Nightmares.
The thick, suffocating air enveloped the room as Alex gasped for precious air. Her heart pounded in her chest, matching the fear that pulsed through her veins. She felt her grip weakening, her frail hands failing her as they desperately tried to pry off the suffocating grasp around her neck. Panic shot through her body, consuming her every thought and movement. In that heart-stopping moment, she realized her life was hanging. Alex's worst nightmare incarnate, a nightmare she could never fathom becoming a reality. The man before her, Alex's brother in-law, had transformed into a monster worthy of her deepest fears. His eyes, once filled with love and tenderness, now glowed with a twisted hunger. His voice now scratched hoarsely against her ears, sending shivers of terror down her spine. "If I can't have you, no one else will," he whispered, his words laced with a venomous possessiveness that sent a wave of horror crashing over her fragile frame. The weight of his words settled heavily upon her battered soul, suffocating any remaining hope she clenched onto. Stifled sobs escaped from Alex's quivering lips, washing away fragments of her voice. Tears, both born from pain and desperation, cascaded down her vulnerable cheeks like a never-ending waterfall. Her pleas for mercy became mere whispers in the dark, drowned out by her abuser's malevolence. But just as darkness threatened to claim Alex's last breath, a distant voice pierced through the haze of her torment. It called out her name, echoing against the walls of the confined space. "Alex!" the voice insisted, urging her to hold onto the flickering light of survival. Jim Tucker Carlson, a man whose presence held a complicated mixture of admiration and unease, filled the room with his commanding presence. Reluctantly, he loosened his grip on her neck, allowing Alex a fleeting taste of relief. His eyes met hers, a mixture of worry and doubt clouding his mind, before he finally turned and walked away. Left alone, Alex crumpled to the ground, her body wracked with violent coughs as her hands instinctively stroked her tender neck, searching for a sense of comfort amidst the chaos. Yet, just as she regained her footing and prepared to flee the twisted nightmare that had become her reality, a familiar shadow loomed above her. It was her husband – Tom, who vowed to protect and cherish her, but now stood as an embodiment of betrayal and heartache. His polished black hair, meticulously combed back, framed his handsome face, highlighting the dangerous allure hidden beneath his charismatic exterior. His brown suit clung to his chiseled physique, a stark reminder of the strength that once captivated her fragile heart. But it was his piercing black eyes that hurt her soul. It spoke of a time when their love was untainted, when the thought of her name on his lips held a profound meaning. Oh, how Alex longed to go back to those golden moments, when their hearts were one. Alex choked on the tears that threatened to spill, her heart tormented by the disparity between who her husband was and who he had become. His voice, once a lullaby that intertwined with her dreams, now twisted into a monstrous growl of dominance. Doubts clawed viciously at her mind, uncertainty biting at her fragile confidence. In that desperate moment, Alex yearned to be his best friend once again – to be the person he shared his deepest secrets with, the one who brought laughter and joy into his world. But as she stood there, teetering between what was and what could have been, she realized it was all a dream. He never loved her neither did his countenance ever speak politely towards her. Their marriage was just mere formalities between their parents who desperately wanted them together . "are you ok" Tom asked. For a moment, Alex was shocked 'is he really interested in knowing how I feel?' she thought. A ray of hope peeking through the curtains of her life. "I'm...I'm..." Alex struggling to get the words out of her mouth . "If you're sick, I'd be sick and I can't have that." he said as he walked past her. what seemed like a dead hope was now breathing. The nightmare had stolen her husband, replacing him with a man immersed in darkness. With a hope now awakened, Alex vowed to fight for her marriage.
