Ron shook Toby’s hand vigorously and said, “So nice to meet you, Toby. We were delighted when John told us you’d be able to make the party.”
Jessie reached in and grabbed Toby’s hands and said, “Honey, it’s so nice to meet you.” Turning to Wayne, she said, “You tell your mom I said Toby ain’t just handsome, he’s gorgeous.” She turned back to Toby and winked.
“Congratulations on your anniversary,” Toby said, doing his best to make eye contact with both the evening’s honorees.
“Why thank you, sweetie,” Jessie said.
“I understand you’ll be around for a while?” Ron asked. “John says you’re starting driving school?”
“Yessir.”
“Oh, good,” Jessie said. “We’ll have time to get to know each other. Let’s find a day when I can take you to lunch. How does that sound?”
