Untitled Episode
Hoseok and Yoongi have been married for 10 years, and those years made their love for each other so strong. They lived happily together despite the fact that they had no children.  Everything was good, until one day, Yoongi went into a rage. Throwing everything he sees in their room, screaming.  "I'm f****d up! I wanna die!" Hoseok ran towards their shared room. "Yoongi-yah! Please open the door!"  Hoseok was clueless what was the reason why his lover was acting like that. The door was locked, and Hoseok was helplessly knocking on the door.  "Honey, open the door for goodness sake!" He hurriedly got the keys and managed to open the door.  Yoongi was holding a broken shard of glass, attempting to stab himself.  "Yoongi! Don't do this!" Hoseok quickly hugged him from behind, trying to make him calm down.  "H-honey, please calm down..don't do this," he said between his sobs. But Yoongi was shrugging off his embrace. He tries his best not to loosen his hold. After a moment, he dropped the sharp object and broke into tears. Both of them cried while hugging each other. "Why am I like this? Why?!"  "It's alright honey. Hoseokie up is here for you." The truth, Yoongi consulted a doctor due to him being that forgetful at times, his unsual mood swings and depression.  He was diagnosed with Huntington's Disease. A brain disorder caused by a defective gene. It affects thinking skills, frequent irritability, depression, and worse, involuntary movements. Yoongi tore apart. He knew he'd be useless because of his disease. He chose not to tell his husband about it. The next day, Hoseok woke up early. He looked for a piece of paper and left a note on the desk beside the bed. Yoongi was still peacefully sleeping. "Honey, I'll just go buy some groceries. Eat your breakfast, okay?                           - Hobi" The truth, what happened last night bothers him until now. He wore his coat and went on his way to the store. Yoongi woke up, feeling a little bit better. His cat's eyes were still sleepy but he quickly noticed the note on the side table. It made him smile. He went to the kitchen and was surprised because there was already food served. It was the first time Hoseok cooked for breakfast since Yoongi had been the one doing it every morning. "I love him so much," he mumbled and grabbed a bite of the pancake. Minutes later, Hoseok arrived.  "I'm home!" Yoongi walked towards the door, and his lover's bright smile met his eyes. He hurriedly pulled him close for a hug. "I love you, Hoseokie," he whispered. Surprised, Hoseok hugged him back. "I love you more honey," he said. "But what was that for?" "Nothing. I just want to. And besides, you made my breakfast too," Yoongi replied.  He pulled him to the living room where the piano was. Yoongi motioned Hoseok to sit beside him. He started to touch the keys and a familiar melody sounded in the room. "It's Butterfly, your favorite," Yoongi told him. "It is," Hoseok smiled as he stared lovingly at his husband, playing the piano. "I want you to play this for me sometime." "But honey, I'm not that good at playing the piano." Yoongi grabbed his hands, leading him to press the keys.  "You have to learn how to play it honey," he said. "Besides, I'm starting to kinda forget the keys." "Why is that?" "I don't know," Yoongi laughed. They were almost in the middle of the song when Yoongi's hands started to shake. "Are you okay honey?" Hoseok asked him. Yoongi plastered a smile on his lips.  "Yeah, honey. Probably, my hands are just..tired," he reasoned. "You sure? Maybe we should--" "I told you I'm fine, okay!" he yelled. Hoseok stood shocked. His eyes were almost watery. Hoseok was really soft. Just a yell at him could make him cry. Yoongi realized what he had done. He hugged Hoseok. "I'm sorry honey," he told him as he pats his head. "I didn't mean to raise my voice." "I know honey. It's my fault, I shouldn't have asked you so many questions to annoy you," Hoseok sobs. Weeks passed, Hoseok noticed the frequent mood swings of his partner. And also him being forgetful, like one time. He was looking for his pen everywhere that was just on his desk. He was bothered. He knows something is wrong. He went to a doctor to consult about Yoongi's situation. He mentioned the things he observed. "From the things you told me, your partner has Huntington's Disease," the doctor remarked. "Huntington's Disease? Is it really bad? Is there any treatment?" Hoseok asked eagerly. "There's available medication and also therapies. But most of the time, medicine doesn't really cure at all. They can only extend the life of the patient. Mr. Min, you must bring along your husband so we can check on him."  "But that would be the problem, doc. Yoongi might not agree with that," he said. He left the clinic. He felt his legs getting weak. His vision was getting blurry because of the tears escaping from his eyes. He arrived home, eyes sore from crying. Yoongi was asleep on the couch with a notebook in his hand.  He leaned to give a kiss on his lips. Yoongi opened his eyes.  "Jimin-ah? You're home," Yoongi said. Hoseok's heart ached.  "Jimin?" Hoseok asked. "Yeah. Jimin-ssi I missed you," he said, and pulled Hoseok for a hug. Why does Yoongi call him by the name of his ex-lover, Park Jimin? "I missed you too," Hoseok managed to answer. "You must be hungry. I have already prepared your favorite dish," he said as he showed his gummy smile. It slightly relieved the pain. No, not that much. They sat on the table. There were Kimchi and ramen. It's not the Seaweed soup that is Hoseok's favorite. Regardless, Hoseok ate the meal. Yoongi looks happy today. But Hoseok tries to hide how he wants to cry because of Yoongi's condition and how his husband slowly forgets him. They finished eating supper. Hoseok did the dishes while Yoongi sat on the couch, writing something in the notebook. "Hoseok-ah?" he called. Hoseok felt relieved.  "When did we first meet?" he asked. Hoseok sat beside him.  "Hon, it's December 24, 2010," Hoseok said. "I first saw you wearing only boxers. I was really flustered but I can't show you," he laughed. Yoongi blushed and pasted a shy smile. "I did?" he asked. "You did, hon. In the new year, you travel all the way from Daegu to give me chicken. " Hoseok held Yoongi's hand. "And from that day, I fell inlove with you." Yoongi looked at him full of love. "Hoseok-ah. Every moment that I'm with you is worth remembering. I'll treasure every memory I have with you," said Yoongi. He continued to write in the notebook. They've been together for a long time. They've been through joy and hard times. Seeing how Yoongi slowly forgets it pains him a lot. -------------------------------------------------------- Yoongi fell asleep on the couch. Hoseok didn't bother to wake him up. He placed a soft blanket over him. He sat beside the piano. He tries to remember the keys that Yoongi taught him. He played slowly, and following the original tempo of the song. He closed his eyes. His fingers ran smoothly across the keys. A tear escaped from his eye. Yoongi would suffer from this illness. Not now but soon. Hoseok was awakened by the light from the window pane. He felt his arms wrapped around his waist. It was Yoongi, who was already awake. "Hoseokie, wake up. Today is the day," Yoongi said in his morning voice. "Hmm? Today is the day? What do you mean hon?" Hoseok asked, eyes half closed. "It's our wedding anniversary! Remember?" Yoongi exclaimed. Hoseok took a glance at the calendar. September 25.  "No honey. It's on May 23," he corrected. "How is it possible?" Yoongi asked. "Oh, I think I'm wrong. Sorry honey." He sat on the other side of the bed. Hoseok knew Yoongi was feeling bad. So he had an idea. He didn't want him to feel disappointed. "But I guess you're right. It's today. Happy anniversary honey!" he exclaimed. Yoongi looked back at him, smiling.  "I thought you already forgot it," Yoongi pouted. I didn't hon. You did. Hoseok said to himself. They went to the park. Holding hands, they walked the streets of Seoul. It was a perfect autumn morning. They were seated on a bench. "I'll just go get some ice cream," Yoongi said. Hoseok had already made up his mind. He can't afford to lose him. No, not now. He must convince Yoongi to get medical treatment.  Meanwhile, Yoongi picked vanilla and chocolate ice cream. The vendor gave him the ice cream. Before he could grab it, his hands were shaking. "Sir, are you alright?" the vendor asked him. "Uh, yeah..I'm fine," he replied and tried to control his unintentional movement. He walked back to the bench. His hands were still moving. Too bad that he loosened the grip on the ice cream, causing it to fall. "s**t," he cursed under his breath.  He's panicking. He can't control the movements of his hands. His vision starts to be blurry. His knees were getting weak causing him to lose balance. His body fell with a thump on the autumn leaf-covered ground. "Yoongi!!" he heard Hoseok's voice before losing consciousness. He woke up in the hospital bed. His head was also moving in a quick, strange way.  His eyes met a teary-eyed Hoseok.  "What happ-happened to m-me?" he stutters as his head moves. "Why a-am I moving like that?!"  Hoseok approached him. "It's okay honey, don't worry," he tries to make Yoongi calm down. "N-No! f**k t-this illness! I-I'm already useless!" he yelled. Yoongi tries to move but he can't. He's getting pissed off at his current situation. "Why d-does this haveto happen t-to me?! Out o-of all people, w-why me?!" he cried, helplessly kicking his blanket. Hoseok hugs him tight, crying. September 25, 2020 And today marks the start of the burden of Huntington's disease on Yoongi and Hoseok. November 2020 The disease changed that fast.  In just two months, Yoongi became worse.  His nicely-plump body turned thin. His pale skin turned paler. His cheerful face turned lifeless. He could be mistaken as a corpse. He became more violent. He constantly looks for Jimin, and forgets who Hoseok was in his life. Hoseok also suffered a lot. Burden of taking care of Yoongi, who sulks every time. Hoseok was feeding him some soup. "Honey, open up and eat this," he told Yoongi while motioning the spoon near his mouth. Yoongi looked away. "Honey, please. You need to eat this," he pleaded. Being irritant, Yoongi hit the bowl of soup, causing it to spill on the floor. "S-Stop calling me "honey"! You're not Ji-Jimin! And g-get the hell off me!" Yoongi yelled. "For f***s sake, Min Yoongi! I'm already tired to be honest! All the time you sulk and yell at me, complain, and look for that f*****g Park Jimin who left you for a girl. It doesn't hurt that much. What hurts more is that you totally forgot who I was, what we are! I want to give up, but I love you way too much. Do you think you're the only one who suffers? Me! I do suffer too! Seeing you like this kills me all the time!" Hoseok cried. He fell on his knees as he finished venting out his pains. He walked out of the room.  In the hallway, he punched the wall. Causing his hands to bleed profusely. He cried hard. He fiddled on his phone to call someone.  Kim Seokjin. "Huyung..selepas help me. I can't take this anymore. I'm here in the hospital. Okay, see you then," he said. He waited for about 10 minutes and a black car stopped in front of him. The driver went out of the car. "Are you alright?" Seokjin, the man driving the car asked him. "Hyung," he hugged the elder and cried in his arms. "Where's Yoongi? What happened?" thd wide-shouldered man asked. "Hyung, please talk to him. I don't think he'll listen to me. He doesn't remember who I am. But you, he remember you. Please hyung," the younger pleaded. "Take me to his room then," Seokjin replied. Hoseok led the elder to his room.  "Don't worry Hoseok, I'll talk to him," Seokjin assured him. He waited outside the room. "Min Yoongi," Seokjin greeted the younger one in the hospital bed. "J-Jin hyung! How are you? Wh-where is Jimin?" he asked. "Yoongi, look at you. I barely recognized you. You look different," the elder remarked. "T-The Huntington s-s**t turned m-me useless. And that b-brown haired man w-who keeps calling me his hu-husband is an-annoying," he replied. His head moving on one side. "Bro, that man was the only person who takes courage and patience to take care of you. Man, if I were the one taking care of you, I probably had hitted you with my pan," he laughed. "But seriously. Yoongi, you must value him for staying by your side even now you're in your worst. You must be thankful that he's here. He was a great part of your life, but only that you can't remember who he is. Your mind can forget, but your heart will never."  Yoongi was silent.  "Anyway, I just dropped by to check on you. Goodbye bro," Seokjin said. "Get well. We're gonna drink rice wine once you're back." He went out of the room. "Hoseokie, please don't give up on him. I know you love him so much so please stay by his side," Seokjin reminded the younger. "I will hyung. Thank you so much," he replied.  Seokjin patted his shoulder and left. December 18, 2020 3 months of stay in the hospital had them drained. Emotionally, financially and physically. Yoongi's hard earned money were almost all used up for his treatment. Hoseok was doing part-time jobs during day time. Hoseok looks older. Not suitable for an average 37 year old man. He was busy cleaning the room. "Jung Hoseok," Yoongi called him. Atleast he knows my name, Hoseok told himself. "I-I want to g-go home n-now," he said. "You want to? " Hoseok was surprised. "I'm s-sick of st-staying here," Yoongi added. "Alright then, I'll tell the doctor," Hoseok replied. The next day, Hoseok talked to Yoongi's doctor. "Hoseok, your husband's doing good lately. But I have a bad news. Yoongi only got a month left to live." Hoseok smiled bitterly. "But you said he's doing fine. I trust Yoongi. He's strong and he'll get through this," he said.  "Well, let's not close the possibility of him to survive. But Mr. Min, be prepared." the doctor said. December 22, 2020 They are getting ready for Yoongi to be discharged. Hoseok was folding all of his clothes along with Yoongi's, neatly packing them in their bags. Yoongi was seated in the wheelchair, staring blankly on the window. "It's already winter," he said. "I missed how nice it f-feels to be out in the s-snow." Hoseok stood behind him. "Do you want to go out and feel the snow?" he asked. Yoongi simpered. "Fool. My h-hands are s-shaking. How am I--I supposed t-to feel it?"  "Then I'll give you a snowball. You can even throw it on me," Hoseok replied. He's trying to remind Yoongi of their hobby during winter. Snowball fight and making snowman. They hailed a taxi going back to their apartment. All the way home, Yoongi keeps looking at the snow-covered road. Yoongi was trying to remember something. He knew there is something significant about the winter and snow. It's Hoseok. They met in winter, and their love bloomed in winter. They arrived on the familiar cosy place. Home. The notebook was still lying on the table. Yoongi carefully lifted the pages with his trembling fingers. He ran his eyes through the pages. There were dates and events written in there. There were also photos of him and Hoseok. He looked at them until he reached the last page. "Hoseokie, I've been slowly losing my memory. And I'm sorry for that time I called you Jimin. I tend to be like this but even I lose all my memories, my heart will always remember you. I'll feel my heart beat. And I know if it would beat fast, then it's probably you." Yoongu just realized this. The man he kept on shouting at, the man he kept pushing away, was the man he truly loved. He felt guilt for all he had done. He now can remember him. He remembered Hoseok. His heart was racing at this moment. A tear escaped his eye. "Yoongi, you're room is ready," Hoseok remarked. He wiped his tear. Hoseok came to assist him to transfer on his bed. Hoseok tucked him with the blanket. Before he could leave, Yoongi called him. "Jung Hoseok. T-Thank you for everything."  Hoseok just smiled at him before leaving the room. Yoongi chose not to tell Hoseok yet. He'll tell him, soon. On the day they first met. Hoseok was almost getting to the point that he'll accept the fact that Yoongi will never remember him.  But still, he can't give up. He loves Yoongi that much. The next morning, Hoseok and Yoongi took a stroll in the Seoul city.  It was winter but the sun shines gently. Hoseok pushing the wheelchair slowly. The cold breeze made Yoongi sneeze. Hoseok immediately fixed Yoongi's scarf. "You'll get cold. Should we go back?" he asked. Yoongi stared at him. His heart was hoarding fast. "N-no. Let's just c-continue to walk," Yoongi replied. They walked until they reached the park. There were few kids, running around. Playing with the white snow. Hoseok knelt down to get a handful of snow. He rolled it into a ball. He handed the snowball to Yoongi. "Here," he motioned Yoongi. "Touch this. You said you missed the snow." Yoongi was a bit awkward but managed to reach out his hand. "I-it feels nice," he said lowly. "I know you missed it," Hoseok replied with a smile. That smile, the familiar sunshine that warms his heart. He nodded and smiled. "I think we should go get some delicious soup," Hoseok said.  They went to the restaurant they used to go. They ordered some beef soup and dumplings. "They look so tasty. Let's eat up before it turns cold." Hoseok took a spoonful of soup, about to feed Yoongi but he hesitated. He remembered the last time he attempted to spoon-feed him. Yoongi noticed it. "You must feed me or I'll die in hunger," he said plainly. "Oh, okay.." People were looking at them but Yoongi didn't cared. Hoseok felt awkward but he was partly happy. It was already 6 in the evening when they returned home. Yoongi went to bed already. Hoseok was left in the living room.  Staring at the piano. "I know he doesn't remember what day is it tomorrow," he sighed. He seated himself and played the piano. Yoongi was inside the room, and he can hear the familiar song, the melody they both used to play.  He can't help his tears to leak out of his eyes. Hands trembling, he still managed to write on the notebook. Hoseok in the other hand, also had his eyes misty. He's still holding on to the hope that Yoongi would still recognize him. He felt sleepy and slept on the couch. The next morning, Hoseok was awakened by the sound of the piano. And the melody of the song Butterfly was playing. And the person playing the piano was no other than his husband. The song ended. "Y-You played well last night. To m-my surprise I can a-also play t-that song," Yoongi started. Hoseok hurriedly hugged him tight. But he immediately pulled away. "I-I'm sorry Yoongi," he apologized. Yoongi didn't said a word. That night, Hoseok prepared something. He cooked Yoongi's favorite food for dinner. "Yoongi-ah. Look, I prepared your favorite," he smiled.  His lover smiled sweetly. His smile is still the same even his face changed a lot due to his sickness. He spoon-fed Yoongi, as usual. "It's de-delicious," Yoongi remarked. "I know you missed it. Like you've been fed with the same food in the hospital recently." After their supper, both of the are on the living room. "Hoseok-ah, can you play the piano for me?" Yoongi asked. "Of course," he replied.  "Can I sit beside you?" Hoseok felt a surge of joy in his heart. Both of them sitted facing the piano. Hoseok pressed the keys, playing the melody softly. "Hoseok-ah, I'm sorry for everything. You suffered a lot because of me. I'm sorry for forgetting you like that. I loved you all this years. And even my memories are erased, you remained in my heart," Yoongi confessed, not even stuttering. Hoseok was shocked. "Honey, can you remember me now?" he asked. Yoongi didn't said a word, he just pulled him for a hug. Hoseok cried in joy. "I love you Yoongi! I love you," he cried. "Honey? Can you play the piano again? I'm feeling sleepy already," Yoongi said. Hoseok played the melody again. Yoongi leaned his head on Hoseok's shoulder. Yoongi closed his eyes. The song was about to end. Yoongi held Hoseok's hand. "I love you Hoseok-ah," he whispered. His grasp on Hoseok's hand losen. Hoseok looked at Yoongi. His tears stolled from his eyes. Yoongi already slept, forever. "Yoongi-yah! Wake up!" he cried. But there is no response from the cold body leaning on his shoulder. There's no more Yoongi. There's no more beautiful melody. His moon was gone. Yoongi's body was cremated. Weeks after, Hoseok found the notebook where Yoongi used to write. There was a note on the cover. "Read the last page first." And he did. "Hoseok-ah, Sorry if I've dragged you along my situation. Because of me you suffered a lot. But don't worry, I'll be gone soon. When I'm gone, don't be too sad. I hate seeing my sunshine crying. I'm sorry too that I forgot it all. I'm sorry if I get to leave first, and I won't get to grow old with you. You are the best thing that ever happened to me Hoseok. Meeting you was destined for me. When I die, throw my ashes in the sea. Don't be too lonely when I'm gone. I left something for you. It's my gift for you. I kept it inside the box under our bed. Hoseokie, you are still young. You can still get married and have children too. I'll be missing your touch, your love, and everything about you. I'll be gone but I'll always be back on the time when we first met. I love you, Min Hoseok. I love you more than anyone else. In another life, we'll be together. —Yoongi" Hoseok found the box. Inside of it was a cassette tape. "Whenever you are sad, play this." Hoseok inserted the cassette on the player and pressed the play button. It was an audio recording of piano melody of Butterfly. And Yoongi recorded it for him. He broke into tears. Hoseok stood alone on the shore, staring blankly on the skyline between the sea and the sky. Cherishing the urn of ashes in his arms.  He opened the lid and poured the ashes in the waters. Just like what Yoongi wants. It was hard for him to live without him. But life goes on. Hoseok never loved anyone again. He grew old all alone in their apartment.  Until Hoseok's last breath, that beautiful melody kepy playing on his mind. A melody so beautiful, A melody of love.
