The Secret Marriage

Laiken; Has your life ever been great one moment, to a total diaster then the next... My best friend Courtnee and I are here for a fresh start. Breaking up with my ex boyfriend of one year definitely wasn't my plan to do on a Tuesday afternoon, but that Monday I had a meeting with my boss about how I was no longer fit for the company that i worked at for two and half years. I started out as an intern there, then as the time went on, I worked hard and worked my way up to where I was. But every job has one person who thinks she's better than everyone else. In my case, that's Sydney Rush. She is also a huge suck up to the boss, always flirting with him and what not. Well, she has been there for 4 years, I believe, and she wanted the job I was promoted to when someone decided to leave the company 6 months ago. She wasn't happy about me getting, so she tried everything in her power to make me hate my job but i wasn't giving in. Until, there were things stolen, and it came back to me because my key card was the one being used the most, and it wasn't me using it that many times. Tuesday came along, and my boyfriend was gone. I mean I pushed him, but he really didn't beg to stay either. My brother was furious with me, considering that he was his best friend, so by Wednesday I had no job, no boyfriend, and a brother that wouldn't speak to me. Granted, he wasn't speaking to Mitchell, my now ex boyfriend either. Here we are about 24 days later, traveling and moving our whole life to California. Courtnee and I used all our savings to move out here. I found an apartment for us. Well, with the help of our friends that live out here, together we found an apartment. I ended up finding a job, through one of my friend, Cassie's relatives. I had an interview over zoom and I start my new job on Monday. I don't really know who the boss was though. The lady told me she was filling in and getting new hires in for the new boss, who was also starting Monday. When she asked about my last job, I was scared to tell her the truth, but I am glad I did because, apparently, she already knew about it. Resources from my last job cleared the air up, and I don't know who they are, but I am so grateful for them. "It's so beautiful, I can't believe we are living here," Courtnee squeals in the driver's seat. Courtnee has been my best friend since Preschool, my house was like her second home literally. She was more at our house than her own. Her dad was abusive towards her mom, and her mom didn't care about anything or anyone except her dad. Courtnee stayed at my house a whole 2 weeks once when we were in high school, and the only reason her parents notice she wasn't home after two weeks was because she had not gone to the grocery store in a while. One thing about Courtnee is, though she is the most independent person I know, she won't get help from anyone. "This is it…" I said as I noticed the apartment building from the picture. Court parks in front of the office, so we can go sign our lease and get our keys. After a billion signatures, and the rule book that we had to go over, "Glad we can have you join our Apartment family, here's your keys, you will be in 15D. I can show you to your apartment." I grabbed our keys and headed out the door, and walked into another set of doors. We have a key card to get into these doors, we head up to our floor in the elevator. Once she showed up at our new apartment, she left us to explore our new home. "Wow, I can't believe this place, it's huge," Court said. "I know, I can't believe that we can afford this. Well, I can at least until you find work." Later that night, we ate takeout chinese, because we only had what we could fit in Courtnee's car, until my parents drove the truck out here with all our stuff there. "I want to go out, i want to check out the clubs, maybe find some hottie to play with." "I'm down, but I don't know about the part of finding a hottie, though, I don't think I am ready to move on. It's still fresh." "Get over him, Laiken. He wasn't worth it. I never liked you guys together, he always acted like you were his property and not a girlfriend, he was a jerk. And the worst part was your own brother took his side, let's get let loose and have fun and forget him, including his name." Before I could say anything else, she was on her phone texting one of our friends to find where the best club was in the city. Before I knew it, we were getting dressed, doing our hair and make-up for tonight. After a couple of hours, we were in an Uber, heading to one of the nicest nightclubs in town. She managed to talk me into doing this, and maybe just maybe mingle with some guys. The Uber pulled up to the curb, and we got out, and the line was long, but we spotted our friends, Tuner, his boyfriend, Alex and Cassie in line. They grabbed us and pulled us in line with them. Once we were in, we were searching for our friend, Kelsey and her boyfriend, Kyle. We spotted them in a rounded booth, kissing. "GET A ROOM," Court said loudly enough, so they could hear her. Kelsey screamed when she saw our faces and got out and hugged us, "I can't believe you guys have finally moved out here, I am so happy." We all piled into the booth while the guys went to get us all drinks. As us girls were catching up, Kyle asked Kels to dance, and after they got up, Alex and Tuner joined them. "Girls, let's go find men to dance with." Cassie declares, "You guys go, I don't know if I want to, I am going to refresh on my drink…" "LAIKEN, you said you were going to try and forget about that loser, how are you going to forget about him if you don't go find yourself a dance partner?" "I am going to forget about him, don't worry… I just don't want to dance with a stranger right now, you guys go, go wild!" "Well, we won't go find men, just dance with us then, we don't want you to feel left out," Cassie demands. "Guys, I am fine, I promise. Go have fun. I am going to get a new drink, and maybe I'll meet you out there. They finally get up and head to the dance floor. That is when I head to the bar and order myself a new drink. When I go to hand the bartender my card after she has made my drink, a strong male voice appears beside me. "Add this woman's drink to my tab..."
