The Rogue Senator

“So tell me everything about our man. From his name to his background, I want you to tell me every single thing.” Tony said, grabbing a drink and cigarette from the table. Tony had instructed Gabriel and Olivia to do the tiresome task of pulling out any information they could get about their next target i.e. Senator Basheer. After taking up the whole day walking around government buildings and stealing their digital databases, they had finally made up a summary. And now they were about to present the fruit of their hard work. Frankly, it wasn’t too hard of a job to get information regarding the senator. You see, he was a man with big balls. He didn’t hide what he did, but his influence was so powerful that no one could dare cross him, or else…. “So he comes from a wealthy family. His ancestors were in politics for as long as documents can record. He is well known, not only in Baghdad, but in the whole f*****g country. The man is a f*****g godfather. Everyone knows about his ties with the terrorists, but the government can’t remove him from his position or the government would fall in the blink of an eye. He’s not a hard man to reach, but questioning him is impossible. You see, besides the security provided to him by the government, he maintains a private army of hard trained assassins from all over the world. He does NOT take his security lightly, and it is one of the reasons that several attempts have been made on his life, but not one of them was close enough. Killing him would be a challenge, but taking him alive to ask questions will be impossible.” Olivia said, handing out photos to support her statements. “Yeah, that’s what we said about the general. His security was tight too, but we figured out a way nevertheless.” Tony said, looking keenly at the photographs. “This is nothing like the incident with general! He had no idea what was coming to him, but this man has eyes all over the state. And the general confirmed that they have been watching us from the very start, so that rules out the element of surprise.” Gabriel interjected. “My point is that no matter how impossible the mission may seem, we will always find  way to get the job done.” Tony said and scratched his head. “I know we will, but this is going to be a close one. We have to assume that they will be watching us at all times and improvise accordingly.” Olivia said, sitting down while breathing deeply. “That’s the million dollar question. How do we kill the dragon which dosen't turn its back at us? If they don’t look away, they will know we’re coming from a mile away.” Gabriel said and stretched his neck. “As we have already decided, we will kidnap his daughter and summon him to answer our questions if he wants her to return with her head still in its place.” Tony said and shrugged his shoulders. “No boss, it’s not that simple. The girl told you that her father hated her and all that marriage crap, but the reality is just the opposite. She was never married, there is no kid, and her father loves her more than anything else in this world. Her security is even tighter than her father. The best of the assassins are assigned to her protection instead of her father. Some confidential documents state that when she went to meet you, the park was not filled with civilians. Instead, they were all assassins.” Gabriel said and nodded his head in disagreement. “f**k!” Tony said and thumped his fist on the poor table. “We have to figure something out. If we waste any more time, it might be too late.” Emma said. “Give me some time to think of something. You guy did some really great work today, go get some rest while I plan how to get out of this paradox.” Tony said and got up. “What up, kid?” Thomas said and stepped out of the portal. “I was a little confused about some things. We have an important mission to do, but there’s just no way to do it successfully.” Tony said. It was late in the night, and Thomas was standing on the roof, accompanied by Tony. Tony had a glass of whiskey in his hand and a bottle was sitting on the concrete railing. “Let me guess, you have to kill a bunch of innocents. Or better yet, someone has asked you to carry out an assassination in exchange for some vital information? Relax, it happens all the time. Just do what he asks and kill him afterwards.” Thomas said and waved his hand like he was talking about cutting grass in a lawn. “No no, it’s an entirely different thing. There’s this senator who we have to interrogate. He holds the most important information regarding the whereabouts of our agents.” Tony said slowly. “And the problem is….?” Thomas asked patiently. “The problem is that he is already on to us. From the moment we entered this city, his men have been watching us. We recently found this out from a trusted source.” Tony explained. “And how can you be sure that this source is trustworthy?” Thomas asked suspiciously. “Dying men don’t lie, Mr. White.” Tony said and smiled faintly. “Yeah, you are right about that one. So your problem is that he is watching you, and he will know before you make any move. But, does he know that you are aware of his little sting operation?” Thomas asked with a cunning smile on his lips. “I don’t think so, no!” Tony said with a little more energy, because he knew Thomas was getting to something. “Okay that’s your wild card in this wrestling match. You make him still feel in charge, while you plan to hit him. Don’t trust anyone, especially this hotel’s staff. There must be wires all over your rooms.” Thomas said. “Yes, we already scanned the rooms for wires when we entered the hotel. Also, there’s another thing.” Tony said, suddenly remembering the most important part of the conversation. “What would that be?” Thomas asked. “They have figured out a way to weaponize our technology. They have recruited small death squads and equipped them with the newly found technology. They are said to be capable of taking out whole battalions of government soldiers on their own. And it’s no surprise if they win the war soon after.” Tony said. “s**t’s getting serious, kid. I’ll tell you what, I will go after the senator myself. You will give me the necessary information to do the task. I’m only helping you this one time, because if you f**k this up, we don’t have another team to send to the rescue of you motherfuckers. It will be off the books, and you won’t mention it to your team. Got it?” Thomas said, getting his serious face on. Tony nodded in support. His tension was finally relieved, because Thomas was the only guy that could get the job done.
