As the elevator descended into the below-ground levels, Stone stood between Talia and the door, a position of protection, and kept his eye on the man. But an instant before the doors wafted open, Stone saw the man crunch his eyes shut and cover his ears.
Stone let out a guttural scream. “Talia, down!”
But it was too late. The elevator doors opened, and a small metal canister hit the floor. The burst of light and cacophonous boom erupted from it so quickly there wasn’t time to react.
Two men standing in front of the doors simultaneously fired Taser guns at Stone. Talia let out a blood-curdling scream as four dart-like electrodes slammed into Stone’s chest at 28,000 feet per second. They impaled the flesh and delivered an instantaneous dose of 1,200 volts each.
