Sunlight filtered through the towering pines as Emma stood alone at the edge of the lake. The water was perfectly still, reflecting the bright blue sky above. It was hard to believe that only two weeks ago she had stumbled through this same forest, frightened, injured, and convinced she would die alone. Now... She couldn't imagine leaving it. She smiled to herself. Funny how quickly life could change. Footsteps approached behind her. "You always find the prettiest places." Emma turned to see Roman walking toward her with two steaming mugs. "You've made tea a habit." Roman handed one to her. "I learned from the best." Emma laughed softly before taking a sip. For a while, neither of them spoke. They simply stood together, watching the morning mist drift across the lake. Finally, Roman broke the silence. "The hunters are gone." Emma looked at him. "You know that for sure?" He nodded. "Kai and I tracked them to the edge of the mountains yesterday." "They packed their camp." "They're gone." A weight Emma hadn't realized she was carrying finally lifted from her shoulders. "It's over." Roman smiled. "Yes." "It's over." --- The cabin was unusually busy when they returned. Finn was cooking enough breakfast for an army. Leo was hanging wildflowers around the windows. Asher was trying to help. Trying. "You've hung that banner upside down." "It looks fine." "It says 'WELCOME' backward." "It's artistic." Kai walked by carrying firewood. "It looks stupid." Asher sighed dramatically. "I receive no appreciation." Emma laughed. "What are you all doing?" Everyone suddenly became very interested in anything except answering her question. Finn stirred the skillet. Leo whistled. Asher examined the backwards banner. Kai stared out the window. Emma folded her arms. "You're planning something." Roman looked almost guilty. "...Maybe." --- After breakfast, Finn gently took Emma's hand. "Come with me." She glanced at the others. "They'll meet us." He led her down a familiar forest path. Not toward the lake. Not toward the herb garden. Toward the Moon Temple. When they stepped into the ancient clearing, Emma stopped in surprise. The stone circle had been decorated with wildflowers. Lanterns hung from nearby branches. Fresh evergreen garlands wrapped around the ancient stones. Roman, Asher, Kai, and Leo were already waiting. All five men wore simple black shirts and dark trousers. They looked nervous. Especially Leo. Emma smiled. "What is all this?" Roman stepped forward. "For centuries..." "The Moon Temple has been where our pack welcomed new members." Emma looked around the clearing. "I don't understand." Finn smiled gently. "You will." --- Roman stopped in front of Emma. "There is something we all need to say." He looked toward the others. Asher spoke first. "When we found you..." "I thought you'd be a funny story." "The human who got lost." He chuckled. "I didn't expect you to become one of the most important people in my life." Emma's eyes began to water. Finn stepped forward. "You reminded me why I became a healer." "You showed me that opening your heart isn't something to fear." Kai took a deep breath. He clearly wasn't used to speaking about his feelings. "I spent years believing humans only brought pain." He met Emma's eyes. "You proved me wrong." "You gave me back something I thought I'd lost forever." "Trust." Emma wiped away a tear. Leo was next. He smiled, though his eyes were already glistening. "I used to think our cabin was lonely." "You filled it with laughter." "You became the big sister I never had..." He paused before laughing nervously. "...Then somehow became someone even more important." The clearing filled with soft laughter. Finally... Roman stepped forward. His golden eyes never left hers. "The day I found you in that ravine..." "I believed I was making the hardest decision of my life." "I thought bringing you here would put my family in danger." He gently took both of her hands. "I was wrong." "You didn't bring danger." "You brought hope." "You reminded all of us what it means to truly live." Emma's tears spilled freely now. Roman smiled warmly. "The Moon Goddess revealed the bond." "But she never demanded anything." "Today..." He took a slow breath. "We're asking." He lowered himself onto one knee. The others did the same. Not out of submission. Out of respect. Roman looked up at Emma. "Emma Carter..." "Our cabin." "Our hearts." "Our lives." "They're yours if you want them." "No prophecy." "No obligation." "No pressure." "Only a choice." "Will you stay?" Emma looked from Roman... To Asher... To Finn... To Kai... To Leo. She saw hope. Fear. Love. Not one of them expected an answer. They were willing to accept whatever she chose. She laughed softly through her tears. "You five really don't make saying no very easy." Asher grinned. "That wasn't the goal." "It definitely was," Kai muttered. "It was a little," Asher admitted. Emma shook her head, smiling. "When I came into these woods..." "I thought I was searching for a photograph." "I had plans." "A career." "A life waiting for me." She paused. "The truth is..." "There wasn't much waiting." She looked around the clearing. "I thought home was a place." She smiled at each of them. "But home..." "...is the people who make you feel like you've finally been found." She squeezed Roman's hands. "I choose you." She looked at Asher. "I choose your laughter." Then Finn. "I choose your kindness." Then Kai. "I choose your strength." Then Leo. "I choose your joy." Finally, she looked back at Roman. "And I choose the family we can build together." "I choose all of you." The clearing fell silent. Then Leo tackled Emma into the biggest hug imaginable. "We're trying to have an emotional moment!" Asher laughed. "I am emotional!" Finn joined the hug. Then Asher. Kai hesitated for exactly three seconds before stepping in. Roman wrapped his arms around all of them. For several minutes, none of them let go. --- As the sun began to set, the six of them stood together in the center of the Moon Temple. Silver light flowed gently around them. Not as bright as before. Not dramatic. Simply peaceful. The silver threads connecting them shimmered softly before fading into a warm glow that settled over each of their hearts. The bond was complete. Not because magic had forced it. Because every heart had freely chosen the others. High above, a gentle breeze carried through the trees. It almost sounded like a woman's quiet laughter. A blessing. The Moon Goddess had nothing more to ask of them. Their future belonged to them now. --- One Year Later The cabin had changed. A second story had been added. Finn's herb garden had doubled in size. Leo had finally learned how to flip pancakes without dropping them. Mostly. Asher still cheated at cards. Kai still claimed he hated everyone. No one believed him anymore. Roman still woke before sunrise to patrol the forest. Only now... Emma often joined him. She had become an incredible wildlife photographer. Instead of publishing the location of the forest, she used her photographs to help raise awareness for conservation, ensuring the mountains remained protected from development and excessive hunting. The little pack had grown stronger than ever. Not because they had become larger. But because they had become whole. One warm summer evening, the six of them sat together on the porch watching the sunset. Emma leaned comfortably against Roman while Leo argued with Asher over another card game. Finn laughed as Kai secretly slipped Leo an extra card just to annoy Asher. Emma smiled. "This..." She looked around at the people she loved. "...is my favorite view." Roman kissed the top of her head. "Mine too." Emma had entered the forest believing she was lost. Instead... She had found the place she was always meant to call home.
