THE BOY WHO CHANGED EVERYTHING
People often say you never forget your first love
I used to laugh whenever I heard those words.i believed life was too busy ,too complicated, and too unpredictable for anyone to hold on a single memory forever but i was wrong
Because no matter how many years have passed no matter how much I have grown one face still lives in quiet corners of my heart.
His name was Felix
He was my first love
The rain drummed softly against the roof as I stared out of classroom window watching students rush across the school compound with colorful umbrellas it was the first day of my final year in at Anne secondary school everything felt different
New teachers
New classmates
New expectations
My name is Olivia James and at seventeen I believed I had my entire life planned out my dream was simple graduate with excellent grades earn university scholarships and make my parents proud love was never part of the plan
My mother often reminded me “books will never break your heart “
I believed her
At least I tried to
The classroom door swung open just as our English teacher entered
Good morning everyone
Good morning ma’am the class replied
We have a new student joining us today
A tall boy stepped into the room his white uniform was neatly pressed and his backpack rested casually over one shoulder he wasn’t trying to impress anyone yet every eye in the room found him
He had warm brown eyes a calm smile and expression that made him seem completely at ease
I’m Felix maxwells he said my family recently moved here from Canada it’s nice to meet you all
Several girls whispered excitedly
I hope he sits near me
He’s handsome
I wonder if he has a girlfriend
I rolled my eyes and returned my attention to my note book
Boys had one talent they distracted people from what really mattered
Felix the teacher said scanning the classroom the only empty sit is beside Olivia
I looked up so quickly that my pen slipped from my fingers
He walked towards me
Hi he said with polite smile
Hi
His voice was calm and for the reason I couldn’t explain it made me feel strangely nervous
Throughout the lesson I focused on taking notes refusing to look his direction
Until……
Excuse me he whispered
I glanced sideways
I forgot my notebook could I borrow one sheet of paper
Without saying a word I tore a page from my notebook and handed it to him
Thank you
You’re welcome
That was our first conversation
Just three words each
I never imagined those simple words would become the beginning of a story that would change my life forever
During lunch break I sat beneath the old mango tree behind the library enjoying the quiet
It was my favorite place in the school
No gossip
No noise
Just peace
I opened my literature textbook determined to finish my assignment before afternoon classes
