“Once you sign it, you belong to my world and there’s no turning back.”

On her birthday, Sarah McKaley discovers her boyfriend’s betrayal—with her own best friend. Heartbroken and humiliated, she never expected anything to change her life forever.

A desperate decision ties her to Jayden Lin, the ruthless CEO of SJ Corporation. Cold. Powerful. Untouchable. He is also her ex-boyfriend’s stepfather.

What begins as a contract marriage meant to protect reputations and secure her career soon turns into something far more dangerous. Beneath Jayden’s controlled exterior lies a man who doesn’t let go of what he claims as his, and the way he looks at Sarah makes it impossible to tell where the contract ends, and desire begins.

She knows she should walk away. But once she becomes Jayden’s wife, turning back is no longer an option.

Chapter 1. The Betrayal
“Ah, that’s amazing. You always make me feel good, baby!” A moan drifted through the hallway as Sarah stepped slowly toward her boyfriend’s bedroom. She froze before forcing herself to move closer and listen more. “I know how to please you, hmm.” Another familiar voice followed. Sarah gasped and held her breath. Her thumping heart was due to nervousness and fear. She finally arrived at the unlocked door of Keith’s bedroom. Moving slowly, she peeked through the half-open door. She gasped and quickly covered her mouth with one hand. The sight shattered her when she witnessed her boyfriend having an affair with her best friend, Julie. Their bodies tangled beneath the sheets; lips locked as if nothing else mattered. “Shouldn’t you leave?” Julie let go of her kiss with a moan. Keith snorted, then pulled himself to lie on his back. His eyes were still fixed on Julie, who was naked inside the blanket. “Why would you want me to leave?” “To pick up Sarah. Don’t say you forgot about her birthday today.” Julie smirked, then giggled. She could only say something sinister behind her, because she had always pretended to be a loyal best friend in front of Sarah. “I don’t want to go to that party.” Keith sighed and looked bored. “Why?” “Why should I? It’s going to be boring. She only wants dinner, no music, nothing fancy. I just called her and said that I’ve got to review the design!” Sarah widened her eyes. She was the one who had worked day and night on it. It is her idea and concept. While Julie had only helped with fragments of unfinished suggestions, Sarah had trusted her with them because she was her best friend. Now, Sarah felt suffocated by hearing and witnessing the truth, especially when Julie laughed at her stupidity for letting Keith off at Sarah’s birthday dinner. “You can’t do that, Darling. We still need her. What if she leaves because you don’t show up on the date?” Julie teased him with annoying giggles. “She will stay no matter what, because she loves me. I’d rather spend more time here and have fun!” Julie squeaked happily as Keith kissed and moaned again. Sarah held her gasp by covering her mouth quickly with one hand. Her other hand was clutching a small cake box from his favorite pastry shop. Instead of intruding, she stepped back and left the apartment without making any sound. Her broken heart was loud enough for her soul to hear. Now she was in the elevator, descending toward the lobby. Once she stepped out, she rushed to find the taxi. With tears hanging in her eyes, she threw the cake box into the trash bin outside just before she raised her hand to call a cab that was parked nearby. “Oh my God,” she mumbled with a trembled voice. She tried to calm herself by arranging her breathing. It was like a rock hitting her head. No wonder Keith has never proposed to her, though she has waited for the question. After taking some breaths, something appeared in her mind. The project design is still in her file cloud. She was finalizing it before showing it to Keith, and they would send it together. After learning about Keith’s affair, she considered sending the design under her name rather than his. Sarah had agreed to hand in her design under Keith’s name, but she has now changed her mind. So, she took her phone and opened her email. It only took her a few minutes to send the file to the company. Her finger hovered over the send button. This design was meant to save their future together. Now, it would save hers. “I will never let my hard work get into your hands, Keith.” She clenched her jaw. She would never let her hard work fall into Keith’s hands. She went home and canceled the dinner reservation she prepared. Sarah took her time to cry and locked herself in the room. About an hour later, Keith called, and it went straight to her voicemail. As she expected, Keith sent her an apology to her personal chat account. He wrote that he would be working late so they could finalize the design before tomorrow. “Jerk,” she cursed once she read his chat. She knew he was lying because the file had been sent to the company without him. Instead, Sarah called him back and outsmarted him. She pretended that she did not know anything. “I’m sorry, baby …” “It’s okay, Keith. We can do the dinner next time,” Sarah forced a calm tone, swallowing the bitterness rising in her throat. “Of course. Once they accept the design, we’re going to celebrate it along with your birthday, okay?” “Hmm.” Sarah only hummed before cutting off the line, as she always did, without expressing her love. She did not care if Keith would be curious about her actions. At night, Sarah could not sleep. She kept thinking about the odds of things happening between Keith and Julie. Now she understood that Keith only took credit for her work. At the same time, Julie acted like she was a good best friend. Sarah, even the one who introduced them, then how could they stab her like this? While caressing her dizzy forehead, she felt her phone vibrate. There was an email that reached her early in the morning. It was coming from the company, SJ Corp. She quickly opened it and gasped in shock. The design has passed the initial evaluation. They asked her to call a number to talk about it further. Without wasting time, she did it. Her excitement rose. “Miss McKaley, you need to make the presentation this afternoon. I will book an appointment for you,” a woman on the phone said. Sarah could not resist her smile. “Of course, I will be there at ten if you don’t mind.” “Then, we will be waiting for you. Thank you for the confirmation.” “You are welcome.” Sarah jumped happily despite her broken heart yesterday. She did not want to think about Kieth or Julie now. Now, she was better prepared for her presentation. Sarah arrived at SJ Corp 30 minutes early for her appointment. She was eager to see the secretary who called her this morning. Sarah smiled when she sat on a couch in the waiting room. She admired the company's interior design. It was lavish yet modern and captivating. But she saw none there. Was she the only designer they called? After waiting for thirty minutes, at 10 am, the secretary asked her to follow her to the room. She walked to a room. Nobody’s there. “Have a seat, he will come to see you in a minute.” Sarah only glanced before the secretary walked out. Her eyes were now wandering around the beautiful, spacious room. “Oh my God.” Soon, she would be part of building a new tower for the city. Sarah still couldn’t believe it. It was too close. “I’m sorry that you’ve waited for me, Miss McKaley.” A husky, deep voice suddenly interrupted her. A man came from behind her, and he walked to a table in front of Sarah. Sarah stood and smiled as the man proudly raised his chin. He put out his hand, and Sarah grabbed it quickly as she introduced herself. “My name is Sarah McKaley, Sir.” “Jayden. I am Jayden Lin.” He shook her hand, then sat on the chair. Meanwhile, Sarah’s broad smile slowly turned into shock. “Lin? Are you… Jayden Lin? The owner of SJ?” Sarah squeaked. “Yes, do we know each other?” Sarah almost choked. The company owner, as well as the CEO, came by himself to see her. She smoothed her skirt, suddenly aware of how fast her heart was beating. What if this was all a mistake?
