I was about to get in the car when we hear someone yell "William Alexander Bane how could you?!" I recognize that voice right away. I tell Melody we have to talk to Wills mom and that she can play with her tablet while she is waiting. I close the door when i get out of the car, afraid this could get ugly.
Wills mom Alicia is already berating him on how irresponsible he was to jump in front of a loaded gun. I really like Alicia. She is one of the few people in town that is nice to me without any reason. She even helped me with Melody in the beginning, watching her so I could take a shower and eat properly. I hate that I have ruined that friendship and put her son in danger. When she sees me coming up beside Will she turns to me. I keep my eyes on the ground and start to apologize: "I am so sorry Mrs. Bane! I..." Before I can say anything else she has me trapped in a bear hug. I am stunned and can't move. She pulls back and holds me by the shoulders "Thank god you are alright! You should really not provoke a drunk sheriff with a gun! What would happen to Melody if she came out to find you dead on the porch? Thank god you didn't get hurt! Even though I am mad at Will for putting his life in danger, I am happy that he was there to help you." I am still stunned, I can't do anything but to stare at her. Will chuckles and explains to his mom: "She thought you would be mad at her and blame her like everybody else in this town." His mom turns back to me and looks at me in the eyes "God no! I am not mad at you! You did not ask the sheriff to come drunk out of his a** and you can not control what my son is doing. God knows I have tried!" She says with a little laughter. "That means a lot to me." Is all I managed to say with a shaky voice.
"Well, we're leaving now for Georgetown. Best get going before the head of the storm hits." William says. I don't think he is talking about the weather. Then we are on our way. Melody is chatting away about anything and everything. Every time Will asks me a question Melody answers with a lot more information then i wold like him to know. Like when he asked me about my favorite color Melody said: "She loves sea blue and will say that is her favorite color, but when she byes clothes she byes them in different colors. Except for underwear, she usually byes her underwear in red, black or white." God that kid has no filter, but it never bothered me before now. I want the floor to swallow me up. I almost wonder if I should jump out the door. Will gives a low laugh and smurk while he says: "Good to know." Then he winks at me. I think my face is more red than a tomato. I am relieved when I see the amusement park in front of us.
When we get out of the car Will takes Melody on his arm and takes a hold of my hand. I am amazed. Melody has been too big for me to carry for over a year and he lifts her like she's a one year old little girl. She is almost five years now.
Melody refuses to call William by his name and only calls him her knight throughout the day. Will spoils her, giving her anything she wants. So we have to look after her stuff while she goes on rides with the friend she just made. I swear that girl can make friends anywhere.
"So... Have you told Melody about yesterday?" Will asks a little hesitant while Melody is on a Rollercoaster ride. "Yes, I told her about the gunman and the livestream. Not about the kissing part of the night. She soon found the livestream on the internet and would only talk about how your a real knight and that you should have worn your armor." Will laughs at the last part.
"Does she know that we are going to date?" Will asks while his eyes are scanning my face for the answer. "Yes, I told her after you showed up at the door this morning. She told me to be nice to you because you are the best."
"So I got Meldodys blessing, Amanda, Matt and my moms blessing. Now all I have to convince is you." He says comming closer to me on the bench. "I..." My voice dies when he kisses me hard on the mouth. I almost forget where we are because of the passionate kissing. Of course I am kissing him back just as hard. We only stop when we hear Meldody say: "Eeew, don't make babies here!" behind us. I blush again and hide my face in Wills shoulder.
You have to understand that Meldody doesn't know how babies are made. I had begun to tell her once but I had just got to the part when a man loves a woman when she started questioning that. Because her friend Leslie had to dads and no mom and someone made him. And her friend Becca had a ant that loves her husband very much, but the couldn't have children. I did not know how to explain that so I distracted her with something else until the whole conversation was forgotten.
Will laughs and tells her that making a baby is more complicated than a kiss. Then he distract her with more roller-coasters.
Will and I keep kissing each other, but we don't dare making out in front of Melody again. We have a lot of fun and Melody falls asleep on our way home.
Will looks at me a little nervous in the car before he asks: "So what's the verdict? Is there going to be a second date?" I make it look like I am thinking about it just to watch him squirm. I say after a few minutes: "That depends..." He looks at me before he answers: "Depends on what?" I smile before I say: "Depends on whether you ask me on a second date and where you might take me."
That earned me a big smile. We were driving up the road to my house. He was going to say something when we passed his parents house, but stopped when we saw two cars in my driveway. One of the cars belongs to Amanda and the other one was a sheriff's car.
