Gulf was desperate. He needed money—more than anything—to pay for his school expenses and finish his final year in college.
At only twenty-one years old, he had very little work experience, and every application he submitted seemed to end with the same answer: rejection.
He had applied for almost anything he could find. He tried applying as a janitor, hoping that the job would at least provide him with enough money to pay for his transportation, food, projects, and school fees.
He even applied for a position as a bookkeeper, despite knowing that he lacked the experience most employers required.
Still, no one accepted him.
Every day, Gulf would wake up with the same question running through his mind.
“How am I supposed to finish school?”
He was already in his final year of college. Giving up now would mean throwing away years of hard work. He had once been a scholar, and receiving that scholarship had felt like a miracle. It had given him hope that he could graduate despite his family's financial struggles.
But he failed to protect it.
His scholarship was taken away because of a problem involving the school director's son. Gulf had tried to explain what happened, but no one seemed willing to listen to someone like him. The director's son had influence, connections, and a powerful family name.
Gulf had none of those things.
After losing his scholarship, everything became harder.
His tuition remained unpaid. His school requirements continued to pile up. His classmates were already preparing for graduation while he was struggling to figure out how he would afford to stay enrolled.
He considered stopping.
Maybe it would be easier to leave college, find any job he could get, and forget about graduating.
But every time he imagined himself walking away, his heart refused to accept it.
He had come too far.
So, when every door seemed to close, Gulf searched for another way.
That was when he discovered an online platform where people could earn money by entertaining clients through private interactions. At first, he only wanted to understand how it worked. He told himself that he would never become part of it.
But desperation has a way of changing the boundaries people once thought they would never cross.
He needed money.
He needed it quickly.
And eventually, Gulf joined.
He began exposing parts of himself that he had always considered private. Behind the screen, he became someone different—someone who smiled when he wanted to cry, someone who pretended to be comfortable when every part of him wanted to disappear.
His clients asked for things.
He followed their instructions.
He learned how to silence his embarrassment, hide his shame, and separate the person he was from the person they saw on their screens.
Every time he logged in, he reminded himself of the same thing.
“This is for school.”
This was for his tuition.
This was for his graduation.
This was for the future he had spent years fighting for.
He closed his eyes and endured whatever he had to endure.
He told himself that it was temporary.
Just until he had enough money.
Just until he could graduate.
Just until he could finally escape.
But no matter how hard he tried to separate his online life from his real one, the two worlds slowly began moving closer together.
And then, one ordinary night, everything changed.
Gulf was sitting in front of his computer, waiting for another client. His room was quiet except for the faint hum of the electric fan. His books were scattered across the desk, reminding him of the reason he was doing all of this.
His phone suddenly vibrated. A message appeared.
At first, Gulf ignored it.
Then another message came. And another. He finally picked up his phone. His blood ran cold.
The person messaging him was not a stranger. It was someone he knew.
Someone from his real life. Someone who had recognized him. Gulf stared at the screen, unable to breathe properly.
How?
How could this person have found him?
Before he could think of an answer, another message appeared.
“I know who you are.”
Gulf's hands began to tremble. He immediately closed the application, but it was already too late. The messages continued.
“I know where you study.”
Another message.
“I know what you do.”
Then came the one that made his heart stop.
“You wouldn't want your school to find out, would you?”
Gulf froze.
His mind raced through every possible consequence. If this person exposed him, what would happen?
Would his classmates find out?
Would his teachers discover the truth?
Would the school remove him?
Would his friends learn what he had been doing to pay his tuition?
Would he lose the little dignity he had left?
His greatest fear was no longer losing money. It was losing everything.
The person began threatening him, using his secret as leverage. Every message made Gulf feel more trapped.
He wanted to block the account.
He wanted to report the person.
He wanted to tell someone.
But fear kept his fingers frozen above the screen. For the first time, Gulf realized that the decision he had made to save his education might be the same decision that could destroy his future.
He looked at the books on his desk.
His graduation was so close.
He had survived rejection.
He had survived losing his scholarship.
He had survived nights when he could barely afford to eat.
He had convinced himself that he could survive this, too.
But now he was facing a choice he never expected to make.
Should he continue keeping his secret and obey the person threatening him?
Or should he finally tell someone and risk everything being exposed?
Gulf wiped the tears from his eyes. He had entered that online world believing that money could solve his problems.
But now he understood something he had refused to see before.
Money could pay his tuition.
Money could keep him in school.
But money could not buy back his peace of mind. And it certainly could not erase the consequences of a secret once someone else discovered it.
For the first time in months, Gulf felt completely helpless. He had wanted nothing more than to graduate. He had only wanted a chance at a better life. Yet somehow, that simple dream had led him into a situation he could no longer control.
His phone vibrated again.
Another message.
Another threat.
Gulf stared at the screen, his heart pounding against his chest. This time, however, he did not immediately reply.
He took a deep breath. Perhaps the hardest part was not deciding what he had to lose. Perhaps it was finally deciding what he was willing to fight for.
His future.
His dignity.
His education.
And most importantly, himself.
Gulf slowly placed the phone on the table. For once, he would not allow desperation to make the decision for him.
Whatever happened next, he knew one thing:
He could not keep running forever.
And the secret he had worked so hard to hide was finally demanding to be faced.
