Ella offered a courteous smile to the two girls at the counter.
She took great pleasure in managing the cash register. As someone who thrived on gossip, she relished the opportunity to engage in light conversation with customers or to eavesdrop on their discussions. Today, while I was busy wiping down the counter and taking orders, I was also privy to the various topics being discussed around me.
Once the girls received their orders, the first one turned to her companion and resumed their earlier dialogue. “And they wrapped a tutu around it!”
“What? No way! We must go see it.” Gavin and I exchanged a knowing glance as he walked by.
“Yes way!” she insisted. “It’s the greatest prank ever, I assure you.”
Their laughter lingered in the air as they exited the shop.
