Mia lowered her gaze, letting a heavy silence settle between them. Adrian watched her closely, searching for cracks in her defiance. She knew better than to give him satisfaction too quickly. A game like this had to be played carefully. She exhaled, her voice barely above a whisper. “What… happens now?” Adrian smirked, pleased by her hesitation. “Now, we rebuild what was broken.” He stepped closer, his fingers brushing against her arm. “I’ll take care of you, like I always have.” Mia forced herself not to recoil. “And Liam?” Adrian’s expression darkened. “Liam is irrelevant.” He reached for his drink again, swirling the glass as if contemplating something. “If he stays away, he’ll live. If he tries to come for you…” He trailed off, his meaning clear. Mia’s hands clenched at her sides.
