CHAPTER FIFTY-TWO

However, he could not deny the importance of this meeting and the great impact the peace treaty and union were going to have on the Blackwood and Valak Clans even if the catalyst was a shitty reason. Well, the popular reason was that both Primus weren't getting any younger and their clans were also dwindling. This was a way of preservation, of making sure there would definitely be something left after they were both gone. To make sure what happened years ago and what has been happening for years would not repeat itself and the marriage was one way to make sure the Clans didn't go against the peace treaty. Both Primus knew it would take a very long time for the different clans to act as one but they were willing to take the risk. There was a good reason behind it, however, it didn't make the execution and everything else less shitty. He was trying to distract himself with thinking but it wasn't working, he was here now he would have to be ready for whatever was coming there was obviously no way he could avoid it except he turned around and fled right this moment before they reached the meeting room. Even as he thought of it he knew how stupid it would look if he dared attempt it. The vampire, Athan down the hallway and through a path that led to a door. The doors were almost as big as the main entrance and as they got close enough the guards pushed it open. Athan walked in first with them closely behind and then he stepped out of the way and bent forward slightly, almost unnoticeable and then he stretched his hands towards the round table. They didn't need anyone to tell them what Athan's gesture meant. However, Vance's gaze already beat everyone else to the table. As soon as he had walked in, the first thing his eyes did was to search through the vampires seated at the table. The relief that coursed through him when he saw she was not among them was so strong, his father glanced at him as if he had noticed something. Vance ignored his father's stare like was ignoring the pair of eyes that were staring straight at them. Nobody stopped walking or even slowed down. They all walked to the table with purpose. One side was completely taken, so the Blackwood knew which side they belonged to and they all walked to their seats like they had been told beforehand where they would be seated. Vance sat next to his father who was seated directly beside the Valak clan's Primus and beside Vance was Gualterio. There was an empty seat beside Kova Valak and for some reason, Vance could tell immediately that it had been reserved for Selene. He then wondered if maybe she was already here but was in the bathroom or something. There was no bag or purse on the table in front of the chair but it still didn't completely overrule the fact that she was here. From the corner of his eyes, he saw a guard move to stand behind his father, the rest gave a reasonable amount of space but they all stood behind them. There were only three guards in the meeting room with them. Three were standing directly outside the door while the remaining six were at the main entrance and by the cars. Only a minimum number of Valak's guards were in the meeting room, except the guard by the door; they were the same number as the number of guards the Blackwood Clan had brought into the meeting room. "Shall we begin?" Athan asked. Vance had not even noticed when he approached the table. "I don't see why not." A couple of people said while a few others nodded. "Hold up! I see unfamiliar faces." De Vile suddenly yelled out and Vance wished the ground would open up and swallow him. His father had this annoying way of always having his way. Vance knew every single person at the table and he and not even met them before which meant his father also knew who they were. Blackwood kept their tabs on Valak, and Valak did the exact thing that was what they did. "Unfamiliar faces?" It was Kova who spoke. "Who might they be, if I may ask?" "Him!" De Vile pointed without any regard or hint of finesse. The Noble in question moved aside, so the finger pointed at him was pointing at an empty space. He glared at De Vile and Vance could see nothing but malice in his eyes. "Oh that would be Cian Claward, I am pretty sure you know who his father was. Anyone else?" It was Kova who spoke and he had a bored expression as he spoke to De Vile a child would.
