He did not move an inch from where he stood until she stopped seeing him and this was when she got to the gate which immediately opened as she got close enough so there was no need to stop and she drove right out.
She drove for about two minutes and then came to an abrupt stop putting off the engine. She needed a breather, a moment to get over what just happened. It was not much but it had been enough for her to reconsider her decision, especially the look in his eyes. He had looked genuinely sad to let her go and then the words he had whispered in her ears when he hugged her. They had not registered until she had started to drive away.
“Let me see you sooner this time.”
She had been too stunned to give him a reply, in fact, he did not give her a chance to and she did not even realised his words until she was driving away. One would think she would be happier that he did not protest to her leaving but the lack of a fight left her feeling a little deflated.
The energy from whatever exchange had he allowed to happen would have left her with enough to get her home but she had gotten none of that. Instead, he had simply said he was fine with her appearing and disappearing act as that was the only way she could interpret his words.
She squeezed the steering wheel, bending her head a little as emotions coursed through her, emotions she had absolutely nothing to do with. She did not even understand what she was feeling, could not give it a name. Suddenly, a sound startled her. “What the f**k?” she murmured in the confines of her car as she jerked in fright, raising her head to see what had made her jump.
“Get out,” she heard almost immediately and she realized that the sound that had startled her was the sound of the butt of a gun hitting against the glass of her window. That was when she realized she had chosen the worst spot to stop.
There was literally nothing in front of her and nothing behind on the sides of the road. All she could see was the green lands, nothing more. She did not need anyone to tell her she was all by herself and somehow she would have to survive this.
She immediately raised her hands, the glass was in no way bulletproof, one shot through it was sure to send her to her mama real quick considering her head was inches away from the glass and of course she wanted to avoid that.
There was also someone standing in front of the car, if she was fast enough to start the engine to drive off she doubted the car would be fast enough to drive over the body of the assailant that stood in front of the car and she was very likely to get shot before escaping.
The door was not locked and she immediately wondered why they did not open it themselves but they probably did not bother to check and just assumed. She couldn't really see the person holding the gun because they stood too close to the door so even if she dipped her head a little she still could not see their face.
One thing was for sure, she knew there was more than one person standing on the other side of her car door. She could see two but she had a feeling they were more than that.
She almost groaned out loud, there was no way she could get out of this without an incident. Now she wished she had humored her daddy and went with a bulletproof car instead but she often saw that as unnecessary attention and truly it was.
“Okay,” she said even though she knew they could not hear her. Her brain immediately went to calculative mode. Sight was not a problem as even in the moonless night, she was certain she could see as clearly as possible, however with their numbers and weapons she wondered if she would be able to escape without a scratch. She did not know if the other members of the robbers had any weapons but it was safe to assume they did.
She slowly brought down her hand and pretended to unlock the door before opening the door. There was absolutely nothing she could use as a weapon in the car and she almost screamed at her naivety.
She was not worried about getting shot but rather getting shot in a place she could not take care of all by herself. Somewhere that would need cleansing because the healing process was sure to start immediately but it might not be so fast depending on how deep the injury was and the last thing she wanted was her wound closing up wrongly.
She slowly opened the door, making sure to lift her hands as she did so. She did not want to trigger them, humans were easily pissed off and she did not need anyone to tell her they were likely not going to hesitate to kill her if the choice arose.
She made sure to leave the car door open having already put her car keys in the pocket of her shorts. Her hands were still in the air as she got out. This was a risky choice as it was pretty obvious they wanted her car. Leaving it open was not the right way to go but she wanted to make her escape as fast as possible and the last thing she wanted to do during the process of her escape was to struggle with the car door.
She made a quick dart with her eyes from side to side checking out all her assaulters, they were three in number. One was directly in front of the car and the last one was behind the first one. Well, not exactly behind but about a foot away.
She could not really tell if they were holding weapons or not but the one still held his gun in a way that showed he was not afraid to use it. Their faces were covered but not as excessive as wearing an actual mask but rather they had hoodies over their heads.
She wondered what they were after besides her car, she was not exactly with a lot of cash but she was not cashless either. She did not mind giving them the cash but her car was totally out of it, she would fight for it tooth and nail if she had to.
"Where is the car key?" The dude with a gun asked.
"W-what?" Selene stuttered as she pretended she could not hear what he had said.
"I said the car keys God damn it!" The dude yelled, jerking his free hand towards her and shaking the gun as he threatened her.
She forced herself to jerk, a little slow in her opinion but it was pretty hard to keep the act up. She badly wanted to tackle him to the ground but she did not have the upper hand just yet.
Without the gun, she was certain she could whoop the three dudes' asses maybe not unscathed but she sure as hell would win the fight. It wasn't even a question but unfortunately, she had to avoid getting shot.
"Um, um, um…" she stuttered keeping up with her act. Her head was a little bent but her eyes kept farting from one side to the other as she studied her assailants.
They were coming closer, she already confirmed that the third person who was behind the dude with a gun was not with a weapon she wanted to avoid. As she stuttered from the corner of her eyes she could see the assailants that had stood in front of the car closer and she saw he did not hold a gun.
It was hard to keep her smile in as she opened her mouth to give the one with gun details on where her car keys were. "I left it on the engine," she rushed out.
As soon as the words left her lips, the assailant bent his head as he made an attempt to enter the car. Selene did not think, she moved.
Bringing her left hand down as it was the hand that was closest to the dude, she made a chopping motion and hit the side of her palm hard on his neck. He stumbled and she expected him to go down but instead, she heard the sound of a gunshot and a sharp intense pain immediately followed as the bullet entered her body through her side.
She did not need to think she knew she had been hit in a vital organ and at that close range, she knew the damage was severe. She had felt the bullet pass through her body and stop. The blood flow was instant and it poured out in a gush.
