Chapter Five - Lost, Scared and Meeting her Wolf

When Esmeralda was running for her life, trying to escape these ugly wild-looking beasts, Esmeralda had no idea her body changed after all that pain she has experienced a while back. Esmeralda looked at her hands when she had stopped at the cliff. She was shocked to see that her hands were no longer her normal human hands. There was white fur with claws.

"Am I a wolf just like my mom," asked Esmeralda Knight? 

Before Esmeralda continued to explore her body, she heard the Rogues behind her getting closer. Then that’s when she has jumped off the cliff after hesitating whether she wanted to be captured or die from a fall.

But unexpectedly, she has survived the fall. After almost drowning, Esmeralda was able to escape the river flowing down at a very fast speed. She was scared but luckily she has caught a tree branch that was dangling down for her to reach. Esmeralda used that branch to help herself up to the tree. Up she goes and makes her way out of this cold river. 

"Remind me not to go back to this river, it is so freakn’ cold, " said Esmeralda Knight to herself. Esmeralda received a few cuts and scratches for getting herself out of the river but the good thing is that she is still alive.

Then Esmeralda looked around her surroundings; "I am lost, cold and afraid. What if those Rogues catch up to me," she asked herself? Esmeralda walked into the forest and stopped in an open area. She saw a tree trunk lying on the floor and she made her way to it and sat down on it, crying in fear. 

"My mom and dad are dead because of me. Why did they have to leave me alone on this Earth? I have nobody else to call family," she said to herself. Esmeralda sat there crying her heart out. She didn’t know what to do next. All of a sudden she heard the most amazing voice nearby.

"My child, you are free of danger. Do not fear anymore, my little one. I am here to protect you," said a voice inside her head. Esmeralda stopped crying and looked behind her and looked around but there was no one there. She must have gone insane because the voice was loud and clear. 

"Who’s there," she asked the voice that spoke to her earlier? Esmeralda was scared to know that she was indeed insane. 

"It is your wolf, Star. I am talking in your head," said her wolf, Star who turns out to be the voice in Esmeralda's head. 

Esmeralda quickly interrupted Star before she continued talking and said, "you’re my wolf? How? I don't know how a wolf looks like." 

A giggle was heard before Esmeralda's wolf spoke again, "my child, I was born too soon but we will go through this together. I'm here to protect you now. Look at yourself in the River, and then you will know how a wolf looks like but a little version though. You are just a small wolf."

Esmeralda did what Star asked her to do by walking back towards the river. Once she got there, there was a steady spot where the water was not moving fast, Esmeralda made her way to that area. Then the most shocking thing she has discovered, a beautiful white little wolf with a gray shape star over her left eye. Esmeralda was staring into the white wolf eyes; her eyes. The eyes were glowing bright blue and gold. It had a look like a galaxy from out of space. Esmeralda loves the new look and those beautiful eyes. She has never seen such beautiful eyes before and she wondered if there were more people like her with such eyes.

Then Esmeralda spoke to Star, "I remember hearing by one of the Rogues saying that I was not 16 years old in order to shift. I think my anger must have triggered the wolf inside of me, without not knowing, I was a werewolf.  But WOW! That's how a werewolf looks like? So those ugly wild-looking beasts are actually werewolves?" 

Then Star responded, "that is correct. But you are a very special wolf though. I've always been around since the first day you were born. I've just never made myself known to you since you were just a baby." Esmeralda was shocked again by hearing her words. 

"How can someone be born with a werewolf? Who made them," asked Esmeralda?

Star continued, "but I've always protected you while you were sleeping. There is danger all around us and you may never know when we will get caught." 

Esmeralda's thoughts went haywire, "my mommy, she's a werewolf! She died protecting me. Why didn't she tell me about werewolves? And daddy is he alive? " She was desperate to know if her dad made it out alive. 

Unfortunately, Star said the saddest news any child doesn’t want to hear, "I'm so sorry child. Dad didn't make it. You got me now. I'm here." Esmeralda's heart felt like it was getting stabbed by a knife. She began to cry, and dropped to the ground and curled up into a fetal style. She just hugged herself, crying so much that the birds nearby were not singing anymore.

After a while, Star spoke to her, "it's OK now. I'll teach you how to hunt and stay alive. We are in this together. Plus you have to feed for two now and I am very hungry. Let me teach you how to hunt." 

While trying to cheer Esmeralda up a little, Star had also asked her if she can take over her body. Esmeralda had no idea what she was talking about so she just agreed since she is new to this entire werewolf thing. Esmeralda stopped crying, and then Star took over her body. Esmeralda felt like she was being pushed back into a room with only a window to view outside. She felt safe and secure and no one can bother her there.

Then Star began to hunt for food. Esmeralda was watching her run all over the forest. After ten minutes of searching, Star found her prey. She crawled her way as quiet she can be and then jumped at her prey and killed it instantly. Esmeralda was saddened because it was a cute little white bunny but knowing that they must survive, food will be food and they must eat to stay alive. But with one bunny it was not enough. So Star began searching again after eating her prey. With success, she caught a deer and ate it with confidence. Since Star was doing all the eating, Esmeralda was able to taste the flavors in her mouth. Her tummy felt full too. She was amazed by how Star and herself are connected to each other. After finishing eating and cleaning after herself,  Esmeralda spiked up a conversation with her wolf. 

"So tell me about yourself, Star. How old are you? I am five years old," said Esmeralda Knight. 

Then Star spoke who still has control over Esmeralda, "I am 18 years old. I know. I'm an adult but we live a long life span. So by the time you turn 16, I'll still be 18 years old. Isn't that so cool?" 

Esmeralda got surprised, then said, "that is awesome." 

Star responded back, "good to hear. Let's find a safer place to stay for the night. We must continue our journey to find our pack. We are not safe out here in the Rogues territory. Of course, we can continue our conversation later, if you would like? " 

Standing up on her four paws, sniffing the air, Star continued, "we will get caught and I'm not looking forward to outrunning them again. I need my rest for today now. Tomorrow will be a new day." 

Then Esmeralda agreed, "OK Star, lead the way."

Off they go to find a safe place to sleep. Not knowing how far the river took them, they knew they were off their pack territory and ended up in one of many Rogue territories. Esmeralda was scared and lost but with Star's help, they will find their way home. But where is home? Esmeralda never had been outside of her home nor been to the packhouse where her parents belong to. She has only known her home just miles away from the Silverstone Pack. 

Now, how is that going to help? Esmeralda's house was surrounded by lots of trees and it is very hard to locate. Without many roads to get to her place, this is going to be one difficult task to accomplish, to find her home.
