Chapter 2

The ceremony hall was decorated beautifully with curtains, and balloons that matched the color of my dress, with this I knew that the day was really for me. Let us rise as we welcome the princess of Omobara Kingdom the daughter of Lord Algon, the son of Molgan. This was the traditional way of welcoming us and also telling the guests who I and my father were in the Omobara Kingdom. Taking a deep breath I walked straight but this time more carefully, only looking at the floor until I reached the throne where my father and mother were sitting. I then bent down to greet them as a sign of respect, I felt my legs tremble but I staggered not to fall again, my mother smiled at me nervously, but my father on the other hand just nodded for me to sit down close to my mother. Looking at my father’s face he was bothered by what he was about to put me through or the fact that he was marrying me off to a prince I had never known before. His only happiness is that his new in-law could join hands with him to fight and win many more territories for himself. My father is a very popular king who has fought and won many battles since he started following his late father to war. He does not by any means accept defeat without planning for revenge, he does not spare the life of his traitors and enemies. He is quick in anger especially when it comes to challenges but would always protect the interest and lives of the people of Omobora kingdom before his own life and that of his family. I smiled back at my mother and then went to my seat. I could feel everybody staring at me, some with pity while others with repulsion as if it was my fault to marry someone I did not know for once. They should blame my parents not me. A moment later, the groom’s presence was informed by one of our guards (Don Joe) my father's most powerful guard. He has been in the palace for many years, he has been in the palace for many years. Don Joe has accompanied my father to many wars and he has always been at the forefront of every war. He is dark in complexion, with a masculine hand and shoulder, he has white splashy teeth with a broad face that could make a baby afraid and cry for help. His voice entices many women to himself but he appears to have no interest in any of them but women keep on flocking around him. The room went quiet as the guests waited for the groom to enter. By this time I was afraid, what if I did not like what I saw, what if the rumors were true? Would he have red eyes and long horns with two sharp pointed teeth? Don’t be ridiculous, I advised myself and decided to sit down tight. Slowly, I looked at the door as my heart hammered inside my chest, and almost gasped when the groom stepped in. Wait!! This was my saving grace whose eyes were shining like the sun of the earth. He could not be the groom, because though he was handsome he was at the same time like a monster, or could he? The surprised guests started whispering into each other’s hearts. They do not expect someone like this, maybe they expected someone with black horns to enter the room and not a tall-looking man. He walked towards my father with confidence. “Your majesty,” he said, bowing. No one bowed slightly to the King, this man was fearless and disrespectful toward my father. Suddenly I started developing bad feelings towards him but was obvious my father didn’t react. He just gestured towards me. He didn’t utter a word. Was he not supposed to greet me or at least tell me his name? I don’t think Father told me his name. I had fought and cried the day that my father told me he was marrying me off to some stranger but no more the tyrant young prince of Wessex. I cried and refused to accept my father’s proposal but my father had already made up his mind. “Today we are gathered to celebrate my daughter's wedding to the prince of Kadax. Father spoke when everyone might have seated. He raised his staff, “let the ceremony begin, and enjoy yourselves,” he concluded. We were entertained by musicians and dancers people all enjoyed themselves. We didn’t have eye contact with my new husband since I was supposed to keep my gaze down because that’s what a lady should do well then, I hate being a lady. Don’t you like the entertainers, he finally asked, breaking the long-time silence. I then peeked through my eyelashes but looked at his eyes. It did not seem to be what I saw initially. They were captivating. I do, my Lord, I replied with a smile. I didn’t want to impress anyone, especially not this man. I was sitting in a chair in the top right corner of the room but even at that everyone's attention was directed at me. I then stood up with my violin playing it on my left with the stick on my right. Soon nervousness disappeared. As I played the violin melodiously closing my eyes I let the sound of the violin take me far away, to a peaceful place. Soon some people started praising me and they applauded when I was done, opening my eyes I found him staring directly at me. He wasn’t applauding but a hint of smile was since on his face. Now it was time to exchange gifts. We exchanged and was time for me to go to my new home. Mother came up to me while father spoke calmly to my husband. My mother’s words sounded strange to me on my head, she took my hands in hers and wept bitterly which made a stream of tears drop down my cheek too. I can sense my mother’s feelings for me as am moving to my new home as her only daughter but she did not have a choice. Especially someone like me who has not once been exposed to this type of life, and now I will be living with someone I did not know till the end of my life. “Everything will be fine”, she said, please remember all that I have told you. I will remember them mummy I replied. To be able to live with your new husband, you must not make him angry, be with him like a lover, a wife, a sister, and like family, she added. “Yes I will”, I said enveloping her in a tight hug. As a princess, I wasn’t supposed to hug people, but as of now I did not care, I might never see her again. The logs were well loaded at the back of the horse we were to use. The prince, or should I say my husband led the way. I looked behind one last time and found Mogana and my other housemaid standing on the balcony, their cheeks wet with tears. I then ran back kissed each of them on their forehead and promised to be visiting them from time to time. “watch your back”, my lady Mogana shouted.
