PROLOGUE
A woman sat with her legs crossed on a single sofa. She wore a sharp black suit consisting of a blazer and trousers. Beneath the blazer was a crisp white dress shirt, accented by a dark red tie that was loosely knotted. Between her fingers was a cigarette, now burned halfway down. The room was dim, and it felt even darker behind the shades she wore. In front of her was a man knelt on the ground, bloody and beaten to a pulp. He repeatedly begged to be let go, but the she was not yet finished with him.
Hestia Montessori, 25 years old, is the first heiress daughter of Memphis Montessori by his first wife. Her father's main organization has 8 pillars (sub-organizations) that serve as the foundation for why it is the most powerful in the underground. The first pillar was a gift from her father when she graduated college. Hestia runs it, along with the businesses her father inherited to her. She is known for being ruthless, as she spares no one. Her enemies call her the "Ice Queen" because she has no heart. She never looks at her enemies with empathy, as that is what she was trained for, to be ruthless, competent, vigilant, and selfless.
"Do you remember the punishment for betrayal?" she asked in a deep tone, exhaling a cloud of cigarette smoke into the air of the room. "Death."
"Ple... please, give me another chance, Miss Hestia. I beg you." He pleaded again, his palms pressed together as if praying for his life before her.
"Hmmm... So, you will sacrifice your family to save yourself?" she asked coldly. "That's cold of you."
"N-No, I-I didn't say that. Not my family, Miss Hestia. Just take me instead!" he retracted, nearly kissing the floor in his desperation. "I-I will do anything, please forgive me—"
Cellphone ringing...
"Sshh!" Hestia signaled with her finger to be quiet when her cellphone suddenly rang. When she checked the caller, it was Anastasia, her father's second wife and her stepmother. "What is it, Mom? I'm in the middle of something right now."
"I'm just checking if you're on your way to the restaurant. Mr. Fin is already on his way," Anastasia reminded her of the blind date set for that day. "I hope you're not ghosting your date again, Hestia."
She looked at her watch. "Of course not. Like I promised, I'm going. Actually, I'm on my way," she lied.
"Hmmm... really? You just said you were in the middle of something," her stepmother replied, unconvinced. She knew Hestia very well, especially since she had helped raise her.
"I'm in the middle of the road, Mom!" she clarified. "I have to hang up and focus on driving." She grimaced as she ended the call.
"Boss, what do you want us to do with this one?" one of her men asked.
Hestia didn't answer, she stood up and walked directly in front of the man. She lifted his head with the toe of her boot. "Tell me, would you like to trade your family for your life?" she asked with a blank expression.
The man swallowed hard, exhausted by the torture he had endured. "Y-Yes," he answered without hesitation, having changed his mind to choose his own life.
"Huh!" Hestia chuckled slightly. "I'll let you live if you survive this." Without another word, she kicked the man. She swept her hair back and walked toward him. "You're such an asshole. Trading your family for your useless f*****g life?"
"Ahhh!" he screamed as she stepped down hard on the wound in his chest. "Please, have mercy, Miss Hestia, I still want to live," he pleaded while coughing up blood.
"And you think you deserve it?" She pressed her foot even harder onto his chest. She took the gun from her holster and aimed the barrel at him. "My bullet will decide if you'll live." She pulled the trigger, releasing three consecutive shots directly into his chest.
She returned the gun to her holster and walked out of the room. Her men would handle the corpse because they knew the drill—burn their bodies until they turn to ashes. They leave no trace of the people they kill.
When the she stepped out of the mansion, she was greeted by twelve men lined up on either side. They bowed to her out of respect as she walked between them. She took the car keys from an attendant, and a black Rolls-Royce awaited her. She climbed into the driver's seat and sped away from the area. She was now on her way to the blind date set up by her stepmother. The car was drove almost without brakes. It wasn't because she was excited about what awaited her, but because she wanted to arrive so she could finish the blind date quickly. She had a golf course appointment later, and that was more important than where she was headed.
Hestia stepped out of the car, where she was met by a valet. She handed him the keys and warned, "I'll make your life pay the collateral of my car if you scratch it."
"Ahm, y-yes, Ma'am Hestia." The valet climbed in and drove her car to the VVIP parking area.
"Hestia!"
She immediately turned around upon hearing the familiar voice behind her. "Mom?" f**k, no! she thought.
Anastasia glared at her, her aura darkening at the sight of Hestia's outfit. "What are you wearing? You should be wearing a dress!" she scolded, then dragged her toward where her van was parked.
"Oh, come on. But there's nothing wrong with my clothes," she said, tired of arguing about what she wore. She didn't like the style of the dresses her stepmother bought her, she felt losing her edge whenever she wore them.
"No buts. Get inside!"
The door of the black Ford Transit van opened. She was met by a wardrobe full of dresses, different designer shoes, a makeup vanity, and Anastasia's two personal stylists. They smiled sweetly at her while she offered a forced smile, gritting her teeth when she saw the dress and makeup the two stylists were holding.
