Adaeze Okoro is a scholarship student from a poor background who just wants one thing: graduate top of her class and change her family’s life. But her plans crash on day one when she meets Damian Okafor — the Campus King, billionaire’s son, and her worst bully from secondary school. Damian makes it his mission to make her life hell. But when Ada gets caught in the middle of a dangerous debt crisis surrounding Damian’s family, he becomes the one protecting her. What started as hate turns into tension, then secrets, then feelings neither of them wanted. Enemies to lovers. Secrets. Bullying. One dangerous secret that could destroy them both.

Chapter 1: First Day Hell
--- *The gate of Royal Crest University was bigger than my entire secondary school. Gold letters spelled “RCU” across the top, and two security men in black suits stood like they were guarding the president. Students drove in with Benz, Range Rovers, even one helicopter landed on the field as I walked in with my small Ghana-Must-Go bag. I adjusted my plain white shirt and black skirt. Scholarship student. Full ride. First class or I’m going back to Surulere with nothing. “Fresh blood,” someone whispered behind me. “Look at her shoes,” another girl snickered. I didn’t look back. My mum’s voice was in my head: _“Ada, don’t let anybody make you feel small. You earned this.”_ The orientation hall was massive. Air conditioning cold enough to freeze. Every seat was taken except the ones in front. Those ones had reserved signs: `FOR ROYALS ONLY`. I found a seat at the back. Pulled out my notebook. Tried to look like I belonged. Then the doors slammed open. Everyone stood up. He walked in like he owned the air we were breathing. Tall. About 6’2. Black designer blazer with the RCU crest in gold. Wristwatch that cost more than my mum’s rent for one year. Hair cut sharp. Face cold. Damian Okafor. Campus King. Son of Okafor Group. Billionaire. And the boy who made my last two years in secondary school a living hell. My stomach dropped. He didn’t see me at first. He walked straight to the front row, and 10 people scrambled to make space for him. Girls giggled. Guys nodded like he was a king. Which he was. The Dean came on stage. “Welcome to Royal Crest University. We are proud to announce this year’s scholarship recipient from a public school...” My name was about to be called. “Miss Adaeze Okoro,” the Dean said. I stood up. My legs were shaking. “Thank you, sir.” That’s when Damian looked up. His eyes met mine. For one second, nothing. Then his lips curved into a slow, cruel smile I remembered too well. “Fancy that,” he said loud enough for the whole hall to hear. “The rat from St. Mary’s Public School made it here.” Laughter burst out. Loud. My face burned. I kept my back straight. “I earned my place, Mr. Okafor.” “Did you?” He leaned back in his chair, studying me like I was dirt on his shoe. “We’ll see how long you last.” The Dean cleared his throat awkwardly and continued. But nobody was listening anymore. Everyone was looking at me. Whispering. After orientation, I tried to leave fast. But he was waiting by my locker. Damian and his two bodyguards. “Did you miss me, Adaeze?” he asked softly. “I don’t know you,” I lied. He laughed. “Right. You don’t know the boy who poured ink on your project in SS2. Or the one who told everyone you failed math because you slept with the teacher.” That wasn’t true. But it didn’t matter. The damage was done. “I’m not in secondary school anymore,” I said. “Leave me alone.” “Or what?” He stepped closer. He smelled like expensive cologne and trouble. “You think scholarship will protect you here? This is my father’s school, Ada. Every professor, every club, every seat... mine.” “I don’t care.” “You should.” He picked up my notebook from my bag without asking. Flipped through it. “Neat handwriting. Shame if something happened to it.” He dropped it on the floor. Stepped on it. Something inside me snapped. I bent down, picked it up, and looked him straight in the eye. “You can break my books. You can embarrass me. But you can’t stop me from graduating top of this class.” His smile faded a little. Like he didn’t expect that. “Bold words,” he murmured. “I like bold girls. Makes it more fun to break them.” Before I could answer, his phone buzzed. He glanced at it, and his whole face changed. The playful cruelty was gone. Replaced with something... tense. “Family meeting,” one of the bodyguards said. Damian looked at me one last time. “This isn’t over, scholarship girl.” Then he walked away, surrounded by people. I stood there, heart pounding. My hands were shaking, but not from fear. From anger. Royal Crest University. Four years. Him vs Me. What I didn’t know yet was that Damian Okafor was hiding a secret. And in two weeks, that secret would put both our lives in danger. But for now... It was just Day 1. And the war had started. *To be continued...* ---
