CHAPTER THREE

Xander

Working from 8am to 10 pm everyday has become a norm for me now.I'm the third born of the Blackwell family,my two older siblings chose their own path and was disowned by father.

How can you disown your children for choosing their own careers path,not everyone is cut for this business,even though I love the work I'm doing right now,but I would have settled for a small company of my own rather than this big company which comes with big responsibility.

Many people are scared of me and even being in the same place with me terrified them but what can I say,I like it that way.No one to worry me and even my employees are always finding something to do immediately they see me at work.

Nowadays my secretary is behaving in an abnormal way,wearing short skirts and dresses to work.At first I thought she's trying to seduce one of the workers but I was wrong,it was me all along.Right now she's fired,I don't joke with my work so any distraction is exposed of.

Looking for a new secretary is not easy nowadays,the ladies will always be flirting with me and the boys too are not to my standards.I hate it when everything is not in order or organized properly.I want a secretary and I want it fast.

Lewis,my best friend is now my temporary secretary and he's giving me a headache already even though the day hasn't started.Today I have an interview and I hope this one is serious and won't spoil my mood for today.

I don't know what's wrong with Lewis,I've specifically told him I want a male secretary but he's adamant about hiring me a female secretary,something about someone who can melt my stony heart.

A call from the receptionist brought me back to the work at hand,Lewis was fast to answer and was grinning from ear to ear when he finished making the call.I think it's about the new secretary.

"Well the awaited time has finally come and I hope you won't scare this one also because she's your last chance,you scare her away and you'll be stuck with me forever and I mean it"he said cheerfully and walks out

"Me stuck with him forever,he must be joking."

He's the head of the financial department in this company and he is very serious when it comes to work but he sometimes behaves like the devil.He has been my friend from childhood.He's like a brother to me now and there's nothing I can hide from him,I don't know if he can read mind or something.Anyway he is someone I can put my trust in always.

Back to present,I am looking through some files when someone knocked the door.I know it's Lewis but I don't have time for his jokes so I didn't mind him.Some minutes passed before I raised my head,i was surprised when I saw a lady dressed in a black office skirt with wine colored sleeveless shirts tucked in,her dressing and everything about her shows her professionalism.

She was looking around so I chose that moment to admire her.She's very pretty and you can see the innocence in her.I then know immediately that she's here for a job and not to seduce or flirt with me like the others .I was looking at her when she turned around to face me,she was startled to see me looking at her but she composed herself quickly.

"What are you doing here."

"Who gave you permission to enter"I asked her

"Your assistant let me in, my name is Aurelia Jackson,I'm here for the interview"She said in one breath smiling.

I watched her for sometime before pointing to the couch for her to sit.

"Ah yes I was looking for a secretary since the last one is on leave"

I watched as her eyes bulged out in surprise,I know she's here for the assistant interview and not for the secretary interview.

"Please I'm here for the assistant interview I think you're mistaken"She told me

"Are you sure you want this job" I asked and smirked

"Yes sir"She replied confidently

I like how confident she is so I decided to employ her after all I don't have a choice right now.Lewis is good at what he does but I don't want to burden him and I don't want to see his annoying face every morning again.

"Okay you are hired,you'll start work tomorrow 7:30am sharp and please don't disappoint me "I told her

She was surprised for a moment and who wouldn't be,I didn't even look through her files but I know Lewis won't just call anyone for the interview.

"Thank you sir and I promise I won't disappoint you"she said smiling.

I dismissed her and watched as a grinning Lewis led her downstairs.

Some minute passed before Lewis came back.

"Are you that desperate to replace me"he complain

"Can't complain Lewis,we all know your work keeps pilling up and I'm not that selfish to hold you back.

Honestly I like how you are doing this to help but I'm sorry your service is not needed anymore and please close the door on your way out,thank you"I told him

"Wow,just wow....I'm even speechless,are you seriously telling me to leave you office right now or I'm dreaming because.....wow"he said with fake astonishment

"I don't have all day Lewis and no you are not dreaming,I'm telling you to leave my office because you are distracting me please"I smirked

"You've hurt my poor heart so bad beyond repair,how..........how can you treat me this way after all that we've been through together,how can you cast me aside,your one and only and choose a stranger over me"he faked cried

I ignored him and continued my work but I know he's not done yet with his dramatic cries.

"Oh my,poor me,what were you really expecting from this stony hearted man,you knew from the beginning that he will treat you this way after he has gotten what he wants from you"he wailed and blew he nose

But I know better so I didn't even raise my head from the work I was doing.That's how it always happens when I told him stop doing something for me without a bribe.

"Alright don't worry,tell me what you want and stop this your dramatic way of asking me for bribes,I thought I paid you enough"I mumbled

"Please there's a difference between bribing and salary please,now that you are talking,I want a small favor from you"he said

"And what is that?"but I think I know what he is coming to say

"Please find yourself a wife this year please,..I want to see my babies before I die"

"And can't you have your own wife and babies,why do you always ask for things you know you won't get"I asked him

"Don't worry dear brother,soon......very soon"was all he said

We talked a little more before he went back to work.By the time I called it a day,most of the work has been done.Today is Thursday so I don't know why I told the new secretary to start working tomorrow instead of Monday,well it has been done already,so gathering my needed files I took the elevator in my office straight to the garage.

Yes I have an elevator that lead me straight to the garage but a few people know about it and few people is myself and Lewis. I like taking the regular one to avoid suspicion but when I close late,I always take the one inside my office.

Walking to my car,I saw a sleeping Lewis at the passenger seat snoring lightly,how he got in is a mystery because I clearly remember locking the doors before meeting him this morning.

Without waking him,I drove off into the night.
