*Zac*
“Don’t be jello,” I call back with a laugh, seeing how Lena’s cheeks flame from getting caught.
I can’t help but grin like a fool as I watch the storm dissipate into the distance. The adrenaline is still coursing through my veins, and the taste of Lena’s kiss lingers on my lips, igniting a fire in my chest that I can’t ignore. She sits next to me, her eyes wide with wonder and excitement, and I feel a surge of pride knowing that we just shared something incredible together.
“Look at that!” I exclaim, pointing toward the remains of the tornado on the horizon, my heart racing with exhilaration. The sky is still swirling with dark clouds, but the danger has passed, at least for now. I can see the sun beginning to peek through, casting a golden light that dances across the remnants of the storm. “You survived your first twister.”
“What a rush!” Lena’s laughter fills the truck, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. “I can’t believe we actually did that,” she exclaims, and I feel a warmth spreading through me at the sight of her joy.
“Neither can the rest of us,” Soren chimes in, and I switch off the radio.
Lena giggles shyly, “You were right; there’s nothing like being up close to a storm.”
“Nothing like it,” I agree, pulling out my phone and checking the Storm King account. “Let’s share this with our followers.” I turn on the camera, positioning it to capture both of us against the backdrop of the storm’s aftermath. The wind has calmed, but I can still feel the electricity in the air, a reminder of the chaos we just witnessed.
“Hey, everyone!” I say, my voice filled with excitement as I address the camera. “We’re live from just outside the tornado path, and wow, what an experience. The storm just touched down, and we were right here to see it. This was Lena’s very first tornado. Lena, what do you think?”
She leans in closer, her smile infectious. “It was incredible! I’ve never felt anything like it. The power of nature is so humbling and beautiful.”
“Are you talking about the tornado or Zac’s kissing abilities?” Skip grins as he opens the door poking his head in.
I push him away, closing the door and chose to ignore his dumb commet completely.
“Exactly! This is what storm chasing is all about… the thrill, the energy, and the connection we feel with nature. You can see the rotation on the radar, and we were right in its path. Skip will have the video up soon, and don’t forget to hit that subscribe button.”
As I finish up, I can’t help but glance at Lena who has stopped out of the truck, reveling in the way her eyes light up as she looks up,at the sky. The way her hair blows gently in the breeze, framing her face, makes my heart race all over again. There’s something magnetic about her, and I can’t shake the feeling that this is just the beginning of something extraordinary.
“Zac, look at the data!” Soren calls from outside, breaking my focus. I jump out and turn my attention to the laptop, where the numbers are streaming in, confirming what I already know: this was an incredible storm. “We’ve got some good rotation and velocity readings. This one was definitely a strong EF1, maybe even a small EF2!”
“Perfect,” I reply, my excitement spilling over. “Let’s add this to the video and get it out to our followers so they can see the stats too. This is going to blow their minds.”
As I start to summarize the data for our audience, I can feel Lena’s presence beside me, a steadying force amidst the chaos. “We were able to capture the essence of the storm, and this data will help us understand it better,” I say, my voice growing more animated. “We’re not just chasing storms; we’re learning from them!”
I can see the comments flooding in on the screen about the live, viewers expressing their awe and disbelief. ‘You guys are crazy,’ one comment reads, and I can’t help but laugh. ‘I’d never get that close!’ Someone else writes
‘We’re a little crazy, that’s true,’ I reply, my gaze flicking to Lena, who’s still buzzing with energy. ‘But that’s what makes this so thrilling! Every storm teaches us something new, and the experiences we have out here are unforgettable.’
“Plus, you never know who you’ll meet along the way,” Lena says, reading over my shoulder, her eyes sparkling as she nudges me playfully. “Some of them might even be rather incredible kissers.”
I feel my cheeks heat up, a mix of embarrassment and pride flooding my system. “Okay, okay, let’s not get carried away,” I laugh, trying to keep my cool while my heart races at her words. “But seriously, this storm may be gone, but this is just beginning. We’ve got more chasing ahead of us, and I can’t wait to get more data.”
As we finish packing things up, I feel a rush of excitement and gratitude. We did it… we faced another storm head-on, and we came out on the other side, not just unscathed but exhilarated. I look over at Lena, who’s grinning from ear to ear, and I know this is just the start of an incredible journey together.
“Ready for round two?” I ask, a grin spreading across my face as I open the door to the truck for her.
“Absolutely,” she replies, her eyes shining with determination. “Let’s go find the next one.”
