The Lost Girl

Chapter Two - The Invitation and Tragedy

The next morning, a member of the packhouse arrived to deliver a letter in wolf form. Jake had to make sure Esmeralda was not downstairs before opening the door. She has no idea that werewolves exist and their parents don’t want her seeing one because she might get scared. Both Jake and Mary thanked the wolf and he left back to the packhouse. The Knight Family only lives five miles away from the packhouse.

While opening the letter, the Knight discovered an invitation to their Alpha Gary son's, Ash, 5th birthday party. Alpha Gary is throwing a pool party and they have invited the whole Silverstone Pack to attend. The Knight was undecided to go but Esmeralda was in the living room when she heard her parents talk about the birthday party.

"I want to go to a birthday party. Can we go? Please, daddy. Pretty please," Esmeralda pleaded with her puppy adorable looking eyes and her parents finally decided it was time to introduce their daughter to the packhouse? Once Jake has said yes to Esmeralda, she hugged both her parents and ran to her room after hearing the great news. Esmeralda was very excited to meet new people and making some friends.

Then Mary began to hesitate, "Oh, I don't know if we should go. No one knows about Esme." 

While staring at each other, Jake then spoke, "Mary, sooner or later, they will eventually find out about our special little daughter. They must know and present her to the pack. It is time."

With a worried look, Mary responded finally realizing it was time for Esmeralda to be known, "Ok baby, I agree. It is time. But we have to watch her at all times. She has never been alone." Jake reassured her that everything is going to be ok by giving her a big kiss on her forehead and then hugged her hard. 

"I love you, Mary. Everything will be ok," Jake say to her while calming her down. 

Mary responded, "I love you too, Jake."

While Jake and Mary were having a small conversation, Esmeralda was up in her room declaring her happiness by yelling, "Party, party, party." Then Mary comes into her bedroom and watches how happy Esmeralda is. 

Esmeralda sees her mother and asked her, "What should I wear, mommy? Ahhh, I am so excited to finally meet new people and make hundreds, no thousands of friends. Ahhh, I am so HAPPY!" Mary giggled and was happy to see how happy Esmeralda was. Mary made her way to her closet to look for a swimsuit and outfit for the party. The party starts at noon, today and Esmeralda was too excited about the day. 

"Calm down, now. Let's get you ready. Since it's a pool party, let's find you a cute swimsuit to wear. Ah, here. Try this on and put this sundress on with your matching ballets. Now go. Hurry along, Esme," said Mary. As Mary had said this, Esmeralda rushes to the bathroom with her clothes that mom gave her and got herself ready. Once done, she rushes back out to show mommy her outfit. 

"You look very beautiful, Esme. Now, wait in the living room while dad and I get ready," said Mary. Esmeralda quickly ran downstairs and waited for her parents to get ready. After ten minutes, both Mary and Jake got themselves ready and headed out with Esmeralda in their SUV to the birthday party. They hit the road heading towards the pack house which was five miles away from where they lived. One mile on the road, a giant wolf appeared in front of the Knights SUV causing Jake to lose control of the steering wheel and hit a tree nearby. Along came two other werewolves and all three were gathered around the car, growling. Esmeralda was conscious and had no idea of what's going on. She was scared and crying to her parents to wake up. 

"Wake up, Mommy. Wake up, daddy. There are giant dogs growling outside the car. They look so terrifying," said Esmeralda. As Esmeralda was pleading for help for a good five minutes, Mary finally wakes up. 

"Hmmmmm, baby, sweetheart? Oh my goodness. There are Rogues around the car!!! Jake, JAKE. Wake up, darling. Esme? Esme, are you OK," asked Mary? Esmeralda does not know what a Rogue is; she figured those wild-looking beasts are called Rogues, then she spoke to her mother. 

"I'm awake, mommy. Dogs are scary," said Esmeralda.  

Mary then says, "Hang on tight. Mommy and Daddy will protect you." Then Jake finally wakes up. 

"Hunny, I'm ok. We have to protect Esme. We got to alert the Silverstone Pack about Rogues trespassing the premises. There could be more heading this way," said Jake.

Mary looking concerned she responded to Jake, "I've just mind linked Alpha Gary. He will be here as fast as he can along with other warriors." Jake then remembered about a promise he made to the Moon Goddess, Selene and advised Mary to do the same. 

"Mary, take Esme. Run as fast as you can. I'll fight them off," said Jake.

Mary nodded her head in agreement and said, "Ok, sweetheart. I love you."

Esmeralda looked at her dad very scared and said, "Daddy, mommy, I'm scared. Those giant ugly dogs look like they haven’t eaten for days. Are they going to eat us?"

Jake responded to Esmeralda with a worried and sad look, "It’s going to be alright, Esme. Whatever happens, remember, I will always love you, my Princess." Knowing that this could be the last time he will ever get to see Esmeralda, he knew his time was up. 

Esmeralda responded, "I love you too, daddy," with tears coming down from her eyes. 

"Mary, hurry. Take Esme as far as you can. Don't look back and I love you, sweetheart. Until we meet again," said Jake fighting back the tears that wants to come out of his eyes.

Mary started to cry but put a brave face and responded, "I love you too, Jake."

Jake yelled out, "Now, go! Don't look back." Mary quickly put her act together and grabbed Esmeralda hands to lead her out of the SUV. Esmeralda crying out to her dad, afraid that she might not see him again. While Jake climbs out of the SUV waiting for Mary and Esmeralda to climb out, he waited to shift into his wolf form. Mary and Esmeralda finally climbed out and sprint off into the woods, making their way out of danger. Jake stayed behind fighting with all his strength, finally in werewolf form to give time for Mary and Esmeralda to escape. Jake didn't want Esmeralda to watch since she had no idea her parents were werewolves.
