Chapter four

1089 Words
You are so wicked Ruby''. Amelia said, her voice low but filled with pain. Ruby had used all soothing measures he knew of to calm Amelia down and to further avoid public embarrassment after she discovered he was the wicked ex-boyfriend that abandoned her years back. He gently begged her to return to the restaurant to have a talk which Amelia reluctantly agreed after a gentle man had intervened. Ruby ordered her old favorite drink but Amelia had refused to take it instead she was busy pouring out her heavy heart to Ruby. "You are the most terrible human being I have ever met in my life". She said again, her eyes teary. "You deceived me, you claimed you loved me but you fled when I got pregnant". A sad smile displayed on her lips. "I texted you that I gave birth to twins for you but you don't even care to text back or look for us". She said again, her voice breaking as tears flowed freely down her eyes. "I'm sorry". Ruby said, his voice low but pleading. "Sorry". Amelia scoffed. "You were sorry and you never came back to me". She said as she wiped her tears with the back of her palm. "Don't even try playing sympathy now, where were you when I was pregnant and scared, Ruby I was so young and ignorant when you got me pregnant, I need a supportive and caring man but you were nowhere to be found". She said again as Ruby watched as she wiped her tears, guilt taking over him. "If not for my mother, her blessed memory." She said, her voice breaking as a tear rolled down her cheek. "I would have ended up a very different person now. The road to motherhood was not an easy one for me as a young naive girl that I was. I went through so much to bring those children into the world." "I never expect to see you again in my whole life". She continued. "I already explained to my daughter that she has no father because I didn't expect you to go without looking back even after telling you I gave birth". She said, her voice cracking from tears, her eyes had already become red. "I deserve any punishment you could give me". Ruby said, his voice gentle but pleading. "I know I'm guilty but please, because of our twins, forgive me". Ruby said, his voice cracking. "Our twins". Amelia laughed out loud causing some surrounding customers to stare at them with a questioning look. "I'm so sorry". She said to them, waving her hands with her face flushed with embarrassment. "Maybe if you are a responsible father to them, I would not have lost one". She said as tears streamed down her cheeks. Ruby watched her speechless, not knowing what to say. "I'm so sorry, how doesn't it happen". He asked, his voice full of guilt. "So you care now". Amelia said with a stern look on her face. I don't owe you any explanation". She said again, Ruby bowed his head in embarrassment. "Like I said earlier, I have a meeting to attend with a business partner who shares a name with my wicked ex-boyfriend". She said laughing bitterly as she stood up to leave. Before Ruby could say anything, Amelia had walked out of the restaurant. He stood up to chase her but she already started her car when he would get out of the restaurant. He felt helpless and broken. He wondered what would happen if Amelia found out that the business partner she was going to meet was the ex-boyfriend she had walked out on. He dragged himself to the car, feeling the weight of the situation pressing down on him. He sat behind the wheel for what felt like an eternity, struggling to decide what to do next. Finally, he put the key in the ignition and turned the engine over. He drove to the company, moving slowly through the streets, dreading the moment he would have to face Amelia. The hardest part of the situation for him was the fact that Amelia being her ex girlfriend would make it difficult for him to buy the share of the company as Amelia would not want to sell her share to him. He felt bad and for the first time, he realized he was wrong for not accepting the pregnancy and taking responsibility and now he was paying the price in the way he never dreamt of. The thought of working with Amelia as his business partner made him feel sick to his stomach. Even though Amelia would make a great partner because she is a brilliant woman, the fact that she clearly hated him would make the matter worse. The thought of having to interact with her on a regular basis, knowing that she despised him, was almost too much to bear. He couldn't imagine having to work with her, knowing that as a smart woman that she was, she would make his life in the company a living hell. With a heavy heart, he drove into the company's compound, ignoring the greetings from the gate man. He was too sad and bothered to reply to his greetings. He parked his car in the Company parking lot absentmindedly and walked slowly inside the company. "Welcome sir". The receptionist greeted him but he barely heard her. "Miss Amelia Williams is around waiting for you sir". She said again and his heart skipped a beat, anxiety taking over him but he tried to maintain his composure. "Where is she?" he asked, his voice thick. "She's in her office, sir," the receptionist replied. He nodded and slowly made his way down to his office, feeling as though he was walking to his doom. The two offices were next to each other, and he prayed he wouldn't run into her on the way. His heart ached as he approached his office, it ached more when he heard her voice talking to someone over the phone. He quickened his steps desperate to enter his office and calm down. Just as he sank into his chair, the door to his office creaked open without warning. His heart leaped into his throat as he turned to see the very person he had been dreading, Amelia. His pulse raced and he felt like the air had been sucked out of the room, and he struggled to breathe. Amelia's mouth dropped open as she saw Ruby standing in her front.
