Delilah
The charismatic new neighbor visited us one day after I returned from work. He wore a red polo shirt and a tracksuit.
I saw him from my window as usual dressed up and leaving his room and I wondered about where he was going until I heard the doorbell ring.
My sister went down to check who it was and after a while, she began to call on me but I refused to respond.
Why was she calling? And who was at the door? Oh please! Let me be! I thought and sighed, turning around to sleep.
I was really tired from the day's work and wasn't expecting to be bothered.
My doorknob started to make uneasy sounds, then something no someone stepped into my room and walked up to my bed.
"The new neighbor wants to meet with you don't keep him waiting."
What?
The statement sank right into me and I wriggled like an eel popping out my eyes at my sister in disbelief, my heart pounding deeply.
Damn! I heard Dorothy telling me that the handsome neighbor wanted to meet me. Was I dreaming?
I got up from my bed and instantly my sister was gone. I searched his room from my window and truly he was not in there.
He must have noticed I was always staring that was why he came. Such a burning shame! I walked into my flip-flops and took off my gown.
I went to my wardrobe and pulled out a pair of red shorts and a T-shirt that stopped at the top of my navel revealing my flat, hairy tummy.
I nearly emptied the content of the strawberry deodorant on my body. I knew this was an opportunity to entice him if I had to.
The new neighbor wants to meet with you. Wow, the sound of that! Once I get there,
I would whirl so he would see my big butts. Yes, they were big!
I stepped out hurriedly and bumped into my sister carrying an amused face, she bore a heart wrecking news.
"He's gone he said he made a mistake, he was looking for Delilah in the next flat and not you."
I frowned. I was the only Delilah in Doe street though I was uncertain. I felt my heart cracking, it was cracking.
I felt hot tears forming in my eyes.
This guy was a temptation! He was hell-sent. Mom started to call my name, she came over and shook me.
My eyes twitched open then I woke up and stared silently, mom was smiling.
What was all that about? "Mom was the new neighbor here?" I asked then she shook her head pitifully. "Were you dreaming?" She asked but I maintained silence.
This was a strange man trying to subjugate me. I was going to bounce into The Macdonalds and tame the bingo, afterward match up to meet him.
Then I would warn him no! I'd rather sing him a love poem, 'baby you captivate me, I can do nothing else other than daydream about you all day please can we be friends? Oh sorry, I'm Delilah how about you?'
Then he would look at me and wonder why such a fool was allowed into his house and I would look as stupid as a dummy applicant who could not answer any questions in an interview.
Afterwhich he would order me out of his house and strictly warn the gatekeeper never to let me in again.
I was going to do anything to have him as fast as I could.
Just then, I remembered my sister's friend Ella, who once lived in The Macdonalds too. I took a bath and got into my sexy red jumpsuit that separated my ass into two distinct puffy halves.
The V-shaped neck revealed the tops of my firm t**s. Then my red lip gloss, that same gloss that always caused Mr. Allan to get lost whenever he looked at me.
Mom was not back yet, I told my little sister I was stepping out. She gave me a knowing smile. I wondered why.
Perhaps that crazy smile was about my dress, she had not seen big sister dressed in such in a long while but big sister was out on a mission now.
I strolled to The Macdonalds first wooden gate and gave a still knock and waited.
When I heard nothing, I pushed it open and surged in. Bingo was not close but the place seemed unusually deserted, very quiet.
I managed to let my eyes settle everywhere as I surveyed the compound except for that window.
I frightfully hopped forward when I sensed the dog could be lying just by the gate because I heard rough scratches from the second larger gate that led to the glasshouse, and a very rough howl caused me to run up toward the outer staircase which was a bit further away from the walkway.
I slipped just when I'd got to the riser because I had suddenly become unstable.
I jerked and collapsed on the pieces of broken glasses packed by the landing of the stairs, even bingo had taken pity on me and stopped at the lawn to watch.
Blood began dripping down my leg. Fear gripped me when I heard the sounds of moving feet.
I patiently waited for the gatekeeper so I thought, I would first tender an apology for trespassing, then I would ask for a first aid kit.
I was in pain as I sat there on the stairs and stretched my leg, turning it to different positions to avoid too much flow of blood.
As the sound of the footsteps became more audible, proving the nearness of whoever was approaching. I hung my head and exhaled.
The clicking sound of the metallic lock and the gliding sound from the door as it flung open made me as nervous as I have never been then to my greatest surprise, the new neighbor stood by his doorstep already dressed up with his car keys in his hand.
He was surprised.
I gasped searching for breath out of shock, I was stunned to death. I didn't look up at his face, my eyes concentrated on my bleeding leg.
I bent over and stroked around the wound.
He began to get closer to me. His fragrance was deep and sensual.
I opened my mouth to check if I would be able to make any sound and when I did, I stuttered. "I'm so sorry I was heading to.."
He interrupted me when I tried to explain myself though I clearly had nothing to explain. I should have just shut my trap.
" No it's okay I'm sorry to have startled you, dear friend." I looked up slightly. Did he just call me dear friend? 'Dear friend wow' I ruminated over it.
"I can take care of your bleeding leg if you're not in a hurry." He finished.
How about his facial expression? I don't know what it conveyed maybe it was vague.
The barrel-chested wore a long-sleeved black Balenciaga polo shirt, a silver wristwatch, and a well-fitted denim trousers.
Something cold seemed to rush over my body but another thought struck me, that could be a regular name for any lady he came across.
Wait! Have I told you about the tempo of his voice? Deep, comforting, and melodic, it sounded like many voices from a male choir.
'I came here for you' I said in a whisper and then I slapped my running mouth. But I was glad he didn't hear me, he'd already turned away to the gate to open it.
When he returned, I looked up a bit more, he was a tall man. He was broader than I had presumed from my window I could barely believe I was standing with this Mr. Handsome.
My little sister must be cracking up from anywhere in the house, from the sitting room, her room, or the kitchen, apart from my room, those were the rooms facing The Macdonalds squarely.
I just knew she was somewhere watching. And she would pick on me for being a sluggard.
All I cared about now was never my bleeding leg I could bleed forever if I cared. I was lost standing close to this masculine figure standing right in front of me.
The outline of his biceps and triceps trailed visibly through the tight-fitted shirt.
He was like a bouncer. My thoughts traveled around and back then I replied.
"It's okay. Yes, we can." My eyes were still rambling the ground.
I could not look into his face, I still didn't get a clear picture of what he really looked like for the eyeglasses he wore but of a surety, this man to me was a perfect paradigm of a Mr. Right.
Then I looked up, he was smiling. Oh my God! What was that?
He knew it, he could now recognize the turgid face from the window always staring at him then and again.
I looked down with embarrassment. I felt his arm over my shoulder.
"Over there." He pointed to the garage. "Let's get to my car. Since I'm new in town I don't know where we can find a pharmacist."
I knew that already but I pretended as though I was seeing him for the first time.
I felt brand new sitting inside his car, relaxed, and intending to tour the mega streets of Broken Hill together.
He turned on the AC as he reversed the car. I was locked up in one position.
'Please take me to your bedroom, you have to love me, you must belong to me' I said all of these to myself and didn't realize he was talking to me until he tapped softly on my arm.
Did he hear what I just vomited?
I feared because I thought he heard me and might want me to repeat myself but felt better when he said something different.
"So dear friend I would love to know who you were looking for in that house." That touch, how it felt on my arm, I had to shut my eyelids so I could assimilate the depth of effect he carried.
He'd taken off the glasses now and yes! I was not wrong. He was a darling Romeo, God's creation and not his apprentice.
Oh! Not his angels I meant to say.
I wanted to tell him that if he could hug me alone, just a hug, the bleeding might stop.
But I answered his question instead. "My sister's girlfriend lives in there."
He quickly tilted his angular face towards me, his long chin, dark brows, and conspicuous eyes complimented his face.
He was looking at me in amusement, then he suddenly started laughing.
I shuddered in fear.
"I stay there alone, I bought the entire apartment permanently from The Macdonalds so dear friend that house now belongs to me."
'And how about the pretty women you normally welcome to your house each day?' I wondered.
"I'm sorry I didn't let you go to where you'd planned."
How ever that escaped from my mouth was a miracle because I had become stiff and incapable to move even when he pressed on the break from time to time when we got to the traffic point or when he slowed down because of another lazy ass driver at the front.
"No that's totally fine." He said turning to me.
I felt his flaming eyes staring at me in confusion.
He was certainly wondering what sort of lady I was. And that was the mistake I wanted to avoid but I missed it all, everything went extremely awry.
Just when we drove into the car park at Tembys Day & Night Pharmacy, he said.
" I'm Gerald Malcolm you are?"
A fleshly smile formed on my face. "Delilah Valentine," I muttered.
"A recap please I didn't hear you." Then I raised my face and met his wonderful berry eyes, dark and piercing. "I'm Delilah," I answered firmly.
