CHAPTER TWENTY

1043 Words
Topher was known for his great cooking skills and try as she might, she still had not found any better. However, eating here was something she normally did and she wanted to break all the norms. Besides, it was for this sole reason she had made sure she wasn't hungry before getting here. "Thank you, Pam but I already ate something. I will go see my father now." Her last words were said a little colder than she intended but she needed to make the maid realize that what was wrong wasn't something that could be easily solved. Besides, she was sure the incident that had happened in the conference room had not escaped the servants' notice. They weren't known to gossip but they were also very aware of the affairs that went on in the household. So, she didn't need to have to explain while she was doing this. She knew Pam understood and was probably trying to change her mind. Maybe for an entirely different situation, it would have worked but not for this one, like she had said to her father 'not in a million years. Pam bowed and made way for Selene to go up the stairs as she knew anything she threw at Selene would most likely be tossed back with an uneven force. The princess was known for her strong-headedness, she would not be easily convinced. She prayed to the heavens for the Primus as there was no doubt he would be the one to get the whole and the full brunt of her anger. Pam knew she wouldn't wish the Primus position on anyone. She was relatively the same age as the princess and had also been in the castle as long as Selene had. Her mother had served the Queen and they had died side by side or at least Pam wished that that was how her mother died but nobody really knew. So, she completely understood how Selene felt and a huge part of her agreed with her. However, she couldn't deny the huge impact their union would have on the vampire world and things would definitely get better because as of now a Blackwood wouldn't dare reveal themselves in Valak territory and vice versa. There was also the fact that their intense battle that has gone on for years was giving other vampires that refused to join either group the audacity to start something of theirs and that was one thing they were all afraid of. Things we were likely to get out of hand if they were left unchecked. For that reason alone, Pam was willing to put her feelings aside and bless their union as it was in favor of both houses. She also hoped that Selene would be able to see it as more than joining hands with the people that killed her mother. However, she couldn't deny that the chance of that was very slim. She stood to her full height as she watched the princess walk up the stairs, she didn't move out of her position until the princess was completely out of sight as princess Selene took the turn that led to the Primus’ quarters, and then Pam bowed one more time before she left for the kitchen to let Topher know the princess would not be having lunch. She knew he would be quite disappointed. Selene took a deep breath as she got to the door of her father’s quarters and without giving the idea much thought she pushed the doors open maybe just a little too forcefully but kept her act up like it had been intended and she may have enjoyed the flash of surprise that passed across her father's face as she walked in. However, she knew it was because of her entrance and not her presence. He must have sensed her as soon as she had walked through the main doors, that she was sure of. “Selene,” he said softly, bringing down the book he had over his face and onto his laps. It was just her name but for some reason, it felt so heavy and for a second she felt really bad for being so hard and difficult on him. This was most certainly taking its toll on him. He sat on his bed as she walked in, his back was against the huge frame that made the headpiece of the bed. The book was upturned on his lap. “Good to see you, I didn't think you would grace me with your presence again.” He added after a moment and folded his arms as if bracing himself from what was to come. Just like that, all her feelings of remorse flew out of the window. “I am glad you know your actions were bad enough to put a rift in our relationship but that is not what I am here to talk about after all what is the point? Nothing I will say to you can change the decision that YOU made and nothing you will say to me will ever change my mind.” She knew he did not come up with such a decision all by himself and the Nobles probably had more to do with it than he did considering they were all in agreement with it. However, there was no one else she could blame so here she was putting the entirety of the blame on him and there was also the fact that he was her father, he could have stood up for her and prevented this. She couldn't even believe he agreed to this, not after all what the Blackwoods had put them through. “Selene,” he repeated his sadness evident but she blinded herself to it. “Jefferson Cooperative would like a personal meeting with us, I say personal but it is more informal than in friendly terms. I am sure they just want to see what we look like in our comfort zone. This said meeting is to finalize the deal we have been working so hard for.” She paused dramatically to give her father time to process the fact that she was done with their personal affairs and now it was time for business.
