Chapter 1
Rosalia's mind was in a complete fog as she tried to finish writing her novel, she had several ideas on how she wanted to end it. But, no matter how many times that she typed her ideas down on her laptop, none of it made any sense to her and to be honest, it was starting to drive the poor girl insane. She leaned back in the chair that she sat in at the local coffee shop, and rubbed her manicured hands down her face and sighed aloud in annoyance. Rosalia hated when she got to the last chapter of her books, no matter how well she had written the entire first part of her story, the final chapter always came out boring as hell and never did make much sense to her at all. Out of ideas and feeling as if she needed a break from working on her book, Rosalia stood up from her chair, grabbed her wallet and phone, walked up to the cash register to order something to drink. After waiting for a few minutes, a black haired teenage boy came over to the cash register that Rosalia was waiting patiently at and asked with no expression on his face. "Welcome to Dot's. What can I get for you today?" Rosalia looked up at the menu that was on the wall above the teenage boy's head and studied it for a couple of minutes as she tried to figure out what she wanted to drink. They all sounded delicious to her, but she just couldn't decide on what to order. But, seeing as there were a few customers that were standing in line behind her, Rosalia decided that she would just order her old standby and looked to the cashier and said. "I'll take a large caramel frappe." The teenage boy nodded his head upon hearing Rosalia's order and punched it into the cash register and then looked back up to her with a small smile on his face and replied. "Alright, your order is $3.95." Hearing what he said, Rosalia unzipped her wallet and quickly pulled out a five dollar bill and passed it over to him. With the money in hand, the teenage boy pressed a button on the cash register and then counted out the correct change and then passed it back to Rosalia, along with the receipt. With the receipt in hand, Rosalia moved down to the other end of the counter and pulled her phone out of pants pocket, and started playing a game on her phone as she waited on her drink order to arrive. However, a few minutes into her game, she felt her phone vibrate and watched as her the image of her father's picture popped up on the screen. Rosalia groaned in annoyance at the sight of her father's picture, she really didn't want to talk to him, but knew that if she didn't answer his call then he would keep calling her until she finally did. Taking in a deep breath, Rosalia pressed the answer button and brought her phone up to her ear and asked in a calm voice. "What do you want, dad?" Angelo grunted over the other end of the phone when he heard the hint of annoyance in his daughter's voice when she answered his call. Feeling slightly annoyed that his daughter didn't answer the call to his liking, he said in a stern voice. "Is that any way for you to answer my call?" Rosalia sighed, and then apologized and said as she took her drink from one of the store employees and walked over to her table and sat down. "I'm sorry for answering the phone like that dad. But still, what do you want? You normally don't ever call me unless it is something important that has happened within the family or if there is something that you need from me. Now, what is it?" Angelo stayed quiet on the other end of the phone for several minutes and then finally spoke up and said. "Listen, you remember Stefano's oldest son, Alessio. Right?" "Yeah, I remember him. He's that moron that put a frog down my dress when we were ten. I about killed that bastard that day. But, why are you asking me if I remember Alessio, dad?" Rosalia asked worriedly as she sat back in her chair and took a sip of her cold, sweet drink. "Well, you see dear. A couple of years back I played a game of poker with Stefano and made a bet with him that if I lost the game that I would have you marry Alessio." Angelo confessed nervously. As soon as the word, 'marry' registered in Rosalia's head, she jumped out of her chair and yelled out angrily. "YOU DID WHAT?!" "I'm sorry, Rosalia. I had no choice, Stefano had been hassling me all night about getting you to marry his son. He even gave me some sob story about how Alessio has been in love with you ever since you two were children. So, when we started playing and it had come time for me to make a bet, I realized that I had left my wallet at home. And me being drunk at the time, made a bet with Stefano that if I lost the game that I would have you to marry Alessio. So, I ended up losing and now you have to marry his son." Angelo mumbled nervously. Rosalia stayed quiet on her end of the line as she watched as other customers and employees that were in the shop stared at her, wondering why she had screamed. Not wanting to cause another scene, Rosalia grabbed her things and walked outside and got into her car to continue her conversation with her dad and said. "Dad, this is one of the dumbest things that you have ever done while drunk. How long do I have until this little marriage issue comes into play?" "Exactly, three days. Why? Dear, you're not going to do something stupid, are you? If you are, then please don't. This marriage between our two families will finally make us one of the most powerful crime families here in New York." "Dad, I'm not marrying him," Rosalia said sternly. "Oh, come on. Please!" Her father begged. "No. I'm not doing it. If you're that damn interested in uniting the Abano and the Colombo crime families, then why don't you have Valentina to marry him. Hell, she's been in love with him ever since she was little." Rosalia said, aggravated by the with the whole conversation. "That sounds like a nice idea and all, and I'm pretty sure that if I did get it changed where your sister was the one that was marrying Alessio it would have her over the moon with happiness. But the thing is though, is that there is no way in hell that I can get Stefano to change his mind. I mean you know just as good and well as I do that whatever Alessio wants his father is going to make sure that he gets it." Rosalia sighed and rubbed two of her fingers against her temple, trying to relieve the headache that she was starting to get. Wanting to end this conversation with her father as soon as possible, Rosalia said in a stern and a matter of fact tone. "Dad, I have some things that I need to do before my vacation to Zahara in the morning. But, this little matter involving Alessio, you need to fix it. Do you understand me?" "Yeah, I understand you. I'll talk to Stefano and see if I can change his mind. But, can you please do me a favor and just think about marrying Alessio, just in case I can't fix this?" "Alright, dad. I'll think about it. But only think nothing more. I have to go I'll see you in two weeks, alright. Bye, dad." Rosalia said and ended the call and then threw her phone onto the passenger's seat and then placed her hands on the steering wheel and began banging them on it while screaming. 'GODDAMNIT!!' She couldn't believe that her dad would do something so stupid. She knew that he was gullible and was easy to talk into doing things, especially when drunk. But, this was pushing it. After banging her hands against the steering wheel for several seconds in anger, she leaned back against the car seat and sighed, tired by the whole situation in general. 'Well,' she thought to herself. 'At least tomorrow, I will be in Zahara and away from this nonsense for a while.' Calmed down for the moment, Rosalia started her car and drove off to prepare to for her trip. Where she hoped to find some fun and relaxation.
