With death in his eyes, he glared at the man who played a major role in the death of his wife and just made his daughter run out in embarrassment. "Pray this mess is something fixable, De Vile or you can kiss the peace treaty and everything else goodbye."
De Vile shrank, even he could tell when he had got out of line. He sat back down and bent his head. He didn't need anyone to tell him Kova was serious and with the state of things the treaty was quite important.
Vance was already on his feet the instant Selene was out the door. He glared at his father before he fled after her. He couldn't even think, he had no idea what he would tell her.
He had not wanted to mark her but had simply done it in the moment and had been surprised when it worked. It was known that you can't mark someone unless at least a part of them wanted to mark them.
He didn't realize until the next morning that she had not been aware of it and when she came back he thought for sure she knew but she didn't. Unfortunately, there had not been a right moment to bring it up, mostly because he knew she would ask him to unmark her and he didn't even know how to do that.
However, now was not the time to think about it as he rushed out after her. His chair turned over as he stood up and rushed out the side of it but he didn't care, somebody else should take care of that, he was going to try to fix an even bigger mess.
He pushed open the meeting door with a lot of extra force that the door shook on its hinges. As he got out, he got a glimpse of her before she turned the corner. "Selene," he called. He knew she heard him but he had not expected an answer and of course, he didn't get one.
He rushed after her, turning at the corner that she had just taken, only to discover she was almost at the door. Vance sped up some more, slipping out the door. He could already tell he was getting off glances from the guard but now was not the time to worry about what other people thought. He had more pressing matters at hand.
"Selene, wait!" He yelled again but she refused to answer him, at this point she was almost by her car side and he knew if she got into the car, she would be gone.
Vance felt himself start to run even before his brain issued the command to his legs. He jumped over the bushes as he tried to cut the distance between them. He was certain there were leaves all over his pants but he didn't care.
He had to stop her, he didn't even know what he would tell her, however, he could worry about that after he had caught up to her. He grabbed onto her hand just as she was about to slide in, "Selene," he called again.
