Episode 3 - My first shift Leesh's POV

Scarlet returned like she said she would with a temper as wild as a bear, she was frustrated and annoyed when she returned and as usual, I got the brunt end of it. I was in my room when Scarlet barged in and began hitting me, I tried to protect my body but it didn't work the more I tried to protect myself the more she swung at me. I yelled out “oh making noise just makes me hit you harder and more” she said

Scarlet finished and I then curled up in the corner. When I finally heard the door close, I unfolded myself I began tending to my wounds as best I could. I did begin to cry, why did Scarlet hate me so much? I was only a little girl and she had beaten me to the point of being scarred for life. What had I done to her? Why had my parents died? I crawled to my bed and managed to get on to it. Anna came up to find me.

“Leesh are you in here?” she asked as she walked through the door. My body was aching and my energy to move was spent. I had covered the wounds on my arms and legs with the cream Anna gave me and bandages from the first aid kit. Anna walked closer to me when she realized I was hurt.

"Oh, sweetheart did Scarlet get to you?” she asked

“Yeah, she must have had a horrible time away and I was the one she could take it out on” I said quietly.

“I am so sorry sweetheart you have to go through this" Anna said through the tears. I laid where I was and stayed quiet. A few weeks later I had healed, I avoided Scarlet and stayed in my room unless I was cleaning and doing my chores. Jake came up to see me and asked if I wanted to go outside but as long as Scarlet was around, I refused to leave the room.

2 years later ...

2 days and it's my birthday. I’m going to be 8, not that turning 8 was going to change anything happening to me. I had gotten beating after beating since I moved here and it wasn’t going to change. Last night I was Scarlet’s play thing something to be used for to entertainment her and her friends. Scarlet asked me to come down as she often had, but this time was different, this time her friend's joined in and began beating me as well as her. Scarlet had said to me crying or shouting out would make it worse. So, I learned to never uttered one sound as my already frail body took blow after blow. My body became numb and accustomed to it like It had always been normal. I turned numb and the pain was lessening. George and Allister were serving Scarlet and her friend's last night.

"you two take this worthless rat to her room and then return with more wine" Scarlet commanded. All that George and Allister could do was do her bidding.

"Yes ma'am" they answered in unison. If they were to challenge Scarlet, they would suffer themselves and they had families to protect and work for. George and Allister took hold of me they lifted me high enough so that my feet never dragged across the floor. Once we were out of sight, George carried me bridal style, Allister ran to get Anna.

"I'm so sorry leesh" he said holding back tears that threatened to fall.

"It's ok Georgie, it's not your fault" I reassured him, that's all we exchanged before I succumb to darkness. I woke up a few hours later, wrapped in bandages, bruises on my face with small swellings and cuts, wounds and bruises everywhere else on my body I couldn't move much, Anna had sent Jake up to keep me company.

Scarlet never relented with the beating’s and she made it so that even if I couldn’t do my chores, I’d get another beating. For Scarlet, I knew it made sense, she always won.

"Hi good looking, what's cooking?" Jake said to me, I turned my head towards him, he half smiled after he seen the state of my face. Seeing me beaten and bruised it made him angry but there wasn’t anything he could do.

"How are you feeling?" Jake asked me

"No more than usual I guess" I said,

"Mum, sent me to keep you company Scarlet has her running around ready for the moon goddess festival all the guests are here I've made friends with two boys my age, Axel and Luca" he said

I sat up on my bed, a few moans and groans escaped my lips,

"I forgot about the moon goddess festival; it's not something I need to worry about I'm staying in here away from everyone... what wait ... what are they like, what did you call them Axel and ..." I said

"Luca there ok I guess; we get on well, they are very close to each other and there nice with me ... I wanted to tell them about you, Axel is going to be the next Alpha to the Blue moon pack he hasn't shifted yet and Luca is his second in command his beta ...anyway if you could use some, I will keep you company sis" I looked confused at Jake,

"What's an Alpha, what do you mean pack?" I questioned. I'd never heard that before

Jake closed his eyes, as if he'd just given away secrets he shouldn't have.

"Forget what I said I've said too much already" he said

"Jake tell me?" I said sternly

"Ok but mum knows more about it, you should maybe ask her to" he said

"I will now tell me" I said

"Well, we are all wolves leesh?" he said, I was shocked when he told me

"What?!" I said looking confused again,

"Not the scary kind that only change on a full moon, and that want to kill you. You see we each have a wolf spirit in us that was given to us by the moon goddess. We don't shift until we are 16, but Alpha's or the ones next in line to be Alpha's can sometimes shift earlier, mum and dad are werewolf shifters too, as well as me, I haven't shifted yet so I don't have a wolf spirit, I'm too young" he told me

"So can I be one??" I asked

"No leesh, you have to be born as a werewolf," he said I felt disappointed that I wasn't one I wanted to be special like Jakey.

"Aww that's not fair" I said and folded my arms across my chest.

"Why don't you ask mum about it" he suggested.

"ok" I said I smiled and walked to the balcony, I winced and moaned on the way it wasn't as bad as it had been but it still hurt and it was good to feel the fresh air. We were both stood watching two boys play on the grass.

"It's ok Jakey if you want to go and be with Axel and Luca I don't mind" I said to him

"Maybe later I want to be here, I brought you some treats to help get your strength back and you have no fear of getting caught Scarlet is flirting and kissing ass" he said I giggled and gave Jake the biggest cuddle. I was starving I hadn't had anything to eat for 2 weeks Scarlets orders and she was checking my room every day, she was too busy to worry about me today.

"Thank you, Jakey," I said

"You're welcome" he smiled at me and watched me tuck into the various pastries, sandwiches and cakes they were only bite size but after the 3rd one I couldn't eat anymore.

"It's ok hide them you can eat them later when you're up to it" I nodded, smiled and put them back in the little box Jake brought them up in. Jake hid the box in the cupboard I had that had my clothes in.

"Hey leesh" Jake said

"Yeah Jake" I replied

"You know you are and only will be my best friend right I won't ever leave you on your own" he said

"I know Jakey and I'd never leave you; I'd miss you too much and everyone else" I said

we both hugged each other and laughed. Jake stayed with me for a little while, we colored and drew pictures, we laughed and talked. I managed to eat the other bites Jake had brought me. I was so grateful to him he was the best older brother I'd ever had; I loved him. I loved Anna, Billy and everyone else so much it made me feel that even though nothing was normal, and that I may have lost my parents but we were family.

A few hours later, Anna came up to see how we were doing,

"Hey, you two how are you doing?" Anna said as she walked in to my room

"Feeling, much better thank you. Your special cream is really good Anna; I'm almost healed look...?" I said, I had finally begun to feel normal Anna took a look at my body and removed the bandages, she was shocked but then smiled.

"You’re right my darling girl but I don't think it's my special cream it must be magic" she said, she brought me on to her lap and started tickling and kissing me all over. Jake joined in blowing raspberries on my belly after a moment or two they let me go,

"Anna" I said

"Yes, my darling," she answered

"Why are you and Jake werewolves and I'm not" I asked her

Anna looked at me shocked for a moment, she looked at Jake then at me,

“Well, my darling, your special you see," she said reassuring me

"How? Jakey said I'm not a werewolf like you" I asked her

"That's right darling you're not like us your even better" I looked at her so excited

"Am I an angel Anna!" I asked

"Yeah, you are sweetheart" she said

"Oh, yey Jakey I'm and Angel, do I have wings Anna?" I asked Anna and Jake were laughing at me as I danced around,

"Elisha sweetheart tomorrow do you think you could stay awake till really late for me" Anna asked me

"Ok what for" I asked

"Well, it's a surprise" Anna said

"Oh, oh, oh really! I can stay awake for that Anna yeah" I asked so excited to see what it was

"Ok, I am going to send Jake up to get you tomorrow and we are going to go into the woods so you can have your surprise we have to go into the woods away from Scarlet ok" Anna said I had the biggest grin on my face

"ok" I said

"Ok Little one be a good girl and stay here until tomorrow, come on Jake let's leave leesh before we get her into trouble and your friends have been asking for you" Anna said

"Night leesh love you" Jake said to me

"Love you to Jakey" I replied

Once they left I did exactly what Anna told me I stayed in my room until the next day, I was painting a picture when I heard Jakes voice from outside, I felt much better than last night so I walked out on to the balcony and watched as Jake and two boys who I assumed would be Axel and Luca the boys he told me about. I giggled as I watched them playing having fun, my smile faded when I realized I wanted to be down there with them and I knew I couldn't. I walked back into my room and found a few things to do while waiting for when Jake would come and get me later, it was hard staying awake so I decided I would nap so I wouldn't fall asleep getting my surprise for my birthday. I woke up to the sound of loud music I got up and washed my face, I was looking out at the moon when Jake burst through the door,

"Hey, sis I'm here are you ready?" Jake said

"Yeah, I'm ready let's go" we snuck down the back stairs down to the kitchen and out, using the shadows as our cover we could here and see hordes of people coming out of the house to go and sit by the lake, to watch the fireworks. Once we were in the forest we ran for about 10 minutes until we made it to a clearing, where Anna, Billy, George, Allister and Emily were waiting for us,

"Are we having a party Anna" I asked

"Not yet sweetheart, are you ok?" Anna said

"Yeah" I said Fireworks and cheers could be heard coming from the house. The moon light shone on me like I was a beacon, but I began to feel the most excruciating pain, I've ever felt worse than when Scarlet hit me. I yelled out, my left arm broke and cracked, changing shape and getting heavier as it grew, my right arm followed doing the same, with every crack and break I yelled out and gasped. I had never felt pain like it before. My hips broke changing shape and growing I yelled and screamed, as more of my bones broke and changed, lengthened and grew. My scream turned from a yell into a load roar. When the pain finally subsided, I lifted my hand or what was supposed to be my hand, which now had been replaced with a huge, white, soft, fluffy paw, as I stretched my toes out. Giant claws had begun to push their way out of their sockets. I tried to talk but couldn't talk in the human way anymore, I walked over to the lake edge, and looked at my reflection in the calm black water. I stared in shock, A crescent moon mark shone on my forehead, my eyes were still brown, except for the golden fleck that used to be there it had turned to silver and looked like glitter in my eye. I turned around, I towered over everyone, and I heard Anna.

‘Elisha sweetheart its ok stay calm ok’ Anna said in my mind. I began to panic a little, I turned my head to look at myself, as I turned, I seen the tips of what I could only assume were wings sprouting from my back. I spread and elongation my wings out like an Eagle, my wings were covered in scales that were covered in white fluffy fur. My body was covered in the same white soft fluffy fur as my wings in the moonlight my fur glowed. my tail was long and looked like a horse's tail, it was longer and pure white with specks of silver and blue ran through it as the moon shone upon it. What was happening? how is this possible? I panicked a little and began spinning round to try and get a better look at myself. Which only made Jake giggled at me, I was like a dog trying to chase my tail.

"I know you have lots of questions, and I hope I have the answers for you" Anna said to me. As I listened to Anna, I heard two other voices I had never heard before.

'Hi Leesh my name is Mimmo, I am your dragon spirit and I am Tyraa your wolf spirit we are one, do not be afraid we are here to guide you and protect you,’ the voices said

'What has happened to me? what am I?!' I asked

'We, are a Drawolf, part dragon, part wolf' Mimmo said

‘We, each have our own abilities but together we are the strongest" Tyraa said

I was looking around at everyone when a tear came from my eye.

'How do I become me again?' I asked Mimmo and Tyraa

'All you need to do is will yourself to be small again and we will all change we will still be here for you' Mimmo said

I began to change back the pain wasn’t as bad to change back as what it was to change into my Drawolf. When I was finally small again, Anna walked over to me to and hugged me.

"Anna how can I be a Drawolf?! how can I have two voices in my head, there confusing me" I asked Anna

"it's ok sweetheart they will be your best friends; they will always protect you, wait ... two you have two voices in your head?" she said

"Yes, Tyraa is my wolf spirit and Mimmo is my dragon spirit" I said to Anna, Anna and the others gasped.

"You have both?!" Anna asked me shocked that I had two spirits, I panicked

"Is that bad Anna?" I said looking worried

"No sweetheart it's not bad, you are stronger than we all thought that's all" Anna explained there was a pause everyone looked at me smiling.

"Ok Anna how did I get to be a Drawolf?" I asked Anna

“Ok sweetheart, your mummy is the daughter of the moon goddess and the dragon King, you are their granddaughter. Your daddy was the alpha of the starlight pack he was a werewolf. The Starlight pack was taken over by Scarlet, she hasn't looked after it very well there are not many members left. They left and luckily, they live in a little village up the road called Wray. They couldn’t stay having Scarlet lead them all she cares about is the money and the power not the pack or its members. They stayed in the village holding on to hope the true leader would come home. Billy, Jake and Myself along with Emily, George and Allister are part of the starlight pack we stayed to make sure we knew what was going on. Your parents left because you were in danger, you wore the mark of the Drawolf the moment you were born. They agreed to take you and hide you away until you were old enough but they disappeared and you were brought to Scarlet. No one in this world not even your parents knew how special and powerful you really are that is until you shifted tonight. You have so many special powers and gifts my darling, and we do not know them all right now. They will manifest themselves as you grow and become stronger. You have shifted very early, no werewolf nor dragon shift until they are 16 you are 8 years early, the advantage we have is that because you are under age, you can train and learn everything you need to know without anyone knowing, you can be hidden. Your parents didn't abandon their pack or you my darling you had to be protected you are the prophecy brought to keep the peace between the species and there are bad species that would seek to destroy everything to have power" Anna explained. My head was about to explode I had just been thrown in at the deep end.

'it's ok leesh we will be here for you; we know you are frightened' Tyraa said in my head.

‘No, I’m not frightened I just don’t want to disappoint anyone’ as I looked around at the familiar faces I had known since I came here.

"How are you feeling sweetheart" Anna asked me

"I'm not sure, it's a lot to take in but I don't feel frightened. Tyraa told me I don't need to be afraid, but I’m not afraid, I just don’t want to disappoint any of you' I said

I heard footsteps coming from behind Billy.

"leesh, this is Jack" he walked alongside Billy he was taller than Billy, he had a wide frame, he was full of muscles. Dressed in camouflaged pants, a green t-shirt and black boots, like the army wear. Jack had tattoos on his arms he had short brown hair, and deep Hazel eyes. I knew I could trust him; I sensed a loyal, trustworthy soul in him.

"He is a werewolf like all of us he spent a lot of time in the army, he will train you to fight, arm to arm combat, this will include weapons of your choice, he will push you in your human form as well as in your wolf form" Billy said,

"Hello my little king " Jack said, I giggled, I looked at Jack I knew that he wouldn’t hurt me.

"Hi Jack I'm not a king I’m a girl and call me leesh" I said

"leesh before we go anywhere Jack wants to make a promise to you and you have to accept" Billy said

"What's it for Billy?" I asked him, Billy looked at Jack, Billy nodded and Jack crouched down in front of me.

"Well little one your grandmother the moon goddess came to me in a dream and said I must protect you with everything I have so here I am" he said

"But do you want to do it Jack?" I asked him. Jack looked shocked at me for a moment as if I'd said something to offend him,

"I don't have a choice little one" he said to me

"Yes, you do... everyone has a choice Jack, I will only say yes, if you want to do it" I said to him, Jack smiled at me.

"Wow, little one you are far wiser beyond your years, it would be an honor to protect you," he said.

"Can you be another big brother Jack" I asked him, everyone laughed as they looked at me.

"Of course I can, are you ready to say yes to me" Jack asked me I nodded my head Jack stayed knelt in front of me and held both my hands.

"I Jack William Shepherd pledge to be loyal, faithful and the only protector to my Alpha and my King Elisha Ayla Willows, until my last breath" Jack said, I looked up to Billy. Billy nodded to me

"I Elisha Ayla Willows accept you Jack William shepherd as my protector, as I will protect you" I said we looked at each other Jack winked at me. I smiled and he gently lifted my hands to his mouth to kiss them.

"Elisha sweetheart, you will have to work really hard with Jack so you can be the strongest you can be, you think you could do that?" Anna asked, I nodded firmly I was determined to work with Jack and learn everything I needed to she smiled at me. The night carried on Anna, Billy, George, Allister and Emily all pledged their devotion to me. Jake couldn't do it yet because he was too young, so he made me a pinky promise, which I accepted

"Right little one you go back with Anna to the house and sleep, tomorrow we will begin training" Jack said

"Ok, but I have chores to do Jack I can’t leave Anna with them on her own" I said

“Ok, Little one, get your chores done and then come meet me back here?” Jack said

I nodded and smiled at him. Jack began to walk away further into the forest and the rest of us walked back to the house in hopes that none of us would be found and interrogated by Scarlet lucky for us we used the shadows and the guests had retired for the night or should I say morning. I got into bed and I fell fast asleep. Looking forward to when I would start my first training session.

I got up and got all of my chores done, I let Anna know where I was going. I snuck out of the house and met Jack in the woods where I had been early that morning shifting, something that now felt, foreign to me.

Jake walked with me and we headed to his cabin, it was further in to the forest. Jack began by telling me about the history of wolf shifters, about my grandmother the moon goddess and about my parents. I was like a sponge soaking in everything I needed to know, Jack and I may have discovered one of my abilities, eidetic memory I can take in and remember things.

"Right little one we must train you in your human form before we move on to your wolf or dragon" Jack said

"Ok Jack" I said

"This is what we will do first before anything else, if you can fight in your human form then as you grow and gain your powers you will become stronger. First hand to hand combat, there will be times little one that your weapons nor your Drawolf will be needed. You are strong on your own as well as with them, never underestimate yourself you are stronger and smarter than you think" Jack said

After my first day of training, I was very hungry and tired, Jack said that being part wolf I would be very hungry. I snuck into the kitchen on the way back to my room and grabbed a couple of things to eat, I couldn't be greedy, and put weight back on, nor could I afford to lose any more weight, I couldn't let Scarlet know my secret. I didn't trust her, I finally got to my room, I got washed and dressed in my very old pj's, as I laid in bed waiting for sleep to take me, I thought of how much I had learned about my family, how complete I felt having Mimmo and Tyraa with me, I didn't know what was to come next but I knew that whatever came next, I was willing and ready to face...
