"De Vile Blackwood's son!" Athan announced and Selene tore her gaze away from Vance.
She didn't know what to do. Her head was spinning. She glanced over at her father but he was not looking in her direction. She didn't want to cause a scene, if it was just the Nobles of course she would have turned the meeting apart but the last thing she wanted to do was embarrass her father in front of people who were strangers to her.
"Gualterio Gustavo," Athan said but she was not listening.
She stared up but she was staring at nobody in particular. She certainly didn't want to glance in Vance's direction anymore. She could not believe how she had been so stupid. She should have seen the signs when he wasn't asking enough questions but she was not asking, she had not cared.
His house also indicated wealth but there were a lot of vampires who were wealthy in fact, it was safe to assume all of them were. Now, that she thought about it not once had it crossed her mind that he would be blackwood.
Of course, she cared that he was, she had just been pretty occupied with the dumb marriage to ask about it. Actually, it had not even occurred to her because his house was still located in Valak's territory. Well, not completely but it was not the outskirts. She didn't think any blackwood would have dared. How wrong she had been.
She looked at her father again, the only way Vance would have known the club to find her was if her father had talked. Which of course, he had and that was why he was avoiding her gaze even though it was pretty obvious that she was glaring at him.
She looked at every member of the table and the fact that they all knew was glaring, it was embarrassing. Here she was about to make her case on how delusional they all were, how she would never forgive them for what they did to her mother and they could pack up their marriage proposal and the shitty peace treaty, and shove it up their asses.
However, she was never getting such an opportunity as they all knew she had been intimate with Vance and not just any Vance, the very one she was supposed to marry. It was like a never-ending nightmare.
She noticed Athan was done speaking and was saying something about what they had been discussing before she came in but try as she might she could not pay attention for the life of her.
"Enough with this bullshit," she suddenly heard.
She turned her head to the direction of the noise and saw that the Blackwood's Primus was on his feet. From the first glance, she knew she would not like him, and here he was without decorum.
She could not believe her father was about to shake hands with people whose Primus didn't care for manners. She knew she could be irrational sometimes but she knew better than to do it in the midst of outsiders let alone strangers.
