CHAPTER FIFTY

808 Words
Vance glared at his father because there was no difference between what he said and what was happening. He had his father's belt around his waist and he was being forced to the meeting, one could basically say he was being dragged to it. He didn't increase his pace even though his father had just yelled at him to do so. Since he could not get out of it he was going to make it just as unbearable as it was for him, for his father. His father did not say another word though, just got into the car and after a couple of seconds, actually a lot of seconds Vance got into the car. He got into the car and immediately noticed, it wasn't just the driver in front, there was somebody else in the passenger seat. He didn't give it much thought as he closed the door because he knew it was just his father being extra careful. No sooner did the car door close beside him that the car zoomed off. Almost immediately like five other cars set off behind them as they drove out of the huge gates of De Vile Blackwoods' residence. Suddenly two cars overtook theirs with the remaining three behind them. Vance knew every single person in every car, from the driver to their passenger or passengers. Every driver of each car was not just a driver, they were also bodyguards even though it was supposedly a peaceful meeting, The Blackwoods were taking any chance, if they had to fight they wanted to be ready. It was bad enough that the meeting was not only held in Valak's territory but in the Primus mansion itself. If the Valak Primus decided to go rogue, they were at a huge disadvantage but if they had to die, he knew every Blackwood would want to take down as many Valak as they possibly could. Nonetheless, that would not be the case. At least that was one thing they were all sure of even though they still prepared for the off chance that things eventually went wrong. Their treaty would not only favor the Blackwoods but the Valaks as well, especially Kova Valak's daughter and everybody knew she was one thing he held dear. Also making sure she was forever protected was the least thing they could do considering The Blackwoods had been a major character in her mother's death. Nobody said a word throughout the journey. Vance didn't even glance in his father's direction, just rested his head on the car headrest and kept his gaze outside the car, studying trees and other cars they came across. The weather seemed just right for a weird vampire meeting and he wondered if they had also checked the weather before deciding on the date. It would not shock him if they had, they were creepy like that. He knew a lot about the Valaks, basically, every single information his father knew, he made sure pass it across to him and one thing was sure, this treaty was a long time coming and even though his father was only agreeing for selfish reasons as automatically meant his son was in charge of both regions because according to him, nobody would listen to a female vampire. It had taken Vance everything not to chuckle at the thought of this. His father had obviously not met Selene and a part of him wanted her to show up at the meeting just to prove his father wrong. However, that part was a little tiny voice that he had no plan to listen to. The car suddenly slowed as they approached a gate. It was a huge gate but not that much bigger than the one at the entrance of De Vile Blackwood's mansion. it was not an unfamiliar one but Vance had never seen what was behind the gate. He wondered if the size of the gate was one thing both his father and Primus of the Valak had been competitive about. He would not be surprised. The car picked up again, the cars in front moved through the gates first and the car Vance was in quickly followed behind. They quickly lined up in front of the house in a vertical line. The parking was so carefully done that the thought that the drivers must have practiced this crossed Vance's mind. All the cars came to a full stop at the same time. Vance heard the engines go off at once. Ridiculous. It was like he was in a show. He wasn't in the mood for any kind of show-off. It was embarrassing enough that he had to wear the exact same belt every member of the blackwood was wearing, the drivers were no exception, now this show. His father never knew where or when to draw the line.
