Chapter 1
“I reject you, Nina Jones, as my mate.” He said coldly, leaving her heartbroken.
Those were the last words Nina had ever expected from her first love, Drew Jackson.
“Why? Because of Chase?”
Drew at first was shocked to hear the revelation come out from his mate's but became unbothered since she already knows about their affair.
“Well, now that you know, I don't need to further explain to you my reasons. And also, you're not fit to be my mate. Chase is, and she possesses everything I need in my woman, so I'm sorry that I have to break the news to you this way.” Silence fell on both of them as Nina was so heartbroken at Drew's constant words. She had prayed in her heart that he would deny the allegations and said that it was all a prank. That was what she hoped he would do, but yet, he did not.
“Why!? We can work this out, please.” She asked desperately. “I cannot lose you Drew, you're my mate and our wolf has accepted us.”
“That is the major reason I'm rejecting you, Nina. You're not fit for me, and you don't have a wolf and that is so embarrassing, especially on my end. Again, you're not even a member of this pack.”
“So is Chase,” Nina resorted.
“She is different,” Drew defended. “She's different from you, Nina. She makes me feel like myself again, like I'm the alpha though I've not been made one. But you, Nina, you're ju - just Stoic and you frustrate me. I cannot continue to pretend when the obvious is there. I'm sorry I cannot be your mate.” He said, showing how frustrated he was towards Nina.
“But one thing I can promise you is this, you'll continue to stay in Night Shadow. Because I rejected you doesn't mean I'll throw you out, so if anyone says otherwise, please disregard them.”
“My family would be disappointed in me if they found out I was with a wolfless girl. No, I can't bring shame on them. They've had enough of my troubles already, I can't add this to it.” He continues.
Nina saw her life shattered into pieces again, but this time it was with the man she loved so much and was ready to do anything for, and her best friend whom she cherished so much and called her family. It was a moment of truth and betrayal from the people she loved and that made her realize how blind and stupid she had been all along.
She continues to hear more ill words coming out from Drew, the one she loved and still in love with. Only if the moon goddess was kind to her and gave her her wolf on her eighteenth birthday like everyone did, even Chase. Maybe she would still be with Drew.
Now everything makes sense. When she heard from the maids about Chase and Drew being together, she did not want to believe it. They even made a mockery of her by saying hurtful words to her.
“Her best friend even knows that she doesn't have the chance of being Drew's Luna.” One maid said.
“Yes, in the end, she only used her to get close to Drew since he was her mate.” Another one said.
“I'm glad she won't be crowned the Luna of Night Shadow. I don't think I'd be able to survive it. I can't stand her.”
“She disgusts me.”
“I can't wait for her to be banished from this pack. She's not welcome here.”
She kept hearing more and more hurtful words from them, but didn't want to believe that her best friend whom she had been with since their childhood would do such a thing to her.
She sees her not only as a friend but as a family, shares her secrets and even the deepest ones. She was just about to tell her before Drew summoned her.
Nina Jones was an orphan and had no one since she was five years old. Her parents died while fighting a common enemy. Everyone in her pack ran for their lives, leaving her all alone with their worst enemies. When she was almost abducted, the Jackson family came right on time and rescued her from their enemy, the White Claws Pack. After defeating them once again, they decided to take her with them as she was still a little child. She was provided with shelter, water and food. Because of their good deeds, she decided to work for them as a sign of deep appreciation for them.
The Jackson's were known for being the wealthiest and the strongest pack in Night Shadow. Their great-great-grandfather, the strongest warrior, Liz Jackson, defeated and saved the people from the hands of their wicked Alpha, Von, the leader of the White Claws Pack, and thereby built their own pack. And from that day, they were feared greatly by everyone and every pack till date, until the White Claws decided to attack again after so many years of hiding. But once again, the Night Shadow Pack has proven to be the strongest as always.
She was looked down on and mocked by residents of Night Shadow, who saw her as a threat and a nobody, thereby making everyone around her desert her. The only person who was so kind enough to come close to her was Chase. She was glad that she had a friend who did not look down on her like the others, and they became so close, and they grew up together.
Ever since then, they have become best friends and Chase will always defend her from bullies. But now, she has learned the truth and needed an explanation from Chase.
Chase knew everything about her, from the day she started crushing on Drew to the first day they set eyes on each other. She also knew that he was her first love and told her about the moon goddess making them mates, but what she did not know was that Chase also loved the same man without her knowledge.
She was disappointed in herself and Chase and had wished that Chase was more honest than she looked.
Nina watched Drew leaving, no amount of pleading would bring them back. She thought he had the same feelings for her too, because of how compassionate he was towards her. But now, she realized that his intentions all this while were to be with Chase. No wonder she always tagged along on all their dates and outings. It was indeed a harsh reality for her that Drew withdrew their mate bond, signifying his lack of interest in her.
She began to cry so profusely and wished the ground were opened to swallow her up. Everywhere became so dark and cloudy that the rain began to fall heavily beating her body, but that didn't hurt her the way Drew had hurt her. She stood up and started to walk, not knowing where she was going. All that was on her mind was the betrayal she got from the people she loved.
Suddenly, she realized she had entered the forbidden land where no one was permitted to go. Out of fear, she tried to run, but unlucky for her, her legs were stuck, and she was about to fall when a hand grabbed her immediately.
