The guards by the gate bowed to her as she drove in. However, she did not pay them any mind but drove on. The courtyard was filled with strange cars— filled was an exaggeration but there were a number of cars she did not recognize and some seemed familiar.
The familiar one definitely belonged to the Nobles while the unrecognizable ones were Blackwoods. Selene felt her palm close at the thought and her nails dug into it. She could try to control herself but she was worried she would not be able to control it for very long, so right there she made herself a promise to leave if she felt things were getting out of hand and she wanted to combust.
Her favorite parking spot by the entrance was taken which meant she would have to rely on Manuel to park her car properly which also meant she could not have a clean getaway. She bit the inside of her cheeks as she slowed down the path approaching the main entrance, there was no turning back now and she was about to her father and everyone behind that door not just physically considering they were all in support of the hideous idea except her.
She swallowed as she brought the car to a stop and no sooner was she out of the car that Manuel appeared by her side and he held the door for her to get out. She smiled softly at him as he bowed and kept his head down until she was completely out of the car area.
Selene did not notice this as she was already speeding away, happy that he did not try to have a conversation or try to inform her about what was going behind the door even though she would have appreciated that but she was not sure she was in the right frame of mind for a conversation.
She stood at the entrance and swallowed, she knew she would not have to open it herself, she probably had less than two seconds before the door would fling open. Two seconds was not enough but heavens knew she needed it and she closed her eyes as she tried to get her bearings and almost immediately she felt a slight breeze hit her face as the door opened.
The dead silence that followed as she appeared at the other side was so deafening that she winced but she wasn't sure if it was the brightness of the room or the fact that every single person in the room was staring straight at her. It took her everything not to put her head down but the last thing she wanted to show the Blackwoods was weakness. She’d rather drop dead that moment.
She glared back though it was pretty hard to stare at all of them, so she just stared ahead, staring at everyone and staring at nothing. She took a step forward and suddenly a wave of something hit her, she could quite place what it was but it felt familiar.
