We were standing in the kitchen making dinner for everyone. We decided to make burgers for everyone because it was easy. Kyree was making the fries and the other side options while I went out to the grill and started the fire. I started cooking the burgers and the smell brought everyone outside to the back. Everyone gathered around outside and we were having a good time.
Kyree came outside and wrapped his arms around my waist while I cooked.
"You're good at this."
"A lot of years of practice."
We laughed.
"Just by looking at everyone, you wouldn't expect us to be going through basically an apocalypse right now."
He chuckled again.
"But thanks to the apocalypse, we found each other. We found a family, we found a new way of living, and we found peace."
I nodded my head. I finished all of the burgers and brought them inside. I started making everyone plates while Kyree helped. Everyone filed inside to get their food then went back outside with it because it was a really nice day out. Once everyone had their food, we made our plates then went outside too.
The younger kids were running around and playing while all of us talked and laughed. I went back inside and saw that we had a ton of leftovers so I made a few more plates and wrapped them up. I grabbed a big bag and put the plates in there. Kyree came inside to check on me.
"What're you doing?"
"I'm making dinner for everyone that's working the wall. They probably have snack and stuff but I wanted to make sure that they actually had something good to eat."
"Well that's sweet of you."
"Yeah."
I took a breath then gave him a kiss.
"I'll be back soon."
"Okay baby."
I smiled then kissed him again. I walked out the door and started walking towards the wall. I found two people standing there guarding it.
"Hey guys."
They turned around and smiled at me.
"What's up Tori?"
"I brought dinner for all of you."
"What is it?"
"Burgers, fries, a bag of chips, and a soda."
They looked at each other then came up to me. They got their food and were very happy.
"Oh this smells amazing."
"We were planning on having protein bars for dinner tonight so thank you."
I chuckled then went to the next post and gave them their food too. Once I got to the gate, it was one of Serina's friends and one of Kyree's friends post tonight.
"Hey guys, we made dinner and had a ton of leftovers so I'm giving it to everyone working the wall tonight."
Kyree's friend came up to me and got his food and thanked me. Serina's friend scoffed at him.
"So we're accepting food from people we don't like?"
"You don't like her. I like Tori, she really didn't do anything wrong."
She rolled her eyes.
"What is it?"
"Burger, fries, chips, and a soda."
"So a bunch of carbs?"
"The burger is protein, the bun is wheat, and the rest are carbs."
She nodded her head then got the burger from me. She unwrapped the plate and took a bite. Her face lit up and she took another one.
"This is amazing."
I chuckled.
"Thank you. That's my families recipe. We make dinner every night at our house so if you want more food just like that, you can come eat with us."
She looked down.
"Why does Serina hate you?"
"I have no clue."
Kyree's friend scoffed.
"It's because you're dating Ky. She's been hitting on him for years but he's not into preppy or annoying girls. He likes the simple type, the kind of girl that makes you question all of the relationships you've been in, in the past."
I chuckled.
"Well that could be the reason but I don't understand the whole, letting a guy get between girls. Or the other way around."
The both of them agreed and I heard yelling behind us. I looked down from their post and I saw a very angry Serina.
"How dare you try stealing my friends!"
"All I'm doing is giving them food!"
"First you steal my boyfriend, then you tell your brother to not talk to me, and now you're stealing my friends! It's like you're trying to take MY life!"
I stared at her for a few seconds. There was a group gathering around the scene she was making.
"Serina, we should take this somewhere else. You're making a scene and it's not helping either of us."
"No! We are doing this right here, right now."
I sighed.
"I'm not trying to steal your life. Kyree didn't want you obviously and we created a bond overtime that we are keeping. If my brother doesn't talk to you, that's his choice. I don't have control over him and if anything, Id rather you be with him than trying to get with my boyfriend."
She scoffed then tried climbing up the latter.
"Don't try hurting yourself. I'll come down, okay?"
She shook her head.
"I'm coming up there so I can throw you off you pinche pendeja!"
I looked around at everyone and they were just staring. Now everyone can see her true colors.
"Uh, Tori."
"What's wrong?"
"The post can't hold four people and we have company."
I looked over the wall and saw a few of the creatures on their way to us.
"Well, that was longer than I expected. Hand me a gun, I'm going to go to the other side of the wall to get a closer and better shot."
"Okay. You want us to come with?"
"Nah. Stand at the gate entrance just in case."
They nodded their heads then I remembered Serina was trying to climb up the ladder.
"We have to come down and go to the other side of the wall. You have to move so we can get down."
"I'm going to throw you off first."
Kyrees friend tapped my shoulder and pointed to the safety exit so the three of us went down that one without her noticing. We opened the gate and I was handed two guns then I walked out.
"Tori they're moving too close."
"They need to be closer."
"They are moving fast too."
"I know that."
I took a breath then turned the safety off. I started walking towards them and raised the gun. I fired twice and one of them stopped in their tracks. The other one continued walking towards. I fired twice more and shot the one coming after me in the head. The other one started slowly crawling towards me. As if it was surrendering to me.
It was a few feet away from me and I could feel its energy feeding off of it. I could feel its fear and its anger.
"Go. And don't come back. I'm not going to kill you, but never come around here again because I cannot control everyone else here. Am I clear?"
It grunted then bowed its head to me. It turned around and started sprinting full force away from me and I could tell that it bowing down to me, was its sign of respect and gratitude. I was walking back to the wall and I saw everyone standing there just watching what had just happened. I saw Kyree and the look of shock and fear on his face was unmistakable.
I walked up to him and I could tell he didn't know what to do or what to say to me.
"Can we go home now and talk about this later?"
He nodded his head then we started walking towards the house. We were almost there before we were stopped by a group of the people that watched what had just happened. Everyone was trying to question me but I blocked them out and pushed people out of my way and tried getting home as fast as I physically could. Once Kyree and I got inside of the house, I took a deep breath.
"Tori, what the hell was that?"
"I really don't know. I felt its energy. I felt its fear of me and its hope that Id let it go."
"That's not possible."
"So I'm a liar? So it didn't bow its head to me out of gratitude for not killing it?"
He shook his head.
"Think about it. Maybe not all of them are bad. Maybe they are just trying to survive just like we are. They aren't doing anything that they aren't programmed to be doing. I think that sounds familiar, oh wait, we are doing the same god damn things Kyree."
"We are human Tori. They are created to kill."
"And we aren't? We aren't created to make life, take it, then die ourselves?"
He scoffed then walked away. I went to the bed room and lied on the bed. I took a few deep breaths and calmed myself down because I needed to think about what had just happened. I stayed in there for a while before there was a knock at the door. I could tell it was Kyree from how gentle the knock was.
I got up and opened the door for him before getting back onto the bed. I started taking my shoes off and he just watched me. He took a breath then shook his head.
"What exactly happened out there?"
I scoffed.
"I went out there to kill them because they were moving fast at us. I fired twice and one of them stopped but the gun made the other one come after me faster. I killed the one that was going to attack me but the other, it seemed like it knew me. That it didn't have the desire to kill me but was scared and angry. But it was scared of me, not angry at me."
He nodded his head.
"I could tell that it wasn't going to come back so I let it go and warned it. If it comes back, I'll kill it. But if it doesn't, I'll be surprised."
He nodded his head. He started changing then he got into bed. He pulled me into his lap and started rubbing my back and hips trying to get me to calm down and relax. He started drifting asleep while he was rubbing on me but I wasn't. Once he was asleep, I got up quietly and changed. I put on a pair of leggings and a hoodie then some running shoes.
I walked through the back door and started walking through the alley. I went to the garden and I immediately started feeling calmer. I took a few deep breaths then I kept walking. I saw all of the different plants that we were growing and the different flowers that were already there. I kept walking until I got to the farm and I saw that all of the animals were asleep too.
Everyone in our town was at peace and asleep right now. Besides me and the people that were working the wall. I decided that I was going to go talk to one of them but as I was walking to one of the posts, I saw that the person guarding the gate was talking with someone that I didn't recognize. I walked over there and that person had a huge group with them and they looked official.
"Can I help you sir?"
"Yes, I'm looking for the leader."
"Well I'm one of them so how can I help you?"
"A teenage girl cannot be in charge."
I was cut off by the guard.
"She's done more for this community than anyone else has. She is the leader but doesn't want to take the credit for it. She saved every life that is here."
The man nodded his head then looked at me.
"We are here to run testing to make sure that the people here, are human."
"We have our own testing that we run."
"I understand that. But the testing that we are doing, is finding people with a certain strain of DNA that we can help them unlock and control to help save others and kill these creatures."
I nodded my head.
"Right now all of my people are asleep. I will take you to a location to drop off your weapons as a security and take you to a few houses so your people can also sleep for the night."
He nodded his head.
"We need to run our test on you people. Just so we are all on the same page."
"That's fine."
He took his gun out of the holster and handed it to me. I nodded my head then we started running the testing. Once we made sure that everyone was okay, I brought them to the blacksmith shop and they dropped off their weapons there. I brought them to a separate part of the town that I knew no one was staying at and let them go into their houses.
"I'll be back later in the morning with breakfast for all of your people so you can eat a good meal. Then after my town has our already scheduled meeting, I'll bring up the testing then you can get started around one in the afternoon. Is that alright with you?"
"That sounds perfect. Thank you for being so kind to all of us."
"Not a problem. We created this town to keep people safe, why would I turn people down?"
He chuckled then nodded his head at me. I started walking towards the house when I saw Kyree dead sprinting towards me. He scooped me up in his arms and held me for a moment before putting me down.
"I thought something happened to you."
"I'm fine. I needed to walk and clear my head then I saw that we had new arrivals so I greeted them and brought them to a few of the houses to sleep."
He nodded his head then we went back to the house. I changed out of my clothes and into a pair of shorts and one of his shirts and he took his shirt and shoes off. We got back into bed and he rolled on top of me.
"You're not going anywhere now."
I started laughing.
"You think that I can't roll you over in your sleep? You're a very deep sleeper sir."
He sat up and looked at me.
"So you just leave and go do whatever while I'm asleep?"
He started pouting and I laughed. I kissed him softly then he tucked his head under my shirt and rubbed my hips, stomach, and thighs while I rubbed his head, neck, and shoulders. He fell asleep then I did slowly. I woke up before he did so I softly started rubbing his head to wake him up.
"Baby, it's time to get up."
He grunted at me then hovered over me. He gave me a kissed then got up and changed. I soon got up and went to the kitchen and started cooking breakfast for everyone. I made pancakes, sausage, and eggs for everyone. I used three boxes of mix, two full cartons, and three packages of sausage. I was making plates when Kyree came down.
"What're you doing?"
"I'm making breakfast for everyone and packing it up. Can you grab me a few boxes?"
"Yeah, I'll help you too."
"Thank you baby."
"Of course."
He came around and kissed my forehead then went to go find a few boxes for me. I finished making plates then we started wrapping up the plates and putting them in the boxes. I finished a lot then I ran to the room and changed in to a pair of black jeans and a deep forest green tee-shirt then my combat boots. We finished making everything then brought it to Daniels house. I knocked at the door and he immediately opened the door.
"Good morning. We brought breakfast like I promised."
"Thank you and good morning to the both of you."
We walked in and brought everything to the kitchen. We started setting up then I saw Daniel standing there thinking about if he should help.
"Kyree, that's Daniel, he's the leader of his group. Daniel, this is Kyree, my second hand and my boyfriend."
They shook hands then Daniel started grabbing plates and setting them on the table. Kyree looked at him then had a questioning look on his face.
"So what exactly are you testing for?"
"We are testing for a strand of DNA in your genetic gene pool to see if you have abilities that can be helpful to the government to take out these creatures."
I looked at Kyree and the both of us looked very confused.
"What kind of DNA?"
"Supernatural."
I started laughing but Daniels face and attitude didn't change.
"You're being serious?"
"I am. I'm a warlock, I can control energy and waves. I can also ride waves, mainly brain waves."
"How? I don't believe you."
He nodded him head then looked deep into my eyes.
"You have some very strong walls and locks in your brain to lock away your pain. But would you like me to tell Kyree here about how you got that scar on your hand?"
My eyes got wide and I could tell that he wasn't bluffing. Kyree grabbed my hand and saw what he was talking about.
"Tori, what is he talking about? Do you know him?"
"It's a story for a different time and no, I've never met him and no one knows that story. Not even my brother."
I kept staring at Daniel and the lights flickered on. I looked around the room and I saw that everything was slowly coming on.
"How?"
He chuckled then he raised his hand and the entire house lit up brightly. With a snap of his fingers, everything turned off all at the same time. I stood there for a moment and I didn't know how to react. I looked over at Kyree seemed to have the same reaction that I was.
"Now that you know, I am going to explain everything further later before we do the testing and we are going to show a few examples."
I nodded my head.
"Is everyone in your group the same? Does anyone have a special diet or something?"
He started laughing.
"Yes everyone in my group is also supernatural and none of us have some weird diet. We all eat like normal still."
I nodded my head and chuckled. He called for his people and they came inside and started filing into a line and got their plate and went to go eat. Once everyone had their food, they thanked us. We went to leave but I heard someone call my name.
"Tori, can we talk for a moment?"
I looked at Kyree and he nodded his head. He took the box from me and kissed me. Daniel and I started walking to the garden and it was silent for a while before either of us said anything.
"I know you have many questions."
"How'd you know about my scar? I didn't shake your hand with my left hand."
"You opened your mind to me. Not willingly, I had to force my way into your brain."
"Find anything you liked?"
"No. I didn't look through anything. Your mind is dark and hurt. You have a lot of trauma that you mask away and it's doing nothing but hurting you. You need to talk about it."
"I can't. I have to be strong for all of these people. They are depending on me to be the strong one. I am the person that they turn to when they need something to support them. The person that they look to when they need help. I am that person."
"I know. Believe me, I was in your mind for a short period of time and I could see everything. I could see how strong you are for all of these people. But you need to talk to Kyree."
I took a breath.
"Speaking of him, is he supernatural?"
"I can't answer that."
"Am I?"
"Yes, and we both know that you already knew that answer."
"I just needed confirmation. I know that I am a hereditary witch but I need to know if that's right."
"You are but you feel stronger than that. Maybe you're either a strong witch, or you're not a witch at all but something stronger in whole."
I nodded my head. I looked around.
"Can you do other things?"
"I'm not allowed to show it in public. Me just messing with the electricity to prove to you I wasn't lying, was more than what I'm supposed to do."
I nodded my head. I took a breath and cleared my mind. I stopped in my tracks and he turned around and stood in front of me.
"What're you doing?"
"Watch me."
He nodded his head then looked into my eyes. He could see that my mind was empty. I pictured the wind flowing through the flower and it being windy. I could feel it start to pick up. I watched his eyes and how they studied mine. He looked around and saw that it started getting cloudy and windy.
"You're doing this?"
"Yes."
"How long have you been able to do this?"
"A few years."
He nodded his head. He closed his eyes then when he opened them, they were silver. I could see the energy flowing through him then there was lightning to the cloudy I made.
"Our strength matches together. I can tell that since you have barely touched your power, you can do a lot more than just this. You are possibly the strongest witch I have encountered."
"How many supernaturals have you found?"
"My group now you. We just started searching."
"Do you think that I'm a supernatural, that my brother is too?"
"If you are, he either is as strong as you are, or he's not supernatural at all. With sibling genetics, it's typically passed to only one child, not both. But there have been cases where there are sibling supernaturals."
"Okay."
"But with how strong you are, he more than likely isn't. Meaning you're going to have to leave him here."
"Wait, what?"
"We have to take you and whoever else is supernatural, to the training base to show you how to control you powers."
"I have to leave my brother?"
I started tearing up.
"I'm not leaving him. I can't."
"You have to Tori. You can't watch over him his whole life."
"He's only fifteen! I'm only seventeen! I can't leave him, I refuse!"
"You have to Tori! It's for his safety! You will become dangerous very soon if you don't know how to control it!"
I shook my head and went to walk away.
"Tori, you can't run from this. You have to leave him here. He will control things here."
"He's not like me. He is not a leader, he's not supernatural, nothing. My brother and I are nothing alike. I'm leaving someone else in charge."
"Do what you need to do. But you have to come with us and he has to stay."
"That's if he's not."
"I'm more than willing to put anything on the line, that he's not."
I took a shaky breath. I turned and saw Kyree and Hunter running towards us with the biggest smiles on their faces.
"Well? What happened?"
Kyree picked me up while Hunter cheered. I started laughing.
"We won! You get to stay and we nominated you to be in charge!"
I Looked at Daniel then smiled at them. The four of us started walking towards the Church and I saw that Daniels people started setting up their testing. I looked around at my people and I could see how confused they truly were.
"Everyone listen up!"
