“s**t!”
A huge fire blasted towards Arth coming from the terrifying breath of the dragon. He quickly raised both of his hands to perform an ice materialization.
Blue light brightened above him and as it faded, he was now holding a shield made of ice, hopefully, strong enough to protect his whole body. He immediately used it to block the fire blast from the red dragon.
“Gaaahhhh!” he groaned loudly in pain as the shield was already melting so quickly.
My ice weapons won’t stand a chance against this demonic dragon! Arth thought as he stood hard in the ground to keep himself from getting blown away by the dragon’s breath.
Luckily, the beast stopped just as the shield was about to break into pieces. The dragon began to soar high above, preparing to charge down to Arth just like before.
“Can you please do it a little faster?! Damn it! I’m getting roasted here already!” he yelled at Janshai who was standing in the center of the six-pointed star. The mark was already glowing in red light.
“Don’t f*****g pressure me or I might mess this up!” Janshai shouted back.
His left wrist now had a deep cut and thick blood was already flowing from it towards the mark on the floor. “f**k!” he cursed in pain as he was already losing a lot of blood.
Arth suddenly looked up and saw the dragon rushing down towards him now. I need to get bring that dragon down here for me to cripple or at least m**m it, he thought. He knew he had to target the beast’s wings somehow.
“I guess I just have to use it,” Arth said.
He pulled his Blackwinter sword and extended it in front of him. He closed his eyes and took a huge breath.
Then Arth flashed his eyes open.
“Frozen s***h!” he shouted as his sword suddenly glowed brightly. It was a useful sword skill taught by Lucas when they had their training in the White Forest. But it would consume a lot of mana so Lucas recommended him using it for the last resort.
Arth stomped his foot hard against the stone floor and gave a heavy swing of his glowing sword upwards direction towards the dragon above.
The wave of his sword drew a blue arc energy targeting the beast above. The blue wave aimed at the center of the dragon’s body but then it swiftly rotated to dodge it.
“Damn that’s fast!” Arth breathed heavily but he noticed that the dragon’s left wing was actually hit by his attack.
“Yes. Hope that’s enough to keep it from flying,” Arth already felt weak and drained out after using the sword skill but he could still move.
The blue energy that hit the left wing of the beast suddenly created strong ice quickly spreading towards the whole part of its wing. The ice completely covered the dragon’s wing and now it could not fly properly.
Arth quickly dashed away from his position as the beast lost balance and was about to crash to the stone floor. The top floor of the tower shook and the hot wind blew hard around the beast as its huge body fell. It gave a deafening screech that Arth had to cover his ears.
He knew this was his chance to attack when the dragon was still down. It was only a matter of time before it could break the ice on its wing so he must act fast.
He extended his right hand and was now creating an ice weapon. He saw the dragon taking a deep breath already preparing to exhale fire to the ice on its left wing.
“More strength!” Arth’s eyebrows stormed as he closed his eyes. His right hand radiated with blue energy and this energy formed to create a big and long spear.
He noticed that the magic ring Alice gave him was now destroyed. He already used up a lot of mana from the Frozen s***h earlier and then performing ice materialization many times. His right arm was already shaking but he tightened his grip on the ice spear.
That didn’t matter now because he was already making his stance to strike the spear to the dragon. He bent his knees and raised the spear above aiming towards the dragon’s neck while it was still busy thawing out the ice on its wing.
Arth narrowed his eyes focusing on the long neck of the beast. He had to spin his whole body to discharge the spear with much power and momentum. Its weight was giving Arth the trouble of throwing it. But he exerted all of his strength to strike the spear. The spear traveled at lightning speed.
At one blink, Arth suddenly heard the sharp point of the spear piercing through a flesh. But he still couldn’t see clearly which part it thrust.
The dragon screeched loudly as its right-wing flapped heavily. Arth had to cover his eyes because of the dusty wind blowing hard around the beast.
When he removed his hands from his eyes, his lips parted in shock.
“What?!” he shouted when he realized that the dragon actually managed to block the ice spear. It somehow sacrificed its arm to save its neck.
Arth could see the spear that plunged through the beast’s arm. Red-orange blood from its wound was now flowing down on the floor.
This is bad… Arth held his chest as he coughed blood and was now breathing heavily. All of his mana was already used up and his strength was depleting. He exerted almost all of his power in that final throw. If he couldn’t catch the dragon’s attention now, it might attack and disturb Janshai.
“Are you finished already?!” Arth shouted at him.
“f**k, almost!” Janshai was now on the floor spreading his offered blood all throughout the circular mark. Arth saw that it was already glowing brighter.
He tried to take a step but his legs now weakened. He was forced to kneel down and he used his sword standing on the floor to keep his body from falling out of balance.
“I have… to…” Arth coughed hard as he tried to stand up again. “Hold this damn beast off.”
Dragons were actually S-class beasts. They were the most powerful and rare class beast so they were not that easy to kill. Even with Arth’s full strength, he still couldn’t beat a single S-class beast. And he knew that ever since he started fighting the red dragon. But his plan was not to kill it. He only needs to keep its attention out from Janshai for just a little longer.
The dragon now completely broke the ice from its left wing. It shook its huge body and now locked its blazing eyes to Arth.
“It’s done!” Janshai yelled.
The dragon now charged towards Arth who was now helplessly trying to stand up. But it stopped when the circular mark at the center suddenly burst out red light beam. The beast’s attention was caught when the light beam pierced straight towards above.
Arth covered his eyes because of the blinding light.
“Get in here now, i***t!” Janshai called to him. “This portal won’t last long!”
Arth was about to walk slowly but the dragon’s long and huge tail slammed on the floor in front of him blocking his way towards the portal.
He muttered a curse as he looked up towards the furious head of the beast. Sweat was already pouring down from his head to his neck. His heart was beating so fast in fear. He couldn’t even raise his heavy sword anymore.
The dragon now extended its left claw and gave a powerful swing to strike Arth.
Is this the end? Arth closed his eyes. I guess this is it.
At all of a sudden, he heard the sound of a blade slicing through a hard flesh. When he opened his eyes, his eyebrows rose in shock.
Arth saw Janshai now in front of him while facing the huge dragon ahead. He was already holding his black scythe with him. Arth noticed that there was still blood coming out of Janshai’s wounded wrist.
The dragon screeched in pain as its arm was sliced off by the sharp blade of Janshai’s scythe. Bright red blood spurted out of its cut and rained down towards the two.
“Get to the portal now,” Janshai told Arth as he spun his long scythe above him.
Arth furrowed his brows as he looked worriedly at Janshai’s b****y left wrist.
“But what about your-
“Just go!” Janshai shouted as he swiftly evaded the beast’s other claw.
Arth clenched his fist as he tried to walk fast towards the red portal. His knees were shaking but he used all of his remaining strength to at least get the hell out of this wretched place already.
As he was already one step towards the portal, he turned back and looked at the fight. Even Janshai was already struggling from fighting with the huge beast. Arth wanted to help and save his friend, but his guts were telling him to go to the portal already since it was now closing.
“Janshai, get out of there now!” Arth yelled before stepping into the portal. He closed his eyes and groaned as he felt his body dematerializing again.
A few seconds later, he slowly felt the cold temperature of his surroundings. He moved his feet and realized that he was already stepping on the snowy surface. His body became so heavy that he suddenly fell down to the cold snow.
“Arth! Oh gods,” he heard Alice’s voice. When he opened his eyes, it was unclear but all he could see was her white hair and light skin face in his sight.
“Alice,” he tried to raise his hand to touch her face but he couldn’t because of all the energy he lost.
“You dumbass, you really got me worried so bad,” Alice shook her head as she helped Arth’s head lie on her arms.
Arth still managed to smile but then he noticed something.
“The summoner… where the hell is she?” Arth whispered.
“Don’t worry. We already surrounded her and make her suffer the worst way possible,” Alice caressed Arth’s black hair that was already messed up. “Where’s Janshai?”
Arth’s eyes immediately widened as he remembered about him. He slowly forced himself to sit up and looked at the radiating portal.
“He’s… he’s… oh s**t!” Arth slapped his forehead while muttering another curse.
“What? Why? What happened?” Alice stared at him worriedly. “Robert! Help me get him up!” she shouted. Arth slowly heard Robert’s voice coming.
“Hell what happened to you?!” Robert said as he placed Arth’s arm around his neck and helped him stand up.
“Janshai…” Arth pointed at the portal. “He’s still there… and it’s already closing.”
Alice and Robert both looked at the portal. The light was now slowly fading.
“This is all my fault,” Arth looked down to the ground and closed his eyes out of frustration. This is all my f*****g fault! I left him there alone fighting the dragon! Damn it, he thought.
His tears were already coming out of his eyes while still closed. “I should’ve…” he wiped the tears on his cheeks. “I should’ve been the one who stayed…”
“What on Earthos are you mourning there, i***t? My death?”
Arth suddenly heard Janshai’s familiar voice. When he opened his eyes again, Arth saw him standing in the middle of the mark. The portal was now gone. His black coat was now ripped off and has traces of dust from the Outland. His black hair was also messed up now.
Arth’s lips parted as he immediately stepped towards him. He then placed both of his hands on Janshai’s shoulders. He tried to touch and rub Janshai’s arms to make sure if it was really him.
“You… you made it!” Arth said in relief.
“The hell are you talking about?” Janshai’s right eyebrow rose in confusion.
“I thought you’ve been stuck there forever! I’m just… glad,” Arth tapped his shoulders and let out a huge breath.
Janshai just rolled his red eyes. “Will you put your hands off me now? You’re embarrassing me,” he said as he looked away from Arth.
Arth chuckled and now removed his hands from him. “Your wrist, how is it?”
“Fine. I already stopped the bleeding,” he replied.
Arth nodded and then turned around. He suddenly saw Alice and Robert’s faces both shocked.
“What?” Arth raised a brow.
As he tried to take a step forward, he almost fell to the ground again because of his tired body but Robert immediately attended to him.
“What the f**k was that, Arth? I never thought he would let himself be touched like that,” Robert whispered to Arth. “He usually goes mad when someone even just pokes him.”
The side of Arth’s lips rose. “You should know him better. He’s actually nice.”
“Like hell I will,” Robert whispered back as he shook his head.
“Where’s the red-haired lady?” Janshai asked Alice.
“Behind the huge tree over there,” Alice pointed at the tree trunk from a distance.
They all went towards the tree while Robert was helping Arth to walk slowly. As they were close, Arth heard Lucas’ voice coming from behind the tree.
“Ryia the summoner, you are now our target among the Frostguarde members,” Lucas said. “Drop your staff and I will make your death as quick and peaceful as you wish.”
When they walked and looked behind the tree, Arth noticed that Luna and their boss, Lucas, were there.
His eyes widened when he saw the red-haired lady and another two grand knights with her.
Lucas glanced at Arth and Janshai. His face became relieved. His lips formed a smirk and then turned back to the lady. The two grand knights drew out their swords protecting the summoner behind them.
“I never knew the whole guild of the Forgotten Winter would actually come here,” the red-haired lady said as she raised her brown staff. “Dain and Sir Kael were indeed fooled”
She pointed extended her arms and pointed her staff towards Lucas. “But I’ll finish all of you here and now-
The summoner stopped speaking when a sharp curved blade suddenly sliced her arms in lightning speed. Her eyes widened as she saw her arms getting cut into two. The brown staff fell to the ground together with her two arms sliced off. Her jaws dropped in shock.
“You’ve done enough hell already, you b***h,” Janshai said in a low voice as he spun his long scythe. “You almost killed the two of us, you f*****g know that?”
Ryia was forced to kneel on the ice ground as blood spurted endlessly from her sliced arms. She screamed out of pain and now coughed blood on her mouth.
“Now you know what happens when you piss off a demon,” Janshai gave a single wave of his scythe aiming at her neck. At one blink, her head was sliced in a clean cut. It fell and rolled to the ground with so much blood flowing from it.
The two grand knights turned around in shock as they didn’t see Janshai directly eliminating the lady they were protecting in an incredible speed.
“Gavin and Felix, you two aren’t our targets,” Lucas told the knights as he turned his back. “If you value your life, go and take her head to your divine knight.”
“Lucas, why are you doing this? You should’ve been the greatest and most powerful divine knight in Northrend,” Grand knight Gavin said while still on his stance. “And yet, you chose to go against the capital.”
“Divine knight?” Lucas chuckled. “I was never contented of that, Gavin,” he replied in a cold voice.
Arth’s eyebrows furrowed because of what the boss replied. He could’ve said that the kingdom was already suffering from corruption and evil, but he didn’t. Is there some other reason why he betrayed the capital? Arth thought.
“Target eliminated. Mission accomplished,” Lucas called. “Forgotten Winter team, move out!”
They now got on their horses and went to the depth of the white forest. They only brought four horses, so Janshai rode with Lucas while Arth was on Robert’s horse
“Aren’t we going back to the hideout?” Arth asked in a soft voice as his black hair was flailing with the cold wind.
“We can’t go back. It was already found out,” Robert replied. “But we already packed our things, Arth.”
Arth suddenly looked at him with furrowed brows. “Wait, what about my stuff, Robert?”
Robert suddenly formed an apologetic smile and then scratched his head.
“Did you just leave my things there on the hideout?!”
“We were in a hurry, Arth! Luna said that those two members of the Frostguarde were already on their way,” Robert explained. “But don’t worry! You can borrow my clothes!”
Arth rolled his eyes and shook his head. “My journal and some of my equipment were there.”
“Just forget it, Arth. The important thing is that you’re here now alive,”
“Whatever,” Arth sighed. “So where are we heading now?”
“Winterrun, one of my desired places to go,” Robert’s lips formed a smirk. “The village of magic and sorcery in Northrend.”
