The following morning, despite the family’s protestations, Chamreun and I headed back to Phnom Penh. We didn’t want to let the trail grow cold, and although we would have to return to the family home in six days, we were determined to use those days to set wheels in motion. Chamreun had insisted I stay with him. He had already visited the villa before the funeral to pack some bags for me, so I already had clothes and toiletries at his.
