"Father," Vance called again, the urgency in his voice bothered her. "Please take your seat," he rephrased.
Vance could tell his father was about to say something dumb from the way his hand folded into a fist, to the way he had a deathly stare in Selene's direction. Vance knew something was about to go down and he also knew it would be in his best interest to stop it.
His father, however, wasn't listening and Vance knew the instant De Vile's mouth opened that whatever would come out of it would not be nice and since it was targeted at Selene, it would most definitely affect him.
"I do mind, Kova!" He muttered with disgust. "And that is not all? If she has already been marked by my son, please explain what the point of this meeting is exactly?"
Vance felt all the color drain from his face, he was normally a good pale but now he was certain he looked like a ghost. It took a lot for him not to punch the hell out of his father. He could not believe his ears, he had always known his father was a lot of things but this takes the cake.
Selene blinked, blinked again. Marked? De Vile was not only unethical, but he was also delusional too. She was not marked and never have been. "What in the gracious name are you talking about?!" She yelled back.
He was testing her patience and she could feel herself slowly lose it. With each passing minute, she was regretting why she had come here. She glanced at her father for help but as usual, he was not looking in her direction.
De Vile laughed loudly, it echoed in the silent room. "Oh, she does not even know. What kind of vampire are you if you don't even realize you've been marked?" He laughed some more. "I am sorry to break it to you sweetheart but you have his smell all over you and it is not just because you guys have been cozy in bed!"
"ENOUGH!" Kova yelled and the room shook. "Have you had your fun, De Vile?"
Selene's head was spinning. It was like the sole purpose she and been called to attend this meeting was to be humiliated. She should have known from the instant she had stepped in, the air had told her all she needed to know but she had pushed forward.
How long has she been marked? How did she not realize it? How dare Vance? She raised her head to glare at him but her body had something else in mind she didn't even realize until she was almost at the door that she was leaving.
"Selene wait," she heard Vance say but she was not listening, didn't care for anything anyone had to say.
Kova turned to face De Vile as soon as the door closed behind Selene. With death in his eyes, he glared at the man who played a major role in the death of his wife and just made his daughter run out in embarrassment. "Pray this mess is something fixable, De Vile or you can kiss the peace treaty and everything else goodbye."
