Chapter1:The Man Who Left and the Man Who Stayed
Mia Carter never believed in fate.
She had spent too many nights convincing herself that love was a choice, not some cosmic accident. Yet, as she sat in the dimly lit restaurant, her heart betrayed her with a painful, familiar ache.
Across from her sat Adrian Sinclair—her lover, her savior, and the man who had given her everything. The flickering candlelight reflected in his cold, steel-gray eyes as he reached for her hand, his touch possessive.
“You seem distracted,” Adrian noted, his deep voice slicing through the elegant ambiance of the private dining room.
Mia forced a smile. “Just tired.”
It was a lie. Her mind was miles away, trapped in a memory she had spent years burying—the night Liam Hayes left. The boy who once promised her forever had disappeared without a trace, leaving her with nothing but heartbreak and unanswered questions.
She should have moved on. She had moved on. Adrian had made sure of that.
But fate, cruel and twisted, had other plans.
As Adrian continued talking about an upcoming gala, Mia’s phone buzzed. A text. She glanced down, and for a moment, the world stopped.
Unknown Number: We need to talk, Mia. It’s me—Liam.
Her breath hitched.
“Mia?” Adrian’s voice was sharp now, pulling her back.
She quickly locked her phone, swallowing hard. “Sorry… just a work message.”
Adrian studied her, suspicion flickering in his gaze. “I hope it’s nothing that will take you away from me.”
She forced a laugh, but her heart pounded against her ribs.
Because for the first time in years, she wasn’t sure if she belonged to Adrian.
Or if she had ever stopped belonging to Liam.
