The Decision

1105 Words
I starred at the blood stained  dollar bills , if not mistaken  there should be about five hundred  thousand if not more ,. what the hell have  I  gotten myself  into .  Pushing the bag away I walked back to the bed and checked the child , he was cooing  and that meant he must be hungry " heavens knows when last he had eaten"  opening the drawers where  i stored my new face towels  i took out one and prepared a bath for him . After i had given him a bath , i wrapped him up and took his bloodied  blankets  to the laundry  . He coed and looked at me, he must be wandering who i am ...if I am  his mother ....to bad child .  I wrapped  the infant with my cardigan  and used one of the towels as a nappy for him. Situations like  this  are  the  the reason am glad i was a medical  student  . I mean what would've  happened  to  him if I hadn't  tripped over him  ...but thank goodness I did . I was famished and am sure the child was also , but as usual  nana's  fridge was empty , she never  had any food in them for reasons  best known to her . There wasn't even a bag of chips in the refrigerator  ... I  sighed thinking about what i could give to a baby , before settling  for warm water with glucose , I spoon fed him with a tea cup and spoon he finished  every  thing and fell asleep  .  After he was asleep  i watched the bag full of money ...before moving everything  out of the the bag , i placed them in one my  purse and  hid in safely  under my bed.   I laid on my bed pondering on either to tell the cops or not ...but if I  did tell the cops that  would mean them opening up a case and my life been interrupted  and  placed on television... then my grandmother  would be exposed  for not having a green card . She had stayed in Mexico all her life and  had moved to the states  when my  mum got married  to a gringo.  I smiled as I remember  what my noona used to call my dad , by marriage  my mum became  a citizen  but my grandmother wasn't  a registered  citizen  . Her visa expired when I  was seven and noona had tried to be documented but she had broken a traffic  rule once again and she was denied a permanent  residence  .  I starred at the baby who was sleeping  close to me  and sighed , in just one night Reina you had become  a mom .... Maybe i should tell the cops seeing i still had to make a birth certificate  for him if i wanted to give his vaccine  ..   I could tell the cops i picked up by the dumpster  after all the club opposite  the restaurant  didn't  have CCTV  cameras so they would believe  me.  but first I needed to get some sleep ...and pray that the baby didn't  wake up ...because  if it did i wouldn't  have any formula  or breastmilk  to  feed him.  The Next day.... I woke up early at six because  ...the infant wouldn't stop crying ...so i repeated  the same routine i did yesterday  and wrapped  him with on my cardigan since the previous one had gotten wet, and covered him in a blanket  that i had cut out of my blanket  .  I entered  the police  station  and its rowdines was disturbing  the baby... i was attended  by a female and male officer who had asked me some questions like  " so where had you found the baby ...' " what tiime did you see the baby ...and who was with you "  Officer Cohen had proceeded to  ask me if i had given birth recently  and when i had replied  a  no. He had said to do some test  on me and after that test  ...they had taken a DNA sample from me just to be sure  i wasn't  by any chance  looking for where to dump my baby . The test had been taken about four hours and when it had come negative  ...the female officer  to which  name was Page had told me  why they did some routine inquiries  just to be sure .  I was beginning  to get hungry seeing that I  hadn't  eaten  anything  since this morning  ...I was told they would've  to check his prints to see if he wss registered but after that it came out the same and the baby wasn't  registered  yet as a new born .  I was later driven to a hospital with cops car and the baby was registered  but its name section was empty  and then the cops said since there wasn't  a case of a stolen baby and from the test Report  the baby was just three days old.   They informed  me that since  the routine  investigations were going on i was a now a legal guardian to the child till his parents are found and if they are not found  with in a month or two either his sent to foster care or I become  his permanent guardian.   I opted to look after the child as a permanent  parent  if his biological parents weren't  found , i was told to name the child and so I named him after my late baby brother David Ortiz  . The cops did some  procedures  before i was then allowed to go with him . The nurse told me they had fed and dressed  after seeing his previous  clothing  wasn't  an option, I was handed his new birth certificate  before leaving the hospital  .  David was asleep and I  was happy every thing went well with the police , in just twenty four hours  i had become  a new parent to new born baby .  If i was gonna be taking care of him that meant I  had to get a baby cot and formula  . In a rush I went back home  and took out some cash in noona's safe ..Taking a large sum of ten thousand since i didn't  know how much it was gonna be so I  called my cousin Sofia. Sofia was my dad's  sister's daughter  and she was married with a little girl ...I decided to order an uber  since I  couldn't  drive with David ..I needed  to be responsible  if i wanted to raise David. After the driver i had dropped me off i paid him and went inside ...it was three that meant Gensis would still be at school  and that  would give enough  time  to speak to Sofia about this.
