Not So Grand Proposal

When I asked Allic what I'm supposed to do, Allic looks at me with a shy smirk on his face and a bittersweet tone to his voice and says, "Marry Me". 

"Marry you!" I screech! 

I'm not sure whether to be shocked or flattered. I guess you can say I'm shocked because I'm a mermaid and he's a merman and he accepts me for being a mermaid but this is all kind of his fault for bringing me here. I'm also shocked that he all of a sudden wants to marry me and we hardly know each other. I mean his is dreamy. But he doesn't even know me. I could be a major b***h behind closed doors. I'm not, but he doesn't know that. After everything is said and done we might grow to strongly dislike each other. I'm very flattered though that not knowing me very long he likes me enough that he's willing to spend the rest of his life with me. I would be good to him. I'd be a loving wife. I've always wanted children. I wonder if he feels the same way? 

As I sit here pondering through my thoughts I'm suddenly cut off from my thoughts when Allic speaks. "Aniey? Are you ok?" He asks. I then look at him with the utmost sincerity and reply with a short and simple,"Not really." 

I go on to explain to Allic what's on my mind. I start out by asking him what I'm supposed to do with this tail and how I can't walk now and how I'm worried that I won't be able to see my parents. I also explain how I'm going to miss my friends. When I mention that I break out in tears. "I'm scared Allic." I cry out. He holds me. 

Allic reassures me that every will be alright. He then goes on to tell me some cool information about being a mermaid. He tells me about how fast we can swim and how some mermaids have special abilities. Allic also mentions that certain meraids scales are different colors due to different climates and locations. In some rare cases though their scales will be different colors do to certain special abilities. Allics tail is a beautiful metallic blue. Mine is more of a bright violet. Did I mention this amazingly cool thing about us being able to breathe underwater. We can also see super clearly while underwater as well. All this information is so cool. It's so different becoming a part of a world that you didn't even know exists. 

As we talk about things a little more I began to calm down a little more. Then Allic asks me if I'd like to go for a swim. Like underwater? "Precisely." Allic replies. He then takes my hand as he leads me into the underwater cave deeper into the ocean. It's amazing how bright the moon is. It lights up the water. You can see everything. From the colorful clown fish to the bright corals and anemones on the ocean floor. I can see a little brown octopus hiding under the edge of a rock. He must be in search of some food. Probably waiting on a fish or a crab to swim by. I see a big group of colorful sea stars and urchins near some red and pink corlas. I swim down to take a closer look and see some small sanddollars along with a few crabs. I see a small seaweed forest that's full of life. Allic and I both point at a bunch of seahorses in awe. The ocean is so magnificent. I can't believe I'm lucky enough to be a part of this world. If it weren't for my family and friends I don't think that I'd ever go back to land. I feel at home right here. 

Allic and I hadn't talked since we first dove down into the water. All of a sudden I hear Allic talking plain as day. "Isn't this all so beautiful?",he says. He then mentions that he forgot to tell me that we could talk. It's sort of like a mind link. I think is all is so cool. I am enjoying learning all of these new things. 

Apparently tonight was my first official change. The change at eighteen signifies a sort of coming of age thing. It's basically transitioning into an adult mermaid. Some of the mer-people live their entire lives in the water from birth but on their eighteenth birthday they must go on land and turn into a human and on the night of the first full moon after their eighteenth birthday they must go through a change. Their scales become brighter in color and that's when the females transition into actually being able to become fertile for procreation. 

Since I am now officially an adult I may come and go from land and water as I please. I was so worried about not being able to go back on land. I thought that I was stuck like this forever. That's a little bit of a relief. 

As we turn around and make our way back to the cave Allic and I talk about how I'm a mermaid and how my parents are as well. 

"But how do you know my parents are mer-people?", I ask Allic.
