Chapter 21 I let a few minutes lapse, standing in front of the window looking out across the campus. From there I could spy the front gatehouse that checked all visitors to the school in and out, and I kept my eyes fixed on its forest-green roof, waiting until I saw my parents’ car pull past the gatehouse and around the bend. Gone at last. My skin prickled. An end and a beginning, a new place to harbor me for the next year and a half until graduation. I’d have to do something about breaks and the summer vacation—either bear a few weeks back at home or let school trips or an internship be my excuse to not go back—but I could worry about that later. What mattered was that I’d made it here unscathed, no one the wiser of my discoveries save for Ryan. Hopefully he would drop the Avanic stuff,
