Three words.
Three stupid, impossible, reality, shattering words and suddenly the entire room felt too small, too tight, too suffocating. Everything was so blurry as I tried to contemplate it all.
I didn’t breathe, I didn't blink and nor did I even think.
My mind simply flat lined.
Jed’s face remained steady, unreadable, but there was something in his eyes , a quiet storm, a tension, a desperation he was fighting to control. For the first time since I’d known him, he looked… human. Like someone with something to lose. Or maybe I was just imagining things that didn't even exist to begin with.
But that only made it worse.
