly, he didn’t tell me that he was coming home, he was supposed to be here next week, which is when he was supposed to finish his mission, but they got through it all early.” Carmine said.
“It's okay, I don’t think he is going to hurt me now, he seems calmer. Why did he say I was your next stray, or responsibility?” I asked, his eyes looked away from me.
“Well, I am the one who will bring an injured animal back to help it heal, or I will help someone in trouble, even someone abandoned, which has happened but not in a number of years.” His answer was so honest, I understood how Gabriel had thought that, but really all Carmine was doing was what he felt was ethically right.
“I see, so you like to help, he likes to leave.” I laughed as I said it, it didn’t take long before he too joined in, just as Gabriel came back into the dining room.
Looking at us quizzically, Gabe decided it was worth asking in that moment, “So what did I do that is so funny?” he didn’t realise how much his comment was spot on, even though it was about both of us.
I decided to give him a quick rundown, and to my surprise he began to laugh too, and the sound of both of them laughing was soothing my soul, my lost soul.
