6. Beta Lucas

Beta Lucas POV The battle was starting, Aroura was standing to my left. I could feel her determination. She was beautiful, powerful, everything I want in my mate. There were a lot of pack members questioning her lately because she hadn’t found or chosen her mate yet. They were waiting for an Alpha. But we wouldn’t need one, she is enough. She has to realize that as well. When she sees that she didn’t need an Alpha by her side, so would her pack. I could feel other unmated werewolves wanting her as their mate. I was becoming jealous; Garret was one of them. He had the most respect for her, but I could see his longing in his eyes every time she spoke. I doubt she sees it, or is it just my jealousness speaking? I know she is not intimate with anyone other than me, but still. She didn’t give herself completely, I couldn’t blame her. I understood why. I needed to focus, without me drooling over her, she would feel it and that would distract her. She had to be in this moment. This defining moment. If we lost, she would lose her pack, her life. I would lose her. Beta David attacked first; she was so fast. The rest of the warriors started attacking, it all happened in a few seconds. I heard her whisper something, but I couldn’t make out what it was. I couldn’t hear David’s heartbeat anymore. I could see they wanted to kill her but also feared her. She took out their Beta without a drop of sweat. I didn’t want to lose sight of Aurora; we were outnumbered but way more skilled. Our least skilled warrior was Riley. One of Jackson’s men lunged toward me, he jumped in the air, and he saw the smirk that formed on my face. He shifted and hoped I would do the same. I wasn’t planning on to, my wolf Axel desperately wanted to play. “No Axel only if we can’t otherwise.” Axel let out a small growl in my head. I let the wolf jump on me. I could smell his skin burn as he touched my gear. My smirk didn’t leave my face. I could see the surprise in his eyes, he wasn’t paying attention anymore. He just wanted to get off me. I held him close. Let him get weaker from the silver. I needed to know what the gear would exactly do. I felt his wolf weaken. He tried to s***h his claws in my side, but he couldn’t. “Nice,” I said with a smile. I sliced my claws into his side and by that, we rolled over. I took his head and snapped his neck. I felt strong. How is this possible? I only feel stronger. I turned around and saw Aurora covered in blood, a smirk forming on her face. “Mine,” Axel growled. Two wolves tried to jump me. One sliced my side, only he didn’t touch my skin. It didn’t hurt me, only him. I jumped on the other one and held him close, just before the first wolf could get me off his friend, I bit his neck and ripped through his shoulder. He was losing a lot of blood. I glanced over at the two wolves. They didn’t attack me again. They were hovering. Everyone around us was fighting. But they didn’t want this. Our pack did, but not Jackson’s. Dead wolves surrounded us, Garret took out a few, even Riley. I jumped toward the wolves in front of me when suddenly they kneeled. I stopped just before my claws ripped his throat out. I took a step back and saw Jackson kneeling before Aurora. It was over. We won. It was a swift battle. But if it took any longer Jackson’s warriors would all be dead. There were already so many wounded and killed. Aurora said that we had to do whatever it takes, but if there’s an opening to leave our opponents a life we should. She didn’t want this to be a m******e. But it did look like it. All remaining alive pack members of Jackson’s acknowledged Aurora as their new Luna. It was beautiful to see and feel. I think we could all feel our pack expanding. “She lets Jackson live?” Axel asked. I could see the surprise on a few. “Aurora isn’t cruel, her intentions are always honorable,” I replied to Axel. We all went back to our homes. It was time for celebrations. I already mind linked to Sarah to get the bonfire started and to put out some food. She was happy to hear that we were all right. Some did have some injuries, but it was nothing a couple of hours wouldn’t heal. Some had to shift. But all who had the same gear as me and Aurora stayed in human form. They must have felt the same, stronger. Axel and I were in sync with each other in the battle even more than normal, I wondered if it had something to do with the suits. The elders made it, so they must have put some mojo in it. When we arrived at the packhouse, Aurora explained what she did to the Beta. It was genius what she did. I felt proud and all I wanted to do was pull her close and kiss her. But we weren’t alone, not yet. Garret started lingering around. I knew what he felt for her. I wanted him to leave, but that is up to Aurora. When we went inside, she told Garret to go home and get cleaned up and that we would see him at the bonfire. I could see his disappointment. He wanted to be closer to her. He didn’t want to leave her side. He wasn’t so out in the open as me with my affection toward Aurora. Like he was waiting for it to implode by itself. “That’s not happening,” Axel stirred in my mind by the thought of losing Aurora. “You are not going to lose me,” Aurora told me with a smile. Even with all that blood on her face, I could see the love behind it. “I don’t know if you noticed but I can handle myself.” “I know,” I told her with a smile. I put my hands on her waist wanting to pull her closer. She took my hand and brought them up to her face and kissed them, “we need to shower.” “Together?” I c****d my eyebrow at her. “Hmm maybe, but I think it’s better if we not right now,” she didn’t mean to hurt me, but I knew she wanted a second alone. To comprehend what just happened. But I also wanted to be with her completely. If only she let me. Let me take care of her. I never want to be from her side. I hoped we would never find our mates, so we could be together. I was already finished with my shower, so I walked over to Aurora’s bathroom. I could still hear her showering. Instead of going inside and being with her, I went outside, toward the bonfire. It was in the backyard of the packhouse. Everyone that fought was there and so many more. There was a lot of food going around and liquor. You have to drink quite a lot if you want to get buzzed being a werewolf. The pack felt different, more balanced somehow. There weren’t any more whispers of disrespect towards Aurora. Garret and Riley were already here. I could feel Garret was waiting for Aurora, he kept eying the door. This was the first time I saw Riley more confident. Riley was only seventeen years old. She would turn eighteen soon and would be able to find her mate. I wondered who she is mated to. I started walking around, trying to pass the time a bit. I took some shots with some of the warriors. It’s been a long time since the pack felt like this. I could smell her immediately when she came outside, I turned to look at her. I felt Axel pressing forward. “Mine,” he said with a purr. She lighted up the place with her presence. Everyone stood up and bared their neck in respect towards their Luna. She had her hair loose; it was such beautiful long light blond hair. She always kept it in a bun or high ponytail. It made her look more serious. Beautiful long legs, she was just stunning. It took every bit of restraint to not grab her right here, right now. “She is gorgeous, isn’t she?” I hadn’t even noticed that Riley moved beside me. “I have never seen her like this, she is always so—Serious. Not in a bad way but I don’t know.” “I know,” I chuckled. I drank my glass empty, wanting to approach her. When she sat down next to the bonfire. I stopped, and I saw her enjoy herself. Talking with everyone, not as their Luna, but as a friend. I saw Gideon walking toward her. He was angry, eyes darkened. He let his wolf forward. I wanted to stop him as he started blaring at Aurora. Garret stopped me by grabbing my shoulder. “This is something she has to do. I want to rip his throat out as well.” I relaxed my shoulders. He was right. She has to put him in his place. I watched as this played out. Gideon was way over his head. I chuckled. “It’s not like she needs our help to put his ass on the ground,” I said to Garret.
