~Arabella~ We stood in the elevator for about five minutes until we were finally at the top floor of the building. Just like I expected, it was where the office was. The architecture used up here was extremely different compared to all the interiors of the offices down in the building. Everything was very spectacular. It was clear the whole building was occupied by Kigongo Building Construction Company Limited. Like seriously, how filthy rich were these people? Mackenzie opened the door to a very gigantic office. It was oval in shape with a luxurious office chair and table neatly arranged at one end near the door. There were a few books, a laptop, and a tablet on the table. There was a very big couch on the other side of the oval office. Generally, everything in the office was perfectly organized. Surely, he was keen when it came to organization based on how everything looked. I was even afraid of standing on the floor of this marvelous office. How were people able to be this filthy rich? Back at home in the slums, this was something I never dreamt of seeing. Our main aim was to get something to eat , nothing else. “You are going to sit and wait for him there,” Mackenzie announced to me. What did she say? Was she being serious? How did she expect me to be here all by myself as I waited for that cold-hearted human being? I couldn’t even think of what he had in stock for me. For the little time I had been in his presence, there was nothing good I had heard coming from his mouth , yes, I was being sincere about it. I opened my mouth to say something, but nothing came out. What was I even supposed to say in the first place? “Don’t get afraid, he isn’t that bad a guy,” the middle-aged woman said, like she had just read my mind. What did she even mean? “Okay,” I answered singularly, without any interest at all. Mrs. Mackenzie walked out of the office and slowly closed the door behind her, which meant I was all alone in the office. My already fast-thundering heart began to thunder even harder at the thought of being here alone. The truth was, for the recent years, I had not been someone who easily got intimidated , but this guy had a special skill that made him capable of turning me into the mess I was right now. I gazed around the room, not knowing what to do. About thirty minutes later, I heard footsteps approaching the door. It was clearly not one pair. It sounded like two or more, but I wasn’t exactly sure. The footsteps were followed by murmurs as the doorknob turned. I looked eagerly to see who was about to walk into the office. Of course, I knew whom to expect. What I saw took me completely off guard and left me in total shock. There he was , him , entering the room, but he was not alone. That was what I had thought. He was with a woman in his arms. In brief, the two were kissing all over each other as they practically dragged themselves into the office. Not minding there was a person in here. I did not even know what to do. Should I just sit and watch the two of them make out? They continued kissing as they moved closer to me on the couch. From how the two were all over each other’s bodies, I could tell they were not aware of a third person in the room. “I need to breathe first,” the lady said, sounding seductively , yes, just like I had heard in movies. “Let us first have this done,” Jed said, sounding commanding ,definitely a man of command wanting to act all in order. That was what he was exactly . He placed his hands on her ass, lifting her into his arms and heading directly toward the couch. No , I needed to act now before they ended up on top of me. “Ehhmmm,” I feigned a cough, which made the lady jump out of his hold with all her might. She looked in my direction, her eyes extremely wide, while he didn’t look shocked at all. How was that even possible? “What is this?” the shocked woman exclaimed. “Who is she?” she added shock written on her face. The truth was, I had to prevent myself from bursting into uncontrollable laughter at how dramatic she was.She was a sight worthy a movie scene. Jed, on the other hand, was all composed like nothing had happened. He straightened his shirt and walked to sit in the main office chair. “Come on, she is just a nobody. Why do you have to mind her?” he said, completely unbothered. The woman, lost on what to do, fixed herself and angrily stormed to the door before slamming it behind her as she left the room. Damn it , I could not breathe now that we were the only two left in the room. There was a moment of silence that lasted for about ten full minutes before he finally began to speak , of course in his ever-insulting tongue. “So, you also got the chance to sit in such a luxurious place,” he said, incredibly unbothered. Of course, that was how he always was. I searched for what to answer, but in the end, I decided to just ignore him. It was better that way. “Won’t you say anything at all? Don’t forget I am the boss here,” he continued. But did he have to say it to my face over and over again? Of course I knew he was the boss , I did not need to be reminded. “Mrs. Mackenzie said I would wait for you here,” I finally responded, finding the right words. “Oh, I get you,” he said arrogantly, turning around in his seat. But why did God have to give such an arrogant man such a pretty face? He did not deserve it really. Hey, thanks for reading.
