CHAPTER SIXTEEN

1096 Words
Was this a joke to him? Selene almost screamed. Here she was lamenting about a decision that was about to turn everything she knew apart and he was worried about what she smelt like. He must have realized his mistake because he immediately tried to make amends by quickly changing the subject. "Where did you go after the meeting?" He asked. "I don't see how that is any of your concern and you have refused to answer me." She replied with a huge scowl on her face. Kova sighed, this wasn't going in the way that he thought it would. Selene was looking pretty aggressive but try as he might he couldn't think of anything he could say that would appease her. "Have a seat, this isn't something we should discuss while standing." He muttered and brought his hands closer to his face in an attempt to look like he had control of the situation. Selene raised her left brow and folded her arms. "Now, you want to discuss this after you have already made your decision, dad. Don't make light of the situation besides, I am perfectly fine right where I am." Kova tried not to sigh again, he knew better than to show a sign of weakness, Selene would jump at it and grab it. He expected this but it didn't make it any easier. He couldn't explain that this was for her own good, it would mean that he didn't think she was strong enough, he did but it didn't mean she had to go through this any longer. Nothing he said would seem right in her eyes. "This was a decision that we decided was the best action to take at a time like this." He stated. "We?" She frowned. "Yes, the Nobles and myself." Kova could feel himself fall into a pit and try and he might, he couldn't find a way to come out of it. "You left me out at such an important decision… I am not done." She muttered at her father when he tried to interrupt, unfolding her arms and showing her right palm at him. "Aside from the fact that they literally killed mother, the supposed love of your life…" Kova flinched at his daughter's words. "You are about to marry me off without my permission. What do I stand for to you? Did you really think I was going to sit back and take it?" She paused and threw her head back to laugh, "It is like a bad joke, I can't believe that this is happening. The Blackwood! Did you forget?" "It has been decided, Selene," Kova said slowly, keeping his eyes on Selene as he paid attention to the emotions that visibly seeped out of her. "What?" Selene yelled and for the first time since they broke the news to her, she felt a slight doubt at the fact that she would be able to turn this decision around. "You heard me, it is irreversible. We called on Oathic." Selene's eyes widened and she stared at her father in horror. "That doesn't make any sense, we did that when mother died. This doesn't make any sense." She yelled. "Selene, your mother died a long time ago. We have avenged her as much as we can. Knowing your mother she wouldn't have wanted any sort of revenge. Vampires are on the verge of a war that is likely to wipe us out. The last thing the two powerhouses need to do is fight!" Selene's hands fell to her sides. "Where the heck is this coming from? What has this got to do with mother's death? Why am I just hearing this? What in heaven's name is going on?" Selene threw out all once as she tried to comprehend what was going on. "That is what I need to discuss with you. That's why I need you to sit." Selene frowned, "But this is not a discussion, you're going to be telling me about how your decision is irrefutable, how you and the Nobles came up with this conclusion for the greater good." Selene looked to her father and looked away before turning around to leave the room. "Where are you going to?" Kova asked, stopping Selene in her tracks. She turned around and looked in his direction. "Isn't it obvious? I have work to do." She didn't wait for his reply but left the study. "Selene!" He called but she didn't stop. Kova sank into his seat and sighed, rubbing his forehead as he tried to get a grip on what was going on. "Your grace," Cedric said, breaking him from his train of thought. "Spare me all that Cedric. What am I going to do about Selene?" He asked, still keeping his gaze to the ground as he held his face in his palms. "I do not know, we can only hope that she comes around or has enough patience to listen to what you have to say. You knew it wouldn't come so easy." Cedric returned as he carefully placed the documents back on the table. "She has to, our options are not exactly numerous. I understand her hatred and reason to not want to be a part of the Blackwood but that was years ago. Too many things are happening now for us to fight between ourselves." Kova sighed but took his hands away from his face as he paid attention once again to the important papers. Cedric nodded vigorously but quickly pointed to where they had stopped. These were important documents, they didn't have time to dawdle, Kova knew that. Besides, the best way to handle Selene was to leave her by herself. Eventually, she would come around but it would have to be on her own steps. He could live with that but he couldn't dare let her bear all these by herself. "Is this all of it?" He asked. "Not really, just about a couple left but not as important as these," Cedric replied to Kova's question. Kova sighed again, he was exhausted, a lot of things had happened coupled with the fact that for a full day, he had no idea where his daughter had been and had absolutely no means to reach her and had feared the worst. It had taken a lot to not voice out his fears at the sight of her but she wouldn't have been pleased to hear it and he didn't want to anger her more. "Alright then, the sooner we can get them all done, the better."
