Chapter 7

/Jane's pov/ As I let myself into Maddy’s office, she looked up and smiled, but it was tight and wary. Everyone seemed to be having difficulty figuring out how to act in my presence at the time. "You're going to enjoy this one, Jane, he's so gorgeous!" she said, lifting an eyebrow in anticipation. In the back of my throat, I made a scoffing sound and scowled. I folded my arms across my chest as I said something disgusting. Her statement was both rude and unwanted, and she should have known better. It didn't matter what he looked like; all that mattered was that I didn't want another guard in my life. It was just a matter of time until they came in, disrupted my life, and then abandoned me after a few months when they realized that I wasn't even worth guarding anymore. When she waved her hand in front of the door to my father's office, signaling that I should enter, I forced the door open and walked in. The crowd became silent almost instantaneously, and my attention was drawn to the stranger who stood in the middle of the room. My pupils dilated as my eyes widened in surprise. Maddy was correct in stating that he was undoubtedly attractive. Despite the fact that his black hair was shorter around the sides, it fell across his forehead in a haphazard manner, he had the most stunning dark green eyes I'd ever seen, and he wore glasses. His features were flawless, like if he were an angel. His figure would be great as well – I could tell that even though he was dressed in a basic, white T-shirt and tattered trousers, I could tell that. This young man appeared to have been plucked straight from the pages of a glossy magazine, and he was without a doubt the most attractive young man I'd ever seen. I absorbed it all in in a split second before my gaze returned to his. I was stunned. The way his eyes roved over me, his lips slightly wide as he took in every inch of my body, made me want to squirm on the spot or sprint away as fast as my legs would take me, I was tempted to do both. It made my stomach hurt to see his heavenly features etched with want in such an obvious manner. I maintained a neutral appearance and swiftly shifted my gaze away from my father, who was looking at me with narrowed pupils. The look on his face indicated that he was uneasy following our little quarrel that had occurred in my bedroom this morning when he informed me of the new security arrangement. "So, is this the man in question?" "Can you tell me about your new close guard boyfriend?" I inquired, adding the final word fiercely. He smiled and nodded. "Yes, Jane, that's correct. Agent Weller "This is my daughter, Jane Spencer," my father said. The lovely stranger reached out with his right hand and touched my cheek. "Good day, Miss Spencer," my name is Kurt. "It's a pleasure to finally meet you."I felt a little tremble in my stomach, but I tried not to show it. I was embarrassed to admit that I was terrified in front of others. My gaze was drawn down to his outstretched hand, and my pulse began to beat faster at the prospect of him touching my shoulder. When I received physical attention, particularly from males I didn't know, my lungs constricted and my body became frigid. It has been like this since John. I raised my eyes to the agent's face once again. He was looking at me with a kind smile and warm eyes. I forced down the panic and extended my hand to shake his, attempting to appear confident, but I could tell I was shaking as I shook his hand for a brief moment. His gaze never strayed from mine, which helped me to feel a little more at ease despite the fact that a man I didn't know was caressing me. In response to dropping his hand, I took a step back and folded my arms over my chest. My mother was watching me with wide eyes, as if she were anticipating what I would do next. I dragged my gaze over him from his head to his toes, raising my chin as I pretended to have a confident smile on my face. "Well, Kurt, you don't appear to be one of the typical individuals I'm assigned to work with. In the spirit of generosity, I'm going to predict that you'll survive a week, maybe even ten days, before asking to be transferred," I joked cockily. As he shook his head, he raised one side of his big lips up to his mouth. "Actually, Miss Spencer, I've been here for eight months, and I'm not planning on leaving," he said firmly, folding his arms across his chest in the same manner that I did. He made one of my eyebrows raise in response to his arrogance, but I battled furiously not to respond in any way to him. "You can refer to me as Jane." I shook my head dismissively, completely dismissing his demeanor. "It's Jane, then," His response was beautiful, and his entire face appeared to be illuminated by it. My mother clearly swallowed and cleared her throat. "Why don't you take Agent Weller to his room, Jane?" Perhaps you could also take him on a tour of the house and grounds. "Tell him where the lake is," she said. That drew a sigh from me. They had always expected me to get along with the agents in question. I couldn't figure out why they were there since they never stayed long and then the same pattern would start all over again with no explanation. "I'll take him to his room, but he's a big guy, and I'm confident he'll be able to locate the lake on his own." Because, I mean, you can't possibly miss the dang thing; it's there in front of you." I turned and marched out of the room, completely ignoring Kurt, who was chatting pleasantries with my parents in the background. As I walked along the corridor, the sound of quick footfall could be heard as he raced to catch up with me. "Thank you for your patience," he said sarcastically after a while. I looked at him with a frown on my face. To be completely honest, I was a little taken aback by his attitude. Normally, the guards would all say, 'Yes, Miss Spencer,' without hesitation. 'No, Miss Spencer,' I say. Clearly, this individual possessed courage. "It doesn't matter, lovely boy. Is it okay with you if I show you to your room or not? I lost my cool. Even though my body was still hurting, I felt like I needed to snooze before supper. "Sure, it would be fantastic." His arm slid around my shoulder and out of my reach. It appeared as though my heart had stopped before my body reacted in an instant. I dodged under his arm and smacked him in the chest with both hands, shoving him as hard as I possibly could. The fact that I had taken him completely by surprise caused him to take a step back and gaze at me with wide, scared eyes. The corners of my mouth pinched together as I drew my right arm back, aiming a punch in the approximate area of his face. I couldn't catch up with him because he was too quick and flung his arm up to deflect my hit before innocently raising both hands. "Please accept my apologies! "I shouldn't have done that, and I'm sorry," he said, shaking his head hurriedly in apology. My eyes welled up with tears as my body shook from the impact of what had happened. I couldn't stand the thought of being the center of attention anymore. It brought up much too many memories for me to bear, and I was barely able to cope with them. "That's it, you're out of here," I muttered, whirling on my heel, as I prepared to march back to my father's office and demand that he be moved to another position. "Oh s**t, come on, please don't be ridiculous. I guarantee you that will never happen again; I simply lost who I was, and that's all. Please? "I'm desperate for this job." As I marched down the corridor, I asked for forgiveness. The imploring tone in his voice seemed to touch a chord within me, and I came to a halt, gritting my teeth and pondering the situation. I swallowed the knot that had developed in the back of my throat and turned to look him in the eyes. I could tell he was remorseful merely by the way his shoulders were stooped. "You're an ass**le," I said, spitting hate at him. These gentlemen had no clue how much power they wielded over me, or how much even a casual touch could have an impact on me for several days thereafter. He nodded, his hands innocently raised in the air. "Don't come near me ever again." "You're already dangling by a thread," I said, shaking my head violently at the prospect. I had no idea why I had decided to give him another opportunity at life. Normally, I would have stormed into my father's office and asked that they remove him from the premises, but the sadness in his eyes told me that it was an innocent mistake that wouldn't happen again anytime soon, so I didn't say anything. I continued the tour when he nodded his head in agreement. We passed through a series of doors in the corridor, and I told him the names of the rooms but didn't allow him a chance to peek inside. He was on his own; I owed him nothing and he was free to go wherever he wanted. “Kitchen. It's time to eat. There is a games room. Lounge. Den. "Down there," I answered, indicating my favorite section of the entire home. "The gym," I added. "Wait, you have your own gym? Can I have a look at it?" he inquired, his voice full of excitement I took a chance and gave him a sideways glance. This young man was beaming with delight; he had clearly enjoyed exercising, as seen by his well-toned figure. "Sure, go ahead and do it." I waved him into the gym with a friendly grin. Immediately upon his disappearance, I terminated my tour and walked up to my room, slamming the door in my face as I entered. I sank to my knees on the bed, a heavy sigh filling the room. He'd been here for eight months, according to what I'd been informed. He wouldn't be able to endure more than a month, at the very most. My bedroom door was knocked on after approximately half an hour, and I opened it. Grabbing my drawing pad and squeezing it under my pillow, I moaned at the interruption. "Can you tell me what you want?" I dialed the number since I was not in the mood to socialize any further today. "Do you mind if I come in?" Kurt shot back with a counterattack. Then I forced myself out of bed, a wicked chuckle in my throat since he was plainly upset with me for abandoning him and racing off to do something else. As I walked through the door, his irritated expression met me. In a mocking tone, he remarked, "Yeah, that was amusing." I burst out laughing and c****d my head to the side, completely oblivious to the fact that he was furious with me. His scowl became much more pronounced. "I need to come in and have a look around your room." As I drew my door handle closer to my side, I tightened my grasp on it, thereby preventing his entrance. “What? It's just next door," I mocked, pointing to the door next to mine. "Go pace in your own room," I said, looking towards the door next to mine.
