CHAPTER NINE

WILLOW POV

Following our meal, I felt strong enough to ask if the doctor knew what was causing the extra pain, Carmine's face paled.

“I have asked the doctor to come down so we can try and work that out, I know she wants to ask some questions to see if you remember things, but I am not sure what, she just said that she would see you when you woke up.” Carmine said.

Once we were settled just chatting and watching some stupid television program, around and hour after we got back, she came into the room.

Carmine said that Doctor Daphne hadn't been home to her mate and small pup since I arrived, I instantly worried now feeling bad for keeping her. Suggesting we could wait until the morning, but he just hushed me shaking his head.

The doctor pulled a chair across to sit the opposite side of the bed to Carmine then she began “Miss, how are you feeling now?” her question routine I figured.

“I am feeling much better thank you. Do you know what caused my pain last night, or was it this morning?” I would prefer if she just got to the point, but she has also been so good to me, giving up her time with her family.

“Just before we explore any of the possibilities, can I ask, have you had any memories return with your improved health?” she asked, her tone gentle but ginger at the same time.

Not sure what she is really getting at but still trying to help her help me, I looked up at her “No not really, when I think about it, I just get bright flashes in my mind, I asked my wolf but there is something wrong with her, she isn’t talking to me.” I finished, I felt the hot tears spiking in my eyes, feeling lost and helpless.

“Ohhh, my dear, it’s okay” she started as she moved closer and patted my leg before taking my hand. “I just need to check everything, your symptoms are found in a few ailments, but I like to be thorough and check everything.” Her smile reassured me.

“So, what does that leave us with if I have no memories?” I asked, just managing hold back not only the hot tears but also the lump in my throat, that wanted to escape as a sob.

“Okay, when you first came in, I needed to assess your injuries, I didn’t notice a mark on your torso or your neck, so I am guessing you don’t have a mate, or if you do you haven’t completed the first stage, the acceptance, some alpha wolves will use stages with their mates, as it can just be overwhelming to even just be accepted, some she-wolves have not woken for days because their Alpha didn’t consider his power.” She explained, then paused and looked between both Carmine and I, before she proceeded.

“If you had remembered anything about a mate, we could be certain. I apologise, as this will mean that it could happen again. It could happen and we identify an illness or ailment that would explain your symptoms also. I am researching, and I still have blood to test also." Doctor Daphne explained.

"I would hate to see you in pain, but I also don’t want to give you some medication that may cause you more problems." With her words I nodded understanding her concerns, and thankful she didn’t want to over do it with the medication.

“So you are saying that if I had a mate and haven’t completed to correct stages it could cause these types of pain?” I asked with a little concern.

“Yes Miss, it is one of a few possibilities, but without your memories, I would literally be guessing, I thought I would start with the most known, and somewhat most common issues.” Doctor Daphne said.

“Okay, well I guess that leaves us to wait yeah?” I asked knowing my answer, resigning myself to the fact I was going to have to wait, but also I was going to be stuck in the hospital. Although it’s not like I can get too upset, it's not like I have anywhere else to go and stay.

I sort of zoned out a little, trying really hard to draw on any memory, just a slither would be nice.

Before I know it, Carmine is tapping the back of my hand, he must have been calling my name for a little, the tap on my hand was quite firm, ensuring he truly did get my attention.

“So, there you are,” Carmine said as he smiled up at me, I felt a blush run across my cheeks, I believe I covered well, with my response, “Ah, yeah, um, sorry, did you say something?” feeling rather sheepish.

He chuckled a little before he continued, “Ha, ha, I was just saying, that I think if it is okay with you we could call you Missy perhaps until your memories or someone steps forward knowing you.” His handsome face looking at me questioningly.

I nodded, with a chuckle of my own, I hadn’t thought much about the fact that they had all been calling me Miss or just tapping my hand and smiling when they began their conversations.

“Oh! Wow, I hadn’t even given a thought to that, but I guess Missy is as good as anything I might think of, so yep lets go with that.” I smiled wide when Doctor Daphne and Carmine were both looking at me , their eyes full of mirth.

“Good! Well Missy, I would like very much if you would stay with me until we work out who you are, or where your from, surely someone will be missing such a strong she-wolf!” Carmine offered, not sure how to answer, even though I didn’t quite expect an answer was required.

Then before I could say anything, Doctor Daphne passed me a small case with clothes, my size, I looked at her surprised, “Thank you, but w...wh...” before I could get words out, Daphne continued the conversation “Carmine asked me to pick some clothes up for you the day after you arrived, so I have had them in my office waiting to give you. I wanted to get you up and about a little, but it seems our Alpha here managed that earlier with his meal offer.” She cheekily winked at me then looked at Carmine who was now the one scorting a blush.

“Oh, well thank you Carmine, I appreciate the gesture, I promise if my memory comes back you are first to know, and if someone wants to say they know me I will have them repay your generosity.” I said earnestly.

Carmine waved his hand dismissively, before I could protest again, Daphne squeezed my hand, I figured for now I would hold off and I will address it again later.
