There was silence in the dining room for a while after Raymond's confession. Tristan stared at his son as he processed the words he had just said, while Raymond stared at his wineglass, tapping his finger against it, knowing that his father was watching him.
Lilian was the first to break the silence between them.
“See, I told you, Dad. Ray likes her. Too bad I won't be staying around for a while, so I won't get to see the girl he's talking about,” Lilian said, and Raymond rolled his eyes.
“Ray, look at me,” Lord Tristan finally said.
Raymond raised his head and looked at his father with his bright red eyes, gazing into his father's darker ones.
“You know very well that she belongs to an Alpha werewolf, right?”
“Yes, Father.”
“And you know that going to fight an Alpha over his mate can cost you your life?”
“Yes, Father.”
“Good. So why don't you just let her be with her mate and then go find another human girl to fall in love with? Or perhaps a pretty vampire in school or here in our estate, instead of fighting over a girl when you aren't even sure if she loves you back?”
“Dad, whether Muna loves me or not, I just need your help in getting her out of that ruthless and inhumane Alpha's hands,” Raymond said.
“So Muna is her name,” Lilian said, but Raymond ignored her.
“Alright,” Lord Tristan said.
Lilian narrowed her big red eyes at their father in shock.
“Dad, you couldn't possibly agree to help Ray attack an Alpha, right?” she asked.
“Hey, Lilian, I told you to mind your business,” Raymond said, already getting pissed off by his sister's attitude.
“Look, I only care about the well-being of my family, and I just can't sit here and watch you and Dad cause trouble in the werewolves' territory by saving a human girl who is rightfully with her mate,” Lilian said.
“What do you even know, Lily?” Raymond asked angrily.
Tristan, not wanting his children to start fighting in the dining room, decided to intervene in their argument.
“Alright, alright! That's enough, both of you,” he said before turning to face Lilian. “My sweet Lily, I know you're right and that you only care about your brother, but please, this is just between me and your brother, okay? So I'll be happy if you go to your room now and get some sleep, please.”
“What?” Lilian was surprised by what their father had said. “Dad, are you sending me to my room now?”
“Honey, please just go, okay?” Lord Tristan said.
“Alright, I'll go, but I just wish Mom was still alive. I know she wouldn't agree with this, but death was so cruel that it took her away from us. Good night, both of you,” Lilian said and stormed off to her room angrily.
She promised herself that she would let her Uncle Alexander know about this when she got to his residence the following day.
After Lilian left, Tristan turned to face Raymond, who was taking a sip of his blood tea.
“You know your sister is right,” he said.
“I know she cares about me, but this is my decision, not hers,” Raymond said curtly as he finally emptied his glass and placed it on the table.
“Mind if I ask you something? Do you know the particular Alpha who took Muna and which pack she was taken to?” Tristan asked.
Raymond shook his head.
“That's the problem now, Dad. I asked her, and she told me that she doesn't know. She doesn't even know her mate's name,” Raymond said, and his jaw tightened when he mentioned the words her mate.
“So how do you expect me to help you when you don't even know where she is or where the pack is located?” Tristan asked.
“She said she would ask the Alpha's Gamma about the Alpha's name and his pack, and she would inform us.”
“So until then?”
“Yeah... Thanks, Dad. Good night,” Raymond said.
He stood up from his chair and began walking towards his room when he heard his father's voice.
“You didn't even touch your food.”
“I lost my appetite. Besides, I've already had the important thing,” Raymond said, referring to the blood tea he had drunk.
He then ran up the stairs and entered the room opposite his sister's.
He got onto his bed and wrapped himself in the duvet as the night was cold. He turned off the lamp on the nightstand and closed his eyes to sleep when suddenly, a thought popped into his head.
Danielle!
She was the one who could locate where Muna was with her locator spell, just like how she and Sharon had found out where he lived.
Why hadn't he thought of this sooner?
He sat up on the bed and turned on the lamp. He picked up his phone from the nightstand and scrolled through his contact list until he found her name, which he had saved as Elle.
He tapped on her number, about to call her, but then he paused.
It was late, and she was probably asleep by now. He didn't want to disturb her.
He looked at the clock, and it was 7:30 p.m. He put his phone back and lay down on the bed, facing the ceiling.
He would meet her tomorrow at the cafe in school and tell her.
Or perhaps she was practising a spell now, as witches loved practising their spells at night.
No! He didn't want to disturb her. He would see her tomorrow.
With that thought, he closed his eyes and soon fell asleep.
That night, he dreamt of Muna sleeping beside him on the bed. He was hugging her tightly, with her head resting on his chest.

Jayden stared at his mate's head, which was resting on his broad shoulder as she slept and breathed softly like a baby.
He had been staring at her for a while now, as though he was seeing her for the first time. He was surprised that his anger hadn't gotten the better of him tonight and made him push her off his shoulder. Instead, he had allowed her to rest there.
Another reason he had left her alone was because of the spark he felt whenever he touched her or their bodies came into contact.
The car hadn't even moved too far away from the mansion when she had already fallen asleep.
He rested his free hand against the window and used his knuckles to support his chin as he stared outside at the streetlights and closed shops.
Meanwhile, Ryder, who was driving the car, and Dexter, who sat in the passenger seat, were surprised by what they were seeing. They peered at the Alpha and his mate through the rearview mirror, and Dexter mind-linked Ryder out of curiosity.
[Are you seeing what I'm seeing, Ryder?]
[Yes, so mind your business and stop staring at them.]
[What? This is a rare sight to see. Besides, aren't you also staring? I think you should focus on the road before you cause an accident.]
Dexter said, and Ryder rolled his eyes.
[I'm focused on the road. You're the one staring at them like an idiot.]
[But do you think he's changing? Do you think he wants to start treating her nicely, just like I told him?]
[I don't know, and I also don't know where you got the guts to tell him that, but I just hope he's changing.]
Dexter was about to say something when they both heard Muna whimper in her sleep in a teary voice.
“Mommy, Daddy... Don't go. Please don't leave me. I beg you...”
Jayden, who had been busy staring outside the window, froze when he heard what Muna said in her sleep.
He turned to look at her and saw tears streaming down her cheeks.
He didn't understand what was happening.
Why was she crying for her parents as though they were dying when they were perfectly fine at home with her brother?
But the next words he heard from her surprised him.
“Mommy, Daddy, please don't close your eyes. Don't leave us. Who will take care of us when you're gone?”
Were her parents dead?
Did that mean she and her brother had been living with their uncle and aunt before he had taken her away?
He suddenly felt bad for maltreating her all this while, especially if she was an orphan. That also explained why she was human, because her parents had been humans.
But her brother was a vampire. Or was he her cousin?
Jayden was brought out of his thoughts when he heard her sniffle. He looked at her and didn't know what to do, as he hadn't been in such a situation before.
Klara had never cried in front of him because she always wanted to appear like a strong woman so he would make her his Luna.
He had never comforted anyone before. In fact, he didn't think he would ever comfort anyone in his life.
He continued staring at his mate cluelessly, not knowing what to do.
[Why don't you tell him to pat her head or something?] Dexter said to Ryder through the mind link.
[Are you crazy? Why don't you tell him yourself?] Ryder fired back.
[Well, you're the Beta. He'll listen to you.]
[And you're the Gamma. He'll listen to you too.]
[But she's... ]
[Just shut up, Dex, and let him do whatever he wants to do with her.]
Ryder said and cut off the mind link before Dexter could say anything else.
After staring at her for a while, Jayden finally raised his hand and was about to tuck the hair covering her face behind her ear, but his hand stopped just an inch away from her face.
He stared at the hand that had maltreated her for the past few days, and he didn't feel like touching her with it.
“Mom... Dad... I love you. Please don't leave us. Please don't leave us alone...”
He heard her speak again. She sniffled, and the next moment, he felt her wrap her hands around his arm as her tears soaked his shirt.
He froze.
Did she know what she was doing right now?
He knew that if she woke up and saw their position, she would shriek and move away from him at lightning speed, but thankfully, she was asleep.
He finally moved his hand towards her face, tucked her hair behind her ear, and gently caressed her cheek.
It was something he had never done in his entire life.
His Beta and Gamma's jaws dropped to the floor in shock when they saw what he had just done.
Did he just caress her cheek, or were they seeing things?
Was this really happening before their eyes?
Dexter tried to mind-link Ryder, but the Beta had already blocked his mind.
Even Jayden wasn't aware of what he was doing at that moment as he gently caressed her cheek and whispered soft words into her ears.
“It's okay. Don't cry,” he said, surprising himself.
He finally came back to his senses, and he didn't know where the words he had just spoken to her had come from.
What was he doing?
What was happening to him?
What was this girl doing to him?
He hadn't been able to stop thinking about her for some days now, and now he was suddenly caressing her cheek.
Her cheeks were surprisingly soft, and the spark he felt when he touched them made everything even more confusing.
This was actually the first time he had touched her gently and spoken to her calmly and nicely.
He had never spoken to anyone like that before, not even Klara or his Beta and Gamma.
Jayden immediately withdrew his hand and watched her lean against his body as her hold on his arm tightened.
Her body pressed against his, and he could feel her softness. His breath hitched.
Muna stopped crying, but she continued leaning against him throughout the journey.
Jayden tried his best to remain still so she wouldn't wake up and find herself leaning against him. He didn't want to speak harshly to her again.
Aside from that, the mate bond was taking a toll on him, and it was becoming unbearable for him not to mark her.
He could only mark her if he was in love with her, but he wasn't in love with her.
Or was he falling for her?
No! It wasn't possible.
He couldn't fall for her. He only had her by his side because of the mate bond, but now he couldn't understand what was going on with him.
He should have just left her back at the mansion, but instead, he had brought her along to visit his brother's pack house.
He raised his head and looked into the rearview mirror. He saw both his Beta and Gamma staring at him, but they quickly averted their eyes.

Five black SUVs parked in front of a huge black metal gate.
One of the SUVs was being driven by Ryder, with the Alpha, his mate, and his Gamma seated inside, while the other SUVs contained the warriors.
Two werewolf warriors guarding the huge gate walked towards the car in front to inspect who it was.
Ryder wound down the window and came face-to-face with one of the warriors, who had a serious expression on his face.
“I'm sure your Alpha has already informed you guys that his brother is visiting tonight, and you wouldn't want to keep him waiting,” he said.
The warrior nodded.
He wouldn't dare do that if he still valued his life.
He knew how short-tempered their Alpha's twin brother was, and he didn't want to anger him upon his arrival at the pack house.
The warrior ordered the other warrior standing by the gate to open it, and not a minute later, the huge gates began sliding to the sides.
“Thank you,” Ryder said as he drove into the residence, with the other cars following suit.
After all the cars had been parked in the garage, Jayden's warriors, Beta, and Gamma waited for him to come out of the car with his mate before they headed towards the entrance.
But the sight that greeted them shocked them to their bones.
Jayden stepped out of the car with his mate in his arms. He used his leg to close the car door.
The sight of him carrying his mate in his arms was something Ryder, Dexter, and the warriors never expected to see in their entire lives.
They could only stare at their Alpha in disbelief.
